KMC Chains! Compatibility

KMC derailleur chains are 100% compatible with all major systems. We do not distinguish between disciplines; our chains are suitable for both road and off-road. The way that KMC chains are categorized is logical: e.g. Any product from the X11 series will fit any 11-speed derailleur system and every possible use.

Easy assembly

Nearly every KMC chain is supplied with a connecting link. Assembly of the chain is fast, secure, uncomplicatedâ&#x20AC;¨ and convenient. In order to shorten the chain to the required length, simply use a chain tool. To assemble or disassemble the MissingLink, KMC recommends the use of the Connecting- and Opening tools.

Durability

From many field tests, we can conclude that the KMC chains last longer than their equivalents offered by other brands. Our unique satisfaction warranty on many of our products is a proof of our confidence.

Chain Checker 1. Check chain wear quickly and easily with the KMC Chain Checker, and know exactly when to change your chain. Make sure you change your chain before it has reached the wear-limit, so that wear on sprockets and chain rings is spread evenly.

1) Place the Chain Checker with the curved side into the chain as shown (step 1). 2) Push the measuring gauge down on to the chain, when pressing down and if the straight end (Step 2) does not enter the chain but remains mount on the roller, then your chain has not worn down.

3) In case the straight end enters the chain without any resistance, your chain is worn and must be replaced immediately. Should the gauge enter the chain only after applying some pressure, then the chain is nearly worn, you must then check more regularly and anticipate to replace the chain soon.

Chain de-Riveter When changing your chain, you will normally have to shorten your new chain to the correct length. We advise that you take the old chain and count the number of links, this will tell you how many links your new chain will need. In order to shorten the chain you will need a Chain de-Riveter, KMCâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s chain tool can handle any bicycle chain, should you use another tool, please be sure to check if it can cut 10- and 11-speed chains if necessary.

Put the chain in the chain tool (ill. 1). Put your thumb on top of the chain to demobilize it and turn the spindle until you touch the chain pin. Then check if both pins are well aligned before pushing the chain pin out (ill 2). Be sure that the chain is upright and that you cut the right piece! It should always end with an inner-link (ill. 3). Then you can push out the chain pin completely (ill. 4 and 5).

Never connect the chain with the pin, but always use the original MissingLink connector!

MissingLink Assembly

Shorten the chain as described on page 38. Be sure that the chain ends with an inner link on both sides (iIll. 1). Apply a high viscosity lubricant on the MissingLinkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s pin (ill. 2). As illustrated, put both halves of MissingLink into the chainâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s inner links (ill. 3). Push both halves together by pushing the bolts through the round hole (ill. 4/5). Then push both sides of MissingLink together in order to connect the pins with the plates correctly (ill. 6). Then, while pressing both halves towards each other â&#x20AC;&#x201C; pull the chain apart (ill. 7). Now use the MissingLink Connector tool to connect the MissingLink securely until you notice the engagement between both (ill. 8/9). Check the connection visually and feel if the connection is smooth.

MissingLink Dis-assembly

Use the MissingLink Opening Tool to open the MissingLink (ill. 1). Push the pliers together until MissingLink dis-engages visibly. (ill.2). Now you can open MissingLink by hand (ill. 3).

Maintenance The chain is a very important part of your drive train, therefore, in order to maintain maximum efficiency, optimum shifting performance and minimum noise, correct maintenance is imperative, a well maintained chain lives much longer.

Some care tips: When you unpack your new chain and it will feel a little sticky, this is due to the hi-quality lubricant which is used at the manufacturing stage, this is to protect your chain against corrosion during the time it is waiting for you to use it. In order to prevent dust and dirt sticking to the chain, we recommend you to remove the sticky layer from the outside of your chain by using a cloth and some light oil or solvent. Then dry the chain. Do not drench the chain in solvent! This will cause the high-grade lubricant to dissolve. You will have to lubricate the chain when it feels dry or starts to make more noise during riding (easy to check when you ride along a wall or through a tunnel). Always clean the chain before lubricating it. It is also important to clean chain rings, sprockets and guide pulleys. You should avoid usage of aggressive solvents (brake cleaner, petrol), such agents will dissolve all lubricant and may even harm the chain, causing breakage. Usage of a so called chain washing machine with small solvent reservoir is not advised, because it will cause the dirt to penetrate the chainâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s bearing, which will then have a negative influence on the chain noise and life. Please also consider our environment when using petroleum based solvents. When possible, try to apply the lubricant directly on the chainâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rollers, then turn the chain around a couple of times allowing the lubricant to penetrate.
