Welcome to Military Advanced Education’s 4th Annual Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities. With over 300 responses, interest this year was better than ever. Institutions of every shape, size and signature are represented, and a targeted chart highlights offerings we’ve determined would be of particular importance in the school selection process. Gathered together here is pertinent information about the wide range of benefits select colleges and universities have to offer servicemembers. The schools listed in this guide tell us in 75 words or less why they are appealing to the prospective military student. It is this sort of detail and insight, combined with other specific and targeted criteria—distance learning programs, for instance, and the transferability of credits—that sets Military Advanced Education apart from other guides. Some of the schools listed here offer a broad range of academic programs, while some are extremely specialized. Some have great distance learning programs that do not require students to ever set foot on a physical campus, while others boast exemplary facilities to serve students who have the ability and desire to attend classes in person. This is an exciting time for higher education. Thanks to the Post-9/11 GI Bill, educational benefits for servicemembers are particularly generous, making higher learning not just possible but readily accessible and manageable, especially in regard to the flexibility of online courses. But these days, selecting a college or university can be a complicated and time consuming process. There are so many good schools, and consequently, so many choices. This guide, replete with highly relevant, accurate and up-to-date information, is designed to make that process easier. “It was a lifesaver,” a veteran recently home from Iraq remarked to me last year about the guide. He had been searching for a resource that could help him decide on a school with a strong engineering program. After glancing through the magazine for a few minutes, he told me he knew right away that this was just what he needed to make his decision. I hope you will be equally delighted with what we’ve done. Please visit our online searchable database at www.mae-kmi.com. I welcome your comments and suggestions for improvement in the years to follow.
