DISNEY’S

THE LITTLE MERMAID Set Designer Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Re-imagined through the VSPI theater company, Disney’s The Little Mermaid reflects a minimalist and sleek stage design. The stage was set on a rectangular grid for piece-by-piece assembly. The steel framed structure was finished with reflective paint for digital projections and stage effects. To support the versatile scenes for the musical, the set was built in two detachable pieces and set on rolling casters. There are three hidden doors along the structure to allow for fluid movement across the stage. The conical shape allowed for fog machine and special lighting effects throughout the show. MAINLINE Production Designer Los Angeles, CA

Mainline is a science fiction short film directed by Eric Kleifield. The story revolves around a reclusive bioengineer who faces the horrific consequences of his time-traveling serum. ​ Preproduction of the set began in July 2015 and the production team began construction and set-decorating in June 2016. The set involves the construction of flats and uniquely designed props to convey a dark, laboratory environment. The production design duties covered budgets, scenic painting, construction, technical and graphic drawings, practical effects, on-set assisting and set-dressing. ​ Art Director & Co-Production Designer: Jeannette Cardona Mainline will premiere Summer 2017. ​Photography: Rachel Collins

PASADENA HOUSING System Integrations & Comprehensive Housing Studio Pasadena, CA

The project site is located on the corner of a residential area in Pasadena, CA. Following a mattescheme housing, the 14 unit complex is flipped and arranged in a way to provide three levels of privacy. Ranging from the most private--which lie in the internal courtyards, to the more public situated on the second level which allows neighbor interaction over the balconies. BELLARIVA Site Research Project Florence, Italy

Bellariva is an abstract landscaping project focused on representing historical symbolism through modular architectural solutions. The project located along the river Arno, in central Italy, focuses on reestablishing a relationship between the citizens and the city. By reinterpreting historical symbols of the past, the public can enjoy a streamline of areas made up of abstracted modular blocks in a park that range from playgrounds, to shops, to river docks. Each module represents a significant symbol of the past and together weaves a physical timeline dating from the middle ages to present day.

Masonry, one of the oldest building components to date, has been a timeless facilitator to modular construction. New opportunities to modify this ancient construction technique are now achievable with digital fabrication. The project uses a newly formed masonry to create an inhabitable poche and utilize specific design techniques to explore the differences between spaces for passing through and spaces designated for waiting. Ultimately, the rehabilitation center investigates the phenomenological and therapeutic possibilities of waiting. The base module works in tri-axial configuration allowing the entire system to arrange in multiple assembly types. Overall, the system forms smooth and textured surfaces that ultimately respond to the rehabilitation center’s programmatic organization. The different degrees of texture and transparency in the project reflect the varying levels of privacy. Whenever the space is considered a place for direct movement, the surfaces remain smooth. In stationary areas, such as waiting spaces, a highly textured surface is exposed. The literal state of waiting manifests using the quality of space and surface to enable therapeutic response. Many patients check-in to a rehabilitation center feeling alienated and vulnerable, a sign they are unhappy with themselves and their environment. Architectural forms that emphasize the joint, texture, and transparency encourages patients to shift their focus from misery to fascination with the complexity of the space that reveals itself true to its most intimate details.
