Reading Transforms is a series that’s very close to my heart. My mother was a librarian so I grew up loving books. I learned at an early age that books can have a profound impact on our lives. They can literally transform the way we think. So the reading Transforms Series is my artistic representation of that concept. The books the models are reading are transforming their outfits into that of the character they are reading about, whether a princess, a villain or a young adult novel character. Their outfits are literally made out of the written word: newspaper. Each dress is built right around each model so it is custom to her and then detailed to be inspired by the character they are representing. Chapter 5 is already in the works-we’re looking for models and other characters to portray through the series, so contact us if you’d like to be involved. Don’t forget, when all is said and done, everything you read transforms you.
Rory teaches us to be a warrior. When she finds herself trapped in a mental institute for murdering her boyfriend, Phillip, Rory will need the help of her friends to discover who she truly is, a princess who needs to fight for her kingdom.
Inspired by “Slumber by Christy Sloat
Behind the Scenes Christy, the author, actually got to talk to the model during the shoot through facebook messaging!
Behind the Scenes This was the second crown I made. The first was not nearly as spectacular.
The Sirens teach us to listen carefully. Their poetic words often hold wise warnings that listeners tend to neglect. If only they would listen they would spare themselves a great deal of heartache. Inspired by “Drown by Esther Dalseno
Behind the Scenes Esther, the author, told me all about the Sirens before the book debuted. The image was created on the day the book released.
Behind the Scenes The jellyfish hat is made entirely of newspaper. I created it the day before the shoot.

Effie loves to find the beauty in the world around her. While she may value the flashy, she makes the most out of whatever situation she finds herself in and looks for the good and the beautiful.
Behind the Scenes I let my model call group and my photographer friends vote on which costume to recreate.
Inspired by “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins
Behind the Scenes I couldn’t help it, we did two Effie images because two of the costumes were voted for the most.

Allyssa teaches us to experience life much like she does when she sneaks out of the palace and spends her evenings taking down criminals with her best friend. She does not allow even her royal position to keep her from experiencing all that life has to offer. Behind the Scenes Author Jennifer helped design the dress. Inspired by “Cage of Deceit” by Jennifer Anne Davis Behind the Scenes The sleeves were made with a solid sheet of newspaper taped by one corner around the model’s arm.
Maddy teaches us to trust ourselves. Throughout the story, Maddy is presented with many opportunities where she must make choices about her life. Even when she is told otherwise, she trusts herself and discovers things she never knew she could learn.
Inspired by “Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
Behind the Scenes The dress is based off of a one-size-fits-most stretch dresses they sell near the beach.
Behind the Scenes The flower she is wearing was used in previous chapters of the Reading Transforms series.

Inspired by “The Lost Imperial Series by Sherry Ficklin and Tyler Jolley
Behind the Scenes All three girls were photographed at the same time. Two of the models are sisters.
Ember teaches us to make tough choices. She faces difficult situations and has to do what is best for the people she loves, even if it isn’t easy. Inspired by “The Lost Imperial Series” by Sherry Ficklin Behind the Scenes and In the book, she is given a Tyler Jolley cameo necklace that has an hour glass on it. I made the hourglass cameo out of duct tape the day before the shoot. Behind the Scenes Her cuffs are made from duct tape so they would stand out against the newspaper armbands.
Sisson teaches us to care for our families, even if that family is made of friends. Sisson often puts herself in risky situation to take care of the people she loves.
Inspired by “The Lost Imperial Series by Sherry Ficklin and Tyler Jolley
Behind the Scenes Sisson wears goggles in the book so I made goggles out of duct tape.
Behind the Scenes I talked to author Sherry before the session and she showed me the inspiration behind each character.
Stein teaches us to find answers when we have questions. When Stein finds she has something she needs to know about, nothing stops her from finding out the information she needs. Even when she is certain the answer isn’t what she wants to hear, she refuses to let it go. Behind the Scenes My original intent was to fashion Stein’s outfit after one described in the book. When it came down to it, I decided to run with the outfit on the cover of her book, Prodigal.
Behind the Scenes The top hat, possibly my favorite piece ever, is made from newspaper and her armband is made entirely of duct tape.
