BRIAN SOLOMON
Ash Haywood is a photography student at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. She is pursuing her interest in experimental and visual means of transformational storytelling through the photography medium. Her most recent projects are rooted in the sensuous experience of her surroundings. Having lived in a range of urban and rural landscapes throughout her childhood, she is interested in the relationships people hold with their environment and the impact they have on our somatic experience. Brian Solomon is 25 years old. He is a filmmaker, photographer and artist who was raised in New Mexico and Long Beach, New York.

PATRICK ROESSNER I’m Patrick Roessner Avila. I’m 23 years old. Mexican and German. I’m an undergraduate studio artist and actor. I have been in more then 20 short films. One of these short films won Best Drama in the this year’s Harvard Film Festival. I find pleasure to be my - any kind of pleasure. Whatever makes me happy, whatever seems to be right, whatever lets me be free. This is how art has become the center of my life, and why I became so addicted to the process, the exploration, the results. My happiness is my work.

Walking and documenting the streets of Santa Fe, I have come to understand that the residue of the human experience has an essence all its own. Sometimes stark and mostly still, this collection of photographs reveals the phenomenological features of possessions left in the wake of progress. They resonate in a voice all their own. This voice, interpreted through a visual language, suggests the essence of the seemingly still and inanimate, so long as the viewer remains sensuously present with them. By taking an object-oriented view of the cities that surround us – specifically all that is tall and what speaks bright in the night – we may realize the truth of these objects, not just as an echo of human utility, but as unique entities existing in tandem with ourselves.

First Human was my attempt at confronting an impossible question. Did consciousness evolve slowly over time or was there another force that made us what we are now? We come into the world after being in dark space. Immediately, we’re bombarded with shapes, noise, and light. I took Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and made my own version. What would it be like to live your whole life up until any given point in the dark, in nothingness, unable to experience anything and then suddenly burst into human form and consciousness? What would it be like to experience it all for the first time. These are the first humans. I’ve been an artist my whole life. I never stop questioning things, and I want to show the world what’s inside my head because it’s the only way I can move on to something new. I let the images surface and they dictate what they’re going to be. I’m from both Long Beach, New York and New Mexico. I’ve grown up in placid, white beach suburbia and broken-down areas of New Mexico. I’ve seen the variations in people and cultures that have shaped my views and given me an outside-looking-in perspective on people and how they work. With my work I’d like to remind people where we came from and what matters.

Mandalas. A group of four people (Rachel Freeman, Humberto Irigoyen, Stephanie Thompson, and Patrick Roessner) decided to work together in meditation while drawing. Mandala a la’SantaFe. The investigation of meditation while drawing, using the simple repetition of a line during two months of work. At the end I learned more about the use of negative space on paper and the information applied than about myself. The idea is to show how easy it is to work with a simple amplified line and let the quality of the line speak for itself. Santa Fe. Represents Santa Fe with just Santa Fe colors. Industrie-60.
