5 EFFECTIVE TIPS FOR FEEDING YOUR CHICKENS JUST THE RIGHT WAY

Feeding chickens sounds pretty basic, right? But it’s not all that simple. A majority of your chicken farming costs are likely to go into feeding the chickens. As caretaker of your chickens you need to pay attention to their nutritional needs. Besides, chickens too love eating! They like spending their days wandering around the farm, and every once in a while tasting bits and pieces of food placed in the chicken feeders. So for something as important as feeding, it’s worthwhile to keep learning more about how you can serve your chickens better. Below are certain tips that you can use to provide superior feeding arrangement for your chickens.
1. Buy a Large Enough Feeder You don’t want a situation where too many chickens are trying to eat from a small chicken feeder and in the process none of them are eating enough. Have enough poultry feeders to properly feed all your poultry birds. Also make sure that each chicken feeder is large enough to hold sufficient feed. You never want the chickens to overcrowd over a single feeder.
2. Clean Feeders Before Refills Your chicken feeders should be super clean when you’re filling them up with fresh feed. So every time you go ahead for refilling the chicken feeder, check to see if there are any old, stale or mouldy grains and seeds leftover in the feeder. If you find any, clean them out before pouring in the fresh feed. Eating damp or mouldy grains can make your poultry birds unwell.
3. Protect the Feed from Spoilage Purchasing high-quality feed is great, now you just need to make sure that the high quality of the feed remains intact. Firstly, don’t buy too much feed at a time. Stock up the feed for maximum of 4 weeks. Once this stock of feed gets all used up, buy fresh new feed. Secondly, where and how you store the feed is also important. Use a container where the feed can remain dry and away from insects and rodents.

4. Free Choice or Fixed Time Feeding? Should you feed your chickens at a fixed time every day or allow your chickens to eat the feed whenever they want to throughout the day? Each has its own pros and cons to credit. If a busy schedule keeps you from tending to chickens at set times during the day, go for free choice feeding. In this form of feeding, your chickens will be free to eat as much and as frequently as they desire throughout the whole day. On the other hand, if your schedule allows you to fill up feeders at set times during the day, you can try out fixed time feeding.
5. Provide the Treats in Moderation Yes even the chickens should have treats and snacks in moderation, just like us humans should! Overeating of treats can cause many problems in chickens like feather-picking, obesity, protein deficiencies, lessened egg production, more risk of heart related problems, etc.
