THE DIFFERENCES WITH THE ORTHODOX CHURCH ACCEPTANCE BY THEM OF ONLY THE FIRST SEVEN ECUMENICAL COUNCILS REJECTION OF ANY SINGLE HEAD OF THE CHURCH REMARRIAGE OF DIVORCED INDIVIDUALS QUESTIONING OF CATHOLIC DOGMAS AS: PURGATORY, PAPAL INFALLIBILITY & IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. Christ in the Churches

16

THE DIFFERENCES WITH PROTESTANTS JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH ALONE GRACE ALONE AS SUFFICIENT FOR SALVATION THE PRIMACY OF THE BIBLE THE LORD’S SUPPER THE NUMBER OF SACRAMENTS PAPAL AUTHORITY THE POSITION OF THE VIRGIN MARY Christ in the Churches

17

Reasons of the Break •Faith Alone (Sola Fide)- That salvation comes only from faith in Jesus. •Immaculate Conception – Mary was conceived without sin •Mass Celebration – The highest form of worship. The Catholics sacrifice Jesus daily and often. •Worship of Idols – Worship of graven images •Infallibility of the Pope – The pope is never wrong •Bible alone (Sola Scriptura) – Only thru the Bible can we find the truth not from traditions •Divorce – Catholic do not allow divorce •Celibacy of Priest – Priest cannot marry Christ in the Churches

18

Reasons of the Break •Purgatory – A cleaning place is not in the Bible • Women Pastors – Protestant allows ordination of women • Child baptism – Child should know why s/he is being baptized • Baptism by infusion – Jesus was Baptized by immersion • Charging of fees –Church services are too expensive • Celebrating of feast on the wrong days – Birth of Jesus’ birthday should be October not Dec. 25. Christ in the Churches

19

Reasons of the Break Lust for Power – Being able to

lead many people or having many followers. Huge following also brings political power or influence.

Lust for Women – Power brings with it popularity and popularity attracts many women. Martin (41 at that time) married Katharina Von Bora (26) a nun.

Love for Money – Being able to

attract many followers many will donate to the cause of the leader. Next Slide shows that there are many organizers of religion. All of them became millionaires. Christ in the Churches

TOWARDS OVERCOMING DIVISION WITH THE PROTESTANTS “ONE CANNOT CHARGE WITH THE SIN OF SEPARATION THOSE WHO AT PRESENT ARE BORN INTO THESE COMMUNITIES AND IN THEM ARE BROUGHT UP IN THE FAITH OF CHRIST, AND… THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ACCEPTS THEM WITH RESPECT AND AFFECTION AS BROTHERS” (UR #3) Christ in the Churches

28

NOT INDIFFERENTISM BUT

UNITY IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH “IT IS THROUGH CHRIST’S CATHOLIC CHURCH ALONE, WHICH THE UNIVERSAL HELP TOWARDS SALVATION, THAT THE FULLNESS OF THE MEANS OF SALVATION WILL BE ATTAINED” (UR #3) “ALL CHRISTIANS SHOULD PRAY FOR THE UNITY OF THE CHURCH AND WORK TOWARDS THAT GOAL ACCORDING TO THE MIND OF CHRIST.” (UR #7) Christ in the Churches

29

ALL CHRISTIANS AGREE ON THE ESSENTIALS OF CHRISTIAN FAITH

BELIEF IN JESUS CHRIST; ALL ARE CHRISTIANS. THE TRINITY THE NEW TESTAMENT SALVATION RESURRECTION

CHRISTIAN LOVE Christ in the Churches

30

THE LIFE OF GRACE IS NOT THE MONOPOLY OF CATHOLICS

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH “ TEACHES THAT THE LIFE OF GRACE, THE THEOLOGICAL VIRTUES AND THE OTHER GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, ARE AVAILABLE TO CHRISTIANS OUTSIDE THE VISIBLE BOUNDARIES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH” (UR # 3) Christ in the Churches

31

THE CATHOLIC POSITION “CHRIST THE LORD FOUNDED ONE CHURCH AND ONE CHURCH ONLY” (UR#1) AND “THE SOLE CHURCH OF CHRIST CONSTITUTED AND ORGANIZED AS A SOCIETY IN THE PRESENT WORLD, SUBSIST IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, WHICH IS GOVERNED BY THE BISHOPS IN COMMUNION WITH HIM” (LG#8) THIS TRUTH IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE CHURCH’S TEACHING ON ECUMENISM Christ in the Churches

32

SUMMARY : By Nuener & Dupuis  THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE SACRAMENT OF UNITY  IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS FOUND THE FULLNESS OF THE MEANS OF SALVATION  BUT IT IS ALSO PRESENT THOUGH IMPERFECTLY AND IN VARIOUS DEGREES, IN CHURCHES WHICH DO NOT HAVE FULL COMMUNION WITH ROME.  THE CHURCH’S REFORM IS NECESSARY FOR UNITY  THE STATUS AND PRIVILEGES OF EASTERN PATRIARCHATES MUST BE RESPECTED; THEIR ANCIENT TRADITIONS AND CUSTOMS MUST BE PRESERVED.  DIALOGUE WITH BOTH ORTHODOX AND EVANGELICAL CHURCHES Christ in the Churches

33
