The selected site borders on a residential neighborhood making scale, detailing, and material selection important considerations. Low maintenance materials such as splitface and burnished concrete block, fiber-cement siding, aluminum casement windows, and asphalt shingles were utilized to create a functional facility that fit into its surroundings. Neighborhood design meetings were held to gather input and discuss concerns about building size, noise, traffic patterns, etc. A major goal was for the building and firefighting crews to be good neighbors.
