hello! about me >> My Name is Marie-Christin Gautsche and I am a 23-year old communication designer based in Cologne in Germany . I started my studies at Cologne Design Academy in Autumn/2010. I also worked in an advertising agency in 2012 for 6 months to gain experience of working in a company and an insight into real, commercial projects. I‘m passionate about creating new designs and concepts and I love solving problems with creativity. Creating the perfect harmony between form and function is an exciting challenge. During my studies and internships I‘ve built up good skills in using the prevalent design programs, such as Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Besides that I also love to sketch and illustrate. Sketching ideas is central for my working process and forms the basis of my project preparation. Please enjoy my work on the following pages!

pop art a-z book design >> The task of the project „type abc“ was to design an A-Z book on an artistic topic. I decided to design and illustrate a book, that guides the reader through the major facts about the pop art movement. The book contains information about the movement in general, the artists, the artwork, and pop art related terms. Every single topic shows topic related illustrations and quotations. The typical colours, and style of pop art, form the basis of the design, and reflects the colourful and shiny popular culture. The characteristic Benday-Dots are also an important stylistic element. The following pages present a few examples of the 46-pages of the book.

three bubble tea packaging >> This project includes a corporate design for a fictitous tea company as well as packaging design, labels with tea samples and an information brochure. The idea was to create a Bubble-Tea Do-it-yourself package. The Bubble Tea brand is called „three“ and the whole concept is well-founded around the number three: >> Bubble Tea consists of three different ingredients: tea, flavour powder and Tapioka pearls >> It only needs 3 small steps to make your own Bubble Tea >> the brand offers three packages with different flavours. The ingredients are packed in small plastic bubbles based upon the shape of the Tapiokapearls. The round shape of the pearls is a stylistic element for the whole corporate design. Therfore not only the package , but also the brochure, labels and typography follow the round shape form.

delilah - love you so cd cover art >> Delilah is a british singer and song-writer, who has been influenced by music-genres like Dub, Dubstep, Drum n‘Bass and Accoustic. She describes her sound as dark, bass heavy, melodic soul-pop. I designed a new Logo, Cd Booklet, including cover, backcover and Cd inlay and Disk for her EP called „love you so“, which is full of electronic sounds and lyrics about love and relationships. As a symbol of love, I used a very graphical heart shape. It also creates the effect of sound waves, or in this case bass waves, which are used as a stylistic element, along with the colour, to emphasise her style of music. The colours are reduced to black and magenta.

kate & digitalism poster design >> On the next few pages you can see tour and concert posters, which I designed for the singer Kate Nash and the electro-house duo Digitalism. The first poster is designed for Kate Nash‘s fall tour. Her lyrics are mostly about love, relationships and heartbreaks. These aspects came together to form the idea of creating a breaking heart out of Autumn leaves. The second image shows a digitalism concert poster. The DJ-duo use clear sounds within classic songs structures, along with powerful bass. This influence can be seen in the posters, where clear forms leads to a powerful, overall picture. In modifying, and stringing together their logo, a larger pattern emerges that leads the viewer‘s gaze towards the information at the bottom.

mobile eco clean logo design >> I designed this Logo during my internship at Rheingeist advertising agency for a company called mobile eco clean with the slogan „ better clean green“. Mobile eco clean is a mobile cleaning service, that only works with eco-friendly products. The client wanted a compact, fresh and clean Logo, that represents hygiene and ecology in colour and shape. The Logo is a fusion of a water drop and a leaf that are represented by both shiny green and intensive blue colors. The use of these natural colours in turn demonstrates the cleanliness and enviromentfriendly approach of the company, evidently representing their eco-friendly philosophy. The Logo type shows a very modern, clean and characteristic sans serif font.

dislike aids - protect yourself print campaign >> The task was to create an anti-aids print campaign. In a group of 3 people, we designed posters for an English welfare group. The target audience for our campaign is predominantly teenage and internet users. In this day and age, people, especially the younger generations, identify with the Internet and social networks, such as Facebook, attract their attention. This is why we decided to create a campaign for the welfare group in co-operation with Facebook, called „dislike aids, protect yourself“. The idea is communicated through Facebook conversations between concerned people, and famous internet characters. The conversations are written in a humorous way, but with a very serious underlying message.
