After a stroll through the narrow lanes of the old town of Bonn, the charm of this 2000-year-old city will enrapture you. You will quickly understand why Casanova regarded Bonn so highly. Not least was surely its quality of a royal capital that essentially still characterizes the city today. The Cologne archbishop -electors Joseph Clemens and Clemens August from the Wittelsbach dynasty erected the imposing town hall as well as the palaces, which the university still uses today. In 1770 Ludwig van Beethoven, Bonn’s most famous son, saw the light of day. For more than 100 years his birthplace has served as a museum. Only a few steps away, the Romanesque minster of Saints Cassius and Florentius dominates Münsterplatz. During a coach tour you will be able to view the meanwhile historic sites of German federal politics. We will pass the Haus der Geschichte der Deutschen Bundesrepublik (House of German History) and see the last plenary hall, today a conference centre. Flanking your path are other former government embassy buildings of the past as well as some of the ministries that did not move to Berlin. Ohne Innenbesichtigung

Rheintour im eigenen Bus Guided Tour on the Rhine

Duration: 10 Hours Fee: €700,- in a foreign language, additional cost for Rhine ferry and/or cruise ship

The much extolled beauty of the Rhine becomes quickly evident on this trip along the river. Numerous castles line the Rhine Valley. Vineyards on steep slopes and picturesque villages invite you to wine tastings. Two of the most beautiful Rhine castles, rediscovered in the period of Rhine romanticism are Marksburg above Braubach near Koblenz and Stolzenfels Castle, which was erected by Karl-Friedrich Schinkel within the old Romanesque foundations of the former castle. We will pass original sites of German history such as the former imperial stronghold Burg Hammerstein, into which Henry IV fled from his son, with the crown insignia. Often there are tragic sagas surrounding the Rhine and its castles, above all that of the Lorelei. On this tour they come alive again. What’s the deal with the hostile brothers, the ‘mouse tower’ or the seven stone virgins? If you ask yourself like Heinrich Heine did, ‘I know not, what does it mean…’ – then you will find some answers on this tour.
