Brother Knights,

When I contemplated upon the San Gabriel Valley Chapter’s theme for this Columbian Year, I choose a Bible verse that has great meaning in my life. In fact I have expressed to my wife that I want these same lines placed on the prayer cards for my funeral. This may seem morbid, however we must recall the words stated in our initial degree, “Tempest Fuguit, Memento Mori,” “Time Flies, Remember Death.” journey that led me to becoming the California College Council Coordinator. This culminated with a trip to Supreme in New Haven, Connecticut on September 30th. sponsored a Eucharistic Procession from Mission San Gabriel to St. Anthony Church. What a tremendous testament it was to carry our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist throughout the city streets with 80 people! We conducted this procession on October 12th in honor of our namesake Christopher Columbus and Our Lady of Pillar.

The verse chosen is from Isaiah 40:31, “They shall run and not grow weary.” Brothers, it is amazing to think how quickly this Columbian Year has progressed, the first quarter is done! It is also amazing to consider how much we have accomplished.

I was blessed to take four other young Brother Knights with me and we had an incredible weekend: we prayed at the tomb of our Founder Blessed Fr. Michael J. McGivney; we had dinner in the basement of St. Mary Church where the Knights of Columbus was founded on October 2, 1882; we attended a reception at our Order’s Museum; we took pictures with our Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly and Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York City.

It was great to see so many of you at the Chapter Installation. How wonderful it was to have such a beautiful Mass celebrated by our Bishop David O’Connell and have in attendance our Past State Deputy Dr. Noel Panlilio, State Deputy Rene Trevino, State Chaplain Fr. John Grace, and Past Chapter President Thomas Quintana.

On September 12th, the day after the Installation, I began a

I am excited at the prospect of starting Knights of Columbus College Councils throughout the State, but particularly here in the San Gabriel Valley. Cal State LA and the first Junior College in the Order’s history, East Los Angeles Community College, are in the works for new Councils in our Chapter. Imagine speaking to young men in our local colleges about Jesus. It is our duty to bring our Catholic faith to the public.

Our Chapter also brought our Catholic faith to the public as we

This month is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, please carry it always and pray it often! We need our Lady’s guidance as we go about our daily battles. One battle we are asked to lead is against Prop 1, please read Page 3 and get into the fight. Also, let us honor our spiritual leaders on November 11th at our Clergy Appreciation Dinner. Brothers, let us run and not grow weary, Vivat Jesus!
