THE MASTER OF SCIENCE IN REAL ESTATE
The Kogod School of Business Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) builds on a long history of excellence in real estate education at American University. The MSRE is designed to accommodate students with a variety of academic and professional backgrounds through a flexible and diverse curriculum. Learn real-estate-specific knowledge, while pursuing studies in a range of disciplines that include business and finance. Graduates are prepared for successful careers in commercial development, private equity, mortgage finance, asset and property management, acquisitions, corporate real estate, as well as government agency and nonprofit work.
YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW Kogod School of Business is accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which represents the highest standard of achievement for a business school worldwide. Kogod is a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Fast-Track School. MSRE students are able to satisfy three of the four CCIM requirements. Underwriting and the financial modeling process (ARGUS and Excel) are taught in Kogod’s Financial Services and Information Technology Lab. American University hosts the annual Real Estate Games, where more than 1,700 people from the commercial real estate community participate and compete in an Olympic-style sporting event to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation The program satisfies eight course requirements for a Certified Property Management (CPM) designation.

PETER CHINLOY, MSRE Faculty Program Director, Professor
Chinloy has published several books and articles, and his specialty is on mortgage markets and the equity side of commercial real estate. He has taught at Cornell, University of Southern California and the University of British Columbia among other schools. Chinloy received an undergraduate degree from McGill and master’s and doctoral degrees from Harvard. He has worked at and been involved as a consultant in apartment, office, retail and hotel investment and development, and at various equity and debt providers. ERIC MARIBOJOC (MBA ’93), Associate Director, Kogod Real Estate
Program, Adjunct Professor Maribojoc is an experienced real estate professional with extensive experience in acquisition, financing, asset management, construction, leasing, repositioning and sale of multifamily, office, retail and industrial properties. He is president of River Valley Group LLC, and previously worked at Professors Capital and Pacific Western Mortgage and Investment Company. Maribojoc is an alum of the Kogod MBA program with a focus in finance and real estate. STEVEN TEITELBAUM, Adjunct Professor Teitelbaum is a senior real estate advisor at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro). He negotiates and coordinates private sector development on Metro-owned property, usually around Metrorail stations, applying principles of transitoriented development. He has practiced commercial real estate transactional law in New York and Washington, D.C. JOHN KATKISH, Executive-in-Residence Katkish is the founder and president of the asset management firm First Management Group Inc., where he supervises all client real estate and investment accounts exceeding $1 billion. Katkish has extensive experience in acquisitions, dispositions, property management, building development, lease portfolio management, debt placement, and restructuring.
