ON HIS KOGOD EXPERIENCE:
“Everything I learned at Kogod has made me immeasurably better in my work. My focus is sustainability in real estate, but the sustainability courses I took at Kogod gave me a much broader view of corporate CSR practices. I find myself frequently trying to implement concepts I learned from our case studies.”
ON HER KOGOD EXPERIENCE:
“I chose Kogod because of American University’s reputation as a community-minded, green campus that practices what it teaches. Knowing that sustainability is a rapidly evolving field that will demand multi-disciplined professionals, I wanted to be sure I had a solid background in business management as well as environmental topics. In the future, I expect that my MSSM degree from Kogod will open many doors in emerging sustainability job markets and give employers confidence that I am well-prepared to handle any green business challenge they can throw at me.”
EMILY BILLHEIMER, MSSM ’14 Undergraduate Study: University of Virginia, Architecture Employer: Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP, Senior Architectural Interiors Professional FUTURE AMBITIONS
To become the mayor of a small town. “Mayors can influence local environmental policy more than anyone else. A city itself is an opportunity to create a holistic, sustainable setting, including public transit, bike lanes, pedestrian-friendly streets, and design that inspires people. I plan to work at the Mayor’s Institute on City Design, an arm of the American Architectural Foundation, to gain a better understanding of how cities will evolve in the future.” WHY KOGOD?
“I chose Kogod’s MSSM program because of its innovative interdisciplinary approach to studying sustainability management. You make the program what you want it to be, which is what attracted me to it over others with a more narrow approach.”
YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW »» Full-time students can complete the MSSM program in two calendar years, and part-time students can complete the program in three calendar years.
