An old town
Piwniczna-Zdrój, a small spa town, is tucked into the valley. It has a long history as it was founded by King Casimir III the Great in 1348. It was supposed to guard the trade route which ran from Hungary to Poland thanks to which it developed significantly. Merchants went through the town transporting, among others, famous Hungarian wine which was to reach the royal tables at the Wawel Castle. Great craftsmen and talented folk artists worked there for ages creating this beautiful settlement. At present their heritage can be admired in the small but interesting Regional Museum. You should visit the place to participate in some regional events during which the folklore of Piwniczna is displayed or pop into local restaurants to taste the cuisine of Black Highlanders or Lemkos.
