TWO NATIONAL PARKS SIT AT OUR DOORSTEP: MOUNT REVELSTOKE & GLACIER.

Gather your family and circle the trunk of an ancient cedar tree, stand on a mountain summit, and take in vivid alpine wildflowers in full bloom.

Drive into Mount Revelstoke National Park on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway. The paved road begins in lush evergreen forests of hemlock and white pine; bringing you first to the Beaver Lodge Kids Bike Park, then the Nels Nelsen exhibit— where ski jumping world records were once set. You can literally step into “Nels’ Knickers”, an interactive sculpture that lets you lean into the air like a ski jumper. From here, wander into Inspiration Woods or cruise the Soren Sorensen trails, a local favorite.

Further East on Hwy 1, visit the Giant Cedars and Hemlock Grove Boardwalks, or explore railway history along easy trails in Rogers Pass National Historic Site. Saunter through high alpine meadows with spectacular mountain vistas at the top of Mount Revelstoke National Park. As the forest gives way to moss and heather, lingering ice and snow frame impressive quartzite walls in the distance. Hike the Balsam Lake, Eagle Knoll, Koo Koo Sint, Heather Lake, or First Footsteps trails for a solid introduction to the area.

For a bigger itinerary, step up your stride in Glacier National Park with a visit to Marion Lake. Follow the steep trail up Avalanche Crest along treeless slopes offering views of glaciated peaks ringing in rocky harmony. Graduate from the meadows in Mount Revelstoke National Park onto Miller and Eva Lakes, a farther 5.5km and 6km out. Want more? Continue another 3.5km from Miller out to Jade Lakes—a trail runner’s dream circuit.

In Glacier National Park, the famously steep Abbott Ridge Trail offers spectacular mountain, glacier and valley views. If you have mountaineering skills, check out famous Mount Sir Donald across the valley, to ascend over 2,000 meters to reach the summit.
