“Form follows Environment”
Office for Hmda [Research on effects of solar insolation on building form]
This project is a typical office building for metropoliton development authority in Hyderabad, India. Since this office represents a city and should act as a role model to other buildings in the city, A research was performed to derive a form that is suitable for the climatic conditions and also reduces the intake of solar insolation inturn helping the building to be energy efficient. The methodology of the research is to compare solar insolation values for different forms that are suitable for an office building and find a suitable form considering the parameters such as shape, height, orientation for the climatic conditions of Hyderabad. And find the suitable height of the form by comparing the values of different heights of the suitable form. The goal of this process is to create a formula for finding a form that is suitable for a certain climate rather than just giving a solution.
The conclusions from the analysis were ‘U-shape’ oriented in E-W direction and between 10-12 floors have the best solar insolation values. Thus, making it a suitable form for an office building in Hyderabad, India.

The Willow “There are inspirations around us that help us design, I found mine from the willow tree.”
Historically, living next to water was a need. However that need has declined as technology has developed to bring water to buildings. Thinking of a dwelling next to water always prompts thoughts of peace, delight and privacy. These three aspects are also the primary needs for a writer. A writer is like an architect and, as an architect’s studio is shaped by the way he or she works and the approach of their design, a space for a writer could vary based on what he or she writes, A writer may write about people and this may prompt them to socialise. If a writer wishes to write about science fiction, they need to be a dreamer of fiction. Their space needs to be designed to support their writing subject. The spaces around Hoyt lake could provide a perfect atmosphere to meet the needs of a writer. It is certainly peaceful and full of delight. However it is not private. Walking around the lake, I discovered two willow trees that had driven my attention towards them. When I went closer, I found those to be secluded and covert nature. The only way to know what it was hiding was to get through the foliage. When I went through the layers of foliage, the ground was lit with shreds of light that was cut by the willow. The whole space beneath the tree felt like it was isolated from the world that surrounded it. I was certain that I wanted to design a space in that volume.
