OUR DEPARTMENT IS AWARD WINNING! In 2016 our Parks and Recreation Department received recogni tion as a Tree City USA for the 23rd consecutive year. To be recognized our city must meet the Arbor Day Foundation’s and National Association of State Foresters established four standards. Standards include a Tree Board, current tree care ordinance, community forestry program with an annual budgetof at least $2 per capita, and an arbor day observance and proclamation. Our department works diligently throughout the year to ensure that we are exceeding these standards.

The growth award is awarded by the Arbor Day Founda tion to recognize higher levels of tree care by participating Tree City USA communities. The Growth Award highlights innovative programs and projects as well as increased commitment of resources to urban forestry. This is our 6th year to receive this award!that we are exceeding these standards.

DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT

Member: Vu Dang

Keller’s Community Garden: Did you know we even had one? Well... we didn’t until last fall when a Girl Scout approached us about creating one for her project. Lauren Titsworth did a great job working with the department for the initial build. This spring Boy Scout Austin Clark decided to upgrade the boxes to cedar for durability and we planted our first crop at the end of April. (We know it was a little late.) The garden is maintained by the members at the Senior Activities Center and our awesome landscape crew. All of the vegetables harvested will be given away at the Senior Activities Center. Want to get involved? Contact Kyle Cooper @ 817-743-4371. Join us in July as we celebrate Parks and Recreation Month!!! Check our Facebook page and learn how you and your family can participate in our annual photo scavenger hunt. Our parks staff can’t wait to share thier superhero powers with you!! WHAT IF YOUR SUPER POWER???
