Meet The Keller Parks & Rec Staff Q: What is your proudest moment at KPARD? A: When I got nominated for Employee of the Year! Q: If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day? A: T-Swift. See what it is like being rich and famous for a day. Q: If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be? A: Stay at home wife! Q: What is on your bucket list? A: To travel, anywhere and everywhere.

Jordan McCrory

Recreation Service Assistant 2 years of service with KPARD

Top 3 life highlights: Getting engaged Q: If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Graduating college A: Family (including fur babies), construction company to build some houses for us, and food. Getting my horse for Christmas at 7 Q: Before working at KPARD, what was the most unusal or interesting job you’ve ever had? A: I worked on a cruise ship over the summer as a stewardess. Q: Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us. A: I won Miss Majorette of Texas when I was 6 years old. I got a trophy that was literally taller than me and got to Notre Dame in Indiana to compete for Worlds. Q: What do you like to do in your spare time/days off? A: I like to just stay at home, watch movies and just chill. I like spending time with family and also going to the lake in the summer. Crawfish boils at my parent’s house is always fun!

Our Parks and Recreation Department received recognition as a Tree City USA for the 24th consecutive year. To be recognized our city must meet Arbor Day Foundation’s and National Association of State Forester’s established four standards. Standards include a Tree Board, current tree care ordinance, community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita and an arbor day observance and proclamation. Our department works diligently throughout the year to ensure that we are exceeding these standards. The Growth Award is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to recognize higher levels of tree care by participating Tree City USA communities. The Growth Award highlights innovative programs and projects as well as increased commitment of resources to urban forestry. This is our 8th year to receive this award!

FROM THE DIRECTOR’S CHAIR

What did you do this summer? Now that summer is over and the kiddos are back in school, they might get that question from their teachers and classmates. What did we do this summer? Well, we started preparing for another fall of exciting events and activities, which you will find in the following pages. We have also been busy planning for the future of Keller’s Parks and Recreation amenities through our budget process.

In this year’s proposed Keller Development Corporation Budget, we earmarked funding to develop Milestone Park. This twelve acre park is located on Davis Blvd. in southeast Keller. The plans for this park include a passive play/open area, wildflower meadow, trail expansion and approximately 30 parking spaces. The Parks and Recreation Board worked on the plan for over a year with input from citizens and staff. We hope that this park provides additional open space for you to enjoy passive play and recreational activities. Also in the budget is funding to continue to expand our Hike and Bike Trail Ultimate Network. We currently allocate $250,000 a year for the design or construction of trails, or for the acquisition of easements for future portions. Along with this funding, the City of Keller was awarded grant funding for a trail along Whitley and Rapp Roads. Although the grant was awarded, design and other elements will push the beginning of construction back to sometime in 2019. The other item in the Keller Development Corporation Budget is funding set aside for the Park’s Capital Replacement Program. This funding will allow the Parks Department the ability to expedite the repairs or replacement to large park structures, such as playgrounds, pavilions, restroom facilities and other components. This will allow us to ensure that our parks are maintained to the high quality you expect. As always, if you have comments and suggestions for any of the above projects, please come to our monthly Parks and Recreation Board Meetings on the second Thursday of each month, at 6:00 pm at Keller Town Hall. We would love to hear from you.

Until next time,

Cody Maberry Director of Community Services
