CONCEPT:

The Lakehouse is a group project completed by myself, Kaki Brink, and Lauren Wyatt. It is designed to be a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and cost efficient home using sustainability as a foundation for each of these aspects. We have aspired to make the sustainability movement in homes attractive and attainable. The home will feature an energy efficient design in its orientation, systems, and appliances. l Exterior Perspective l Several innovative resources work to improve efficiency and environmental consciousness in this house. The use of these techniques lowers the home’s carbon footprint and contributes to its’ overall sustainable impact.

l Photovoltaic shingles absorb UV radiation and convert it to usable energy in the form of electricity. l The rainwater harvesting system conserves rainwater to irrigate the green roof.

l The house features an intensive roof garden, photovoltaic shingles, rainwater harvesting, a self-programming thermostat, and a radiant floor heating system. l The roof garden contributes to lowering HVAC energy use by heating and cooling the home naturally.

barton

24

l The thermostat employs programs itself to run the heating and cooling systems most efficiently. l Radiant floor heat embedded in the foundation heats the home from the ground up.

Children''s Physical Care Hospital

l 3rd Floor Waiting Perspective - Designed By: Kaitlin Barton, Hannah Yon, Sarah Davis, & Kaki Brink; Rendered By: Kaitlin Barton

05 healthcare p. 27-35

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Children’s Physical Care Hospital is a three-part project. Phase 1 was done in a group with myself, Kaki Brink, Sarah Davis, and Hannah Yon. In this phase, we produced conceptual designs for the Entry, Lobby, 2nd Floor Therapy Gym, and 3rd Floor Waiting/Kitchen Area. Phase 2 and 3 were done individually and consisted of complete designs for a patient room and a nurses’ station. The three phases use evidence based design decisions and are all branded together, but are not located in the same building. PROGRAMS USED: Revit 2011, AutoCad 2011, Google SketchUp 8, Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Illustrator CS5
