DESIGN INTENTIONS The office floors receive daylight from all sides with the intent to reduce the need for electric lighting during typical office hours. The necessity for 50 footcandles of electric lighting in the general office space can then be reduced using light sensors to detect the amount of daylighting available and supplement that with the amount of electric lighting to reach 50 footcandles. At each desk location task lighting is provided to make up the difference from 50 footcandles to the 100 footcandles of light needed for desk work. With these supplementing one another, the building is able to reduce the electrical lighting load in comparison to a typical office building. Instead of providing all the lighting for the office space, electric lighting is supplemented by ‘free’ natural daylighting. Each office desk is not always in use, so the task lighting may be turned on only when needed. Indirect light fixtures were also chosen for the general office lighting the provide a more even distribution of light in comparison to direct lighting.
