Ramakrishna Mission (RKM) is a Hindu religious and spiritual organisation which forms the core of a worldwide spiritual movement known as the Ramakrishna Movement or the Vedanta Movement. The mission is named after and inspired by the Indian saint Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and founded by Ramakrishna’s chief disciple Swami Vivekananda on 1 May 1897. The organisation mainly propagates the Hindu philosophy of Vedanta–Advaita Vedanta and four yogic ideals– Jnana, Bhakti, Karma, and Raja yoga. The Math and the Mission are the two key organisations that direct the work of the socio-spiritual-religious Ramakrishna movement, influenced by 19th-century (18001900) saint Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and founded by his chief disciple Vivekananda. Founded by Vivekananda in 1897, the Math primarily focuses on spiritual training and the propagation of the movement’s teachings. It is a humanitarian and spiritual organisation which carries out medical, relief and educational programs.

The principal workers of the mission are the monks. The mission’s activities cover the following areas: • • • • • •

WETLANDS INTERNATIONAL News: The Sanjay Lake in east Delhi has become polluted over the years and the number of birds sighted there has fallen to 132 from 771 in 2016, according to a census carried out by Wetlands International, a global non-profit organisation. Wetlands International is a global organisation that works to sustain and restore wetlands and their resources for people and biodiversity. It is an independent, not-for-profit, global organisation, supported by government and NGO membership from around the world. It was founded in 1937 as the International Wildfowl Inquiry and the organisation was focused on the protection of waterbirds. Later, the name became International Waterfowl & Wetlands Research Bureau (IWRB). The scope became wider; besides waterbirds, the organisation was also working on the protection of wetland areas.

KEOLADEO NATIONAL PARK News: In a conservation effort to monitor seasonal fluctuations in birds’ movements, the ringing of oriental darters has been taken up in the world-famous Bharatpur bird sanctuary (officially Keoladeo National Park) here after a gap of 22 years. Keoladeo National Park or Keoladeo Ghana National Park formerly known as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India is a famous avifauna sanctuary that hosts thousands of birds, especially during the winter season. Over 350 species of birds are known to be resident. It is also a major tourist centre with scores of ornithologists arriving here in the hibernal season. It was declared a protected sanctuary in 1971. It is also a World Heritage Site. Keoladeo Ghana National Park is a man-made and man-managed wetland and one of the national parks of India. The reserve protects Bharatpur from frequent floods, provides grazing grounds for village cattle, and earlier was primarily used as a waterfowl hunting ground. The 29 km2(11 sq mi) reserve is locally known as Ghana, and is a mosaic of dry grasslands, woodlands, woodland swamps and wetlands.

JOG FALLS News: For providing more facilities for tourists at the Jog Falls, where water from river Sharavati takes a plunge from a height of 810 feet, the Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to build a ropeway, a five-star hotel, coffee bars and other infrastructure there at a cost of ₹116 crore. Jog Falls is a waterfall on the Sharavati river located in the Western Ghats in Karnataka, India. It is the second highest plunge waterfall in India. It is a segmented waterfall which depends on rain and season becomes a plunge waterfall. The falls are major attractions for tourists and is ranked 36th in the list of free-falling waterfalls, 490th in the world by list of waterfalls by total height, 128th in the list of single-drop waterfalls in the World by the waterfall database. Jog Falls is created by the Sharavati dropping 253 m (830 ft), making it the third-highest waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a drop of 335 m (1,099 ft) in Meghalaya and Dudhsagar Waterfalls with a drop of 310 m (1,020 ft) in Goa.
