2018
In 2018, we revive our commitment to principles that will uphold the just, grow and strengthen disciples, share the gift of Jesus Christ and spread love in the community.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
“He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8
SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you doubleminded.” James 4:8
SHARING JESUS
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:14
SPREADING LOVE
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35 YEAR END REPORT

PASTOR’S MESSAGE
My Fellow Disciples, We come to the end of 2017 as a family encouraged and reminded that “Together We Win.” There is no obstacle that we can face fearing defeat because the one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world. When we closed our Together We Can Stewardship Initiative, we were within a few thousand dollars of reaching our goal of $1.2M. But our efforts were not all about money. We saw personal growth, as members journeyed through life together in Life Groups. We witnessed new people give their lives to Christ and join our family. And, I am most proud of the strides we made in outreach that truly showed that THE BLVD LOVES MEMPHIS. Now is no time for us to rest on our laurels. The world that we live in is skeptical of Christian faith and hostile towards the church. There is no need to worry because in the history of humanity, God has always used these times to plant the seeds for a great awakening to happen. As such, in 2018 we will move into a season in the 96 year history of our church where we pray that God will use us to SPARK REVIVAL. Our focus and prayer in 2018 is the same as the prophet of ancient Israel, Habakkuk, whose prayer is recorded in the third chapter and second verse of the book bearing his name, “O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”
2
YEAR END REPORT
There are four ways that God has moved in the life of His Kingdom in the past that we pray God will revive in us this year for our lifetime. First, we will Revive Our Commitment to Social Justice. Many decades ago, the African American church was known as “the NAACP on its knees.” We have
always been the conscience of America. In a time like this, we need to rediscover the prophetic voice of our faith as it leads us to speak truth to power. 2018 is also an important year for our city as we lament 50 years ago when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was slain in our city. More than a solemn observance, we hope to complete the work that Dr. King began 50 years ago to eradicate poverty through the Poor Peoples’ Campaign. Secondly, we will Revive Our Commitment to Spiritual Disciplines. For God’s power to move through us, we must maintain our connection to God by fostering the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, meditation and scripture reading. We will journey together as a congregation to reconnect to God in prayerful hope that God will send a fresh wind of the Spirit to move in our midst. Thirdly, we will Revive Our Commitment to Sharing Jesus. As churches around this country deal with the decline of Christendom and have resigned to ‘swapping’ members, we have been called to share our faith so that people can meet Jesus for the first time. In this year, we will discover practical ways to share our faith in our daily lives. Finally, we will Revive Our Commitment to Spreading Love. One of the hallmarks of our community of faith is that we have always responded to human suffering with the love of Christ. As we seek to love without limits, we will aim to impact more people and communities so that they might know that Jesus and His church truly cares about them. I am already excited about the journey and I hope you will share the excitement the Spirit has ignited inside of me. Yours in Hope of Revival, J. Lawrence Turner Senior Pastor
TOGETHER WE CAN STEWARDSHIP INITIATIVE (TWC)
“Everyone to whom much is given, of him much will be required.” -(Luke 12:48)
In 2015, we trusted God and took a leap of faith to acquire our Southwind Campus to reach more people for Christ. We also officially launched our TWC Stewardship Initiative. Working together from both campuses, we were to “Claim the City and Expand the Kingdom” to Lead, Learn, Live, and Love Without Limits. Our members pledged $1.2 million to our TWC Stewardship Initiative.
After hearing from God, members donated
$1.140M by the end of 2017
Reduced church debt
Funded the BLVD Cares outreach (children’s back packs, Room In The Inn, coats and dinners for the homeless) and other evangelism opportunities Partnered with NEXUS and MASE academies and sponsored financial conferences
Supported HomePointe community resource centers at both campuses
Enhanced children’s nurseries at both campuses
Funded facilities repairs and enhancements

WORSHIP & CREATIVE ARTS MINISTRY “Ministry” is from the Greek word diakoneo, meaning “to serve.” THE BLVD Worship and Creative Arts Ministry serves the congregation by encouraging spiritual growth through the presentation of our musical arts. We are able to do this by first having a personal relationship with God and a desire to be part of the Music Ministry. Our effectiveness is enhanced by thorough preparation of our musical skills and ministering to each other through encouragement, caring and forgiveness. THE BLVD Worship and Creative Arts consists of the Sanctuary Chorus, Men of Power and Promise, Praise Ensemble, Voices of Triumph, Angels of Praise, Southwind Vocal Ensemble and Rhythm Section, Dance, Deaf Ministries, Horizon Vocal Ensemble and Midtown Rhythm Section. The choral units ring with energetic congregational singing, and with great organ/instrumental and choral music in a wide variety of musical genres such as contemporary Christian, traditional and contemporary gospel, African-American spirituals, anthems, hymns, and classical worship selections, which inspire us to bring our whole selves to worship – mind, heart, and spirit.

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. - Colossians 3:23 In early 2017, we launched a Leadership pipeline called LeaderSHIFTS. The purpose of the Leadership Development Pipeline is to equip leaders with the fundamental essentials and expectations that come with leadership at THE BLVD. Strong leaders who are equipped, lead well and replicate themselves to continue the ministry of the BLVD will be developed. Leaders attended two large gatherings to complete monthly learning modules.
