Tennis Lessons & Camps Bettendorf Middle School 2030 Middle Road Register Online March 15 www.bettendorf.org/register Bettendorf’s summer tennis program will be managed by Dan Patrick, Tennis Director at the Life Fitness Center. Dan has been a U.S.P.T.A. teaching tennis professional and directing successful summer camps for over 20 years. Prior to teaching at the Life Fitness Center, Dan taught at the Quad-City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois. Additionally, Coaches Tim Baldridge, Betty Christian, Kevin Johnston and many of last year’s staff will be returning to teach this summer’s lessons! Besides our outdoor youth tennis lessons, we offer you both private and semi-private lessons by appointment. The summer schedule will also include a Junior “SUMMER KICK OFF” Camp with a strong emphasis on educating parents/students to additional opportunities for those players looking for that “NEXT” step in their tennis development! Examples include local junior tennis tournaments and 10/Under Smashers ORANGE/GREEN BALL tournaments. Adults will also have the opportunity for additional times to play this summer during the week and on the weekends. Adaptive tennis programs for wheelchair tennis and Special Olympics are also available. BEGINNERS: Little or no previous experience? Have trouble keeping the ball in play from the baseline? Beginners will learn and develop the basic strokes – lots of fun! INTERMEDIATE: Can sustain a rally from the baseline and serve? Stroke development, scoring, movement and playing will be emphasized. ADVANCED: Considerable experience and play? Emphasis will be on drills, strokes, strategy and match play. *For High School & Junior Varsity level players Please enroll at a realistic level of ability. We may try to find a class that better meets your needs if you are misplaced. Missed classes can only be made up if the Tennis Director can accommodate. If a class has less than four students, you may be asked to switch classes.

“Bettendorf Park Band is my Oasis! I enjoy making music with my fellow musicians, losing myself in the melodies and creating something beautiful to share with the community” Dawn – Bassoon 1 year

BETTENDORF PARK BAND I was looking in a brochure for activities for my kids and stumbled across this, “attention former adult band members” wow I thought, that’s me! The hunt was on for a tuba, after securing one I brushed up with some lessons. The park band welcomed me aboard. It’s always been there for me, it’s my solace and joy! Music has always sustained me and this band gave me the opportunity to play again. I am forever grateful! Rhonda - Tuba 25 years

“I originally joined because it provided opportunity to play my instrument while serving the community. I still feel the same way, though I have also gained an appreciation for the dedication and camaraderie of fellow band members and those who regularly attend our concerts.” Rob – Trumpet 10 years

JOIN THE BAND The band is open to any instrumentalist from high school through post-high school age. Any high school students wishing to join the band must participate in the instrumental music program in their own school. Contributions may be made to Bettendorf Park Band Foundation, City Hall, 1609 State Street, Bettendorf, IA 52722. The only “fee” for membership in the Park Band is the purchase of a Park Band Shirt. At present time, the cost of the shirt is $15.00. Please contact Brian at maestroblh1@gmail. com for more information about joining the band, practice days, times, and location. Or visit www.bettendorf.org/parks and choose Park Band under Points of Interest.

As of today, the band consists of over 40 musicians that rehearse weekly and play seven concerts a year. Last year, they celebrated the band’s 50th anniversary!

SUMMER CONCERT SERIES Concerts are held at Veterans Memorial Park. In case of rain, concerts will move indoors to the Herbert D. Goettsch Community Center, 2204 Grant St. All concerts are FREE and open to the public.

HISTORY The Bettendorf Park Band started in the fall of 1967. Its first concert, in the summer of 1968, was at the Bettendorf Middle Park Lagoon. Summer concerts continued there until 1976 when the band played for the dedication of the band shell in Veteran’s Memorial Park. This became the new home for the park band’s outdoor concerts, and its Director at the time, James Crowder, launched the Summer Park Band Concert Series on Friday evenings. In 1984, the Bettendorf Park Band organized a “not-for-profit” foundation to retain donations for supplementing band operations.
