HoA Annual Meeting The Annual HOA Meeting will be held in September; the date and location will be announced on the website and through the mail as soon as it is finalized. The Board would like to meet as many residents as possible, but if you cannot attend the meeting, we ask that you consider completing the proxy form that will be included with the meeting notice. Our by-laws require enough residents be in attendance or submit proxies for us to conduct the meeting, so your assistance with meeting this requirement would be appreciated.

BULLETIN FROM THE BOARD Are you interested in how your HOA dues are spent? If so, we invite you to attend our 2012 annual meeting in September, where you will have an opportunity to join one of our community committees and participate in the decision-making process. Check out the website www.falconranchhoa.com for details.

Newsletter Deadlines Residents are invited to contribute to this local newsletter. Articles and Brag List items should be submitted to Natalie Boyd (natboydtx@yahoo.com) no later than the 20th of the month BEFORE the newsletter is printed, which is the month before distribution. Please make note of these deadline dates: September 20th - November newsletter October 20th - December newsletter November 20th - January newsletter We need volunteers to help write articles and share information with Falcon Ranch residents. If you would like to help with the newsletter, please contact Natalie Boyd at natboydtx@yahoo.com (email).

Customer Care is Available for Homeowners Do you have a question you need answered or a comment you would like to make regarding our community? If so, please contact the Principal Management Group Customer Care Center at 713-329-7171 or customercare@pmghouston.com (email). Community Pool HOURS The Falcon Ranch pool will be closed during the week when school resumes, but will be open Labor Day Weekend. The pool will then be closed for the season. The splash pad will remain available during the warm autumn months. If you do not have a key to access the pool, you can find a request form in this newsletter or you can contact Customer Care.

Recycle Yard Waste

Residents of Falcon Ranch could benefit the community, as well as their own lawns and pocketbooks, with one simple change in lawn maintenance. If you or your lawn service currently bag grass clippings, simply leaving the clippings to work down into the lawn will make a huge difference in the amount of waste our community puts into the landfill each year. It will also help conserve water, because the clippings will work to maintain moisture in the soil. Both of these benefits will save money in the long run. Moreover, it is estimated that lawns that are naturally fertilized with grass clippings require 25% less fertilizer - resulting in even more savings to you! Grass clippings and finely chopped leaves add vital nutrients and organic matter to the lawn, thus improving the health of the lawn. It isn’t necessary to use a mulching mower; just mow one inch when grass reaches four inches tall. The clippings won’t be noticed and will break down within a week.

HoA Board Positions Available At the annual Falcon Ranch Homeowners meeting to be held in September, homeowners will be electing two HOA Board members. If you are interested in serving on the HOA Board or would like more information, please contact property manager Cindy Nghiem at C.Nghiem@pmghouston.com or call the Customer Care Center at 713-329-7171.

Communicating with PMG If your mailing address changes, please notify PMG via the Customer Care Line immediately. All correspondence from the property management company is sent to the resident’s mailing address on file. The mailing address does not change unless residents contact PMG to update their records. This is especially important to have updated before annual assessments are mailed in November.

Fall Garage Sale

The Falcon Ranch Garage Sale date is scheduled for Saturday, October 6th. Please remember that deed restrictions limit garage sales to days approved by the HOA Board. There is no rain date scheduled for this event.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

You may have noticed the constables patrolling our neighborhoods, working to keep our community safer for everyone. The appearance of constables has raised a question of what to do if you witness suspicious activity. If you see something happening that is an emergency, please call 911. If you see suspicious activities that are not emergencies, call the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office at 281-341-4665.

Pet Peeves

Do your duty as a pet owner! When you take your dog for a walk around the community or to the park, please be courteous to the surrounding neighbors and pick up behind your pet and keep unwanted dog waste from becoming a threat and a nuisance to the safety and enjoyment for all members of the community.

GET THE SMARTEST CARD OF ALL AT FORT BEND COUNTY LIBRARIES The best investment any parent can make is a library card. It’s free. It opens doors to benefits that kids can’t break, wear out or outgrow. September is Library Card Sign-up Month and Fort Bend County Libraries wants to make sure that your child is among the two-thirds of Americans that carry the smartest card of all – a library card. A library card provides free access to videos, DVDs, CDs, software and books. Libraries also offer a wide range of other items to lend to children and their families, including toys, games and puzzles. Most importantly - librarians are on hand to help recommend materials suitable for various ages and interests. A library card becomes even more valuable when someone wants to access many of the library’s online databases from home. The cost of subscribing to these databases as an individual would make them unaffordable to many people, but a library card levels the playing field by making them available to everyone free - as long as you have a library card. Since a library card is free, how can parents afford not to give their children such a valuable tool?

Become an essential part of a student’s life by signing up to be a tutor for the Literacy Council! The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County holds tutor training every other month. After 12 hours of training, outstanding volunteers are equipped to teach Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adults. The trainings prepare tutors to organize and compile lesson plans, learn about various tutoring techniques, understand the purpose of the Literacy Council and much more. Tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor do they need formal teaching experience. We offer many locations for tutoring throughout the area, including locations in Katy. Tutoring sessions are offered during the day

RUOK Program

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computer-generated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for citizens of their community. To request more information or to enroll in this free and very beneficial program, please call the Sheriff’s dept. at 281-341-4704.

ATTENTION! Pet Poops / You Scoop Please be respectful of community grounds and neighbors’ yards. If your pet poops during your walk, be prepared to scoop and trash. Come with a scooper and a recycled grocery bag or anything else. It may not be the most fabulous way to walk your pet, but it does show your respect for every homeowner and our beautiful community.

PLEASE NOTE - Pets on Leashes It is the law in Fort Bend County that all pets must be vaccinated for rabies, registered and restrained. All animals, when outside of an owner’s means of restraint (i.e., in a fenced back yard), must be on a leash. For the safety of all residents, please use all precautions with your pets and keep them on leashes when walking pets in the community EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOUR PET IS HARMLESS. If you see ANY animal roaming freely in the neighborhood, immediately call Animal Control at 281-342-1512. Even if you recognize the animal, be very careful approaching it, as you do not know how it will react; if you can safely retrieve the animal, then call the owner. Otherwise, Animal Control is your best and safest option.

Fort Bend County “Leash Law”

Animal control authorities are permitted to enter your Property to patrol and remove pets. Pets must be registered, licensed and inoculated as required by law. As a dog owner, you are responsible for the control of your dog. If your dog is one that ‘makes objectionable noise,’ you must make every effort to respect your Neighbor’s right to their ‘peace and quiet.’ When your dog is not in your yard, it is imperative that you keep your dog on a leash at all times. While your dog is friendly to you and your family, imagine the consequences if it were to harm someone while it was ‘roaming free.’ Please respect other resident’s right to walk the common area ground without fear of attack from an unleashed dog. Laws are written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash to free a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals.

VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans.

Recycle at the Ft. Bend County Recycling Center! The Ft. Bend County Recycling center is located nearby in Rosenberg (just 10 miles away) and accepts glass/bottles and Styrofoam that Waste Management doesn’t pick up. Visit the Ft. Bend Co. government website for information: www.co.fort-bend.tx.us. Some recycling facts: • It takes about 1-2 million years for glass to decompose. • It takes 1+ million years for Styrofoam to decompose. For more facts on decomposition time, visit http://behealthyandrelax. com/2007/11/how-long-does-it-take-to-decompose.

LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program’s efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community.

Katy Rebels Girls Basketball Association The 8th Grade Katy Rebels-D’Addieco Team took 1st place in the June 30July 1, 2012 Primetime tournament in Humble, TX. The team went 4-0 to win the tournament in convincing fashion. The zone defense continued to frustrate opponents and the extra effort to complete every hustle play led to opportunities that made the difference in the games. Their continued commitment to defense allowed them to control the pace of the games and deflate opponents early, resulting in large margins of victory against quality teams. Congratulations to Allison, LaShanda, Kim, Sydney, Natalia, Alyssa, Emily, Delaney, Tianna and Anna on another successful tournament!

Congregation Or Ami

Great Comedy Night Ross Bennett As comedian Allan Sherman once said, “you don’t have to be Jewish”…… to perform comedy at Congregation Or Ami, West Houston’s only conservative Synagogue, but you do have to be funny. On Saturday, October 13th, nationally renowned comedian Ross Bennett, will perform his unique brand of very funny stand-up comedy at the Synagogue, in an authentic comedy club setting, at 8:30 PM. Over the years, Ross Bennett has appeared at the Friar’s Club and on many TV programs including “Evening at the Improv.” Bennett also co-wrote and stars in the very funny play, PASTRAMI ON RYE WITH MAYO, about the last 4 comedians performing in the Catskills. The October 13th performance is open to the entire West Houston / Katy community. Please purchase your tickets early, as seating is limited. Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teenage girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.
