WEST MEMORIAL FALL 2012
It is that special time of the year when the children are back at school. Watch out for the children and stay off the cell phone. The Pool is closed and the talk of football is a normal conversation once again. The weather has begun to cool down and hopefully a seasonal change can be observed. Then we have our special events such as: our National Night Out in Texas - October 2nd, Halloween October 31st and our General Election Day - November 6th. This is a time when our emotions look toward the coming Holidays and the excitement of being with family, friends and neighbors. Inside West Memorial there have been changes. SCS Management has been replaced with High Sierra Management. This was done with your Directors meeting multiple times interviewing different Companies and selecting the best package for our Neighborhood. Some of the potential savings will assist those struggling with ďŹ nancial matters and not cause additional costs to the rest of us. The others savings will help off-set expenses beyond our control. We are all aware some these challenges in our own monthly bills. More details can be found at www.westmemorial.org, our community website. West Memorial Directors meet every fourth Tuesday of each month in the Club House at 7:00 PM. The meetings are open to residents in West Memorial. You can make requests to the Management Company to add an item to the Monthly agenda. Last minute items are challenging because of required postings so allow enough time to get it on the agenda. Comments from the residents are received during the initial portion of the meeting. They are welcomed and do get followed up on. New Information on High Sierra Management will be posted on the website. The current information I am listing here is for General Public.

BEHIND THE SCENE INSIGHT
The inspector is hired by the Management Company and is sent out to collect data. Your Directors get those letters in the mail just like you. The only difference is that we have to correct it and then face our fellow Directors afterward. It makes us accountable to your cause and a reminder that no one should be “above the Law.”
PATROLLING CHANGES
Officer on Duty but might not always be in their Patrol Car; they have an opportunity to take training for Patrolling on Bicycles. So heads up - and keep our neighborhood safe for everyone.

In January, WCA Waste (WCA) became your trash collection provider. Trash service days are TUESDAY AND FRIDAY. Please have trash out at curb by 7:00 AM each pick up day. Heavy Trash and/or extra bags are picked up on both pick-up days, Tuesday and Friday. RECYCLING IS EVERY FRIDAY WCA takes great pride in our recycling program and efforts. Ensuring the best recycle program for our customers takes time and effort on both sides. Please remove caps, liquids and food products from inside the containers. Please only use the recycle bins for recyclable

materials, not as an extra trash container. WCA will collect papers, plastics, aluminum and tin cans that are placed within the provided recycling bin. If items exceed container capacity, please place them adjacent to bin. WCA will provide each current residence with one recycling bin. WCA will replace any bins that are defective or otherwise become unusable due to normal wear and tear. Theft, lost or additional bins can be replaced at $8 each. If you find items left in your bin that are not recyclable please dispose of these items in your trash container for the next scheduled pick up. Holidays When regular pick-up falls on a holiday, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th (Independence Day), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, the pick-up will be made on the next regular scheduled pick-up day. If your recycling day falls on a holiday it will be picked up the next week on your normal scheduled recycle day. Billing WCA will invoice each individual residence on a quarterly basis. Bills are due 30 days after receipt. Any residents failing to pay will receive a statement, have services discontinued and incur a $25 late/reconnect service fee. The purpose of Deed Restrictions in your neighborhood is to protect and enhance property values. They set guidelines for initial construction, perpetual maintenance and property use. As residents agree to abide by the majority view; the style and standards of a community are established and everyone benefits. For your information, restrictions are written by the developer before the first home is constructed and the Association is then charged with the on-going responsibility of enforcing them. They can be changed, but a very large percentage vote of homeowners is required to do so. Please let us know if you see a problem in the neighborhood. If you receive a deed restriction letter, please email Cory Freeman at cfreeman@scsmgmt.com or telephone 281-500-7114.

Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teenage girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)
We are a ladies daytime chorus with approximately 30 members. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 30 years. We sing old favorites and contemporary tunes arranged in the barbershop style. The four parts creating the barbershop sound are Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass. We rehearse Friday mornings from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Treemont Retirement Center located at 2501 Westerland, off Westheimer and Gessner. We love to have visitors and even more when you decide to join our chorus. We perform two types of shows each year. Currently we are singing a selection of patriotic songs, Johnny Mathis’ “Chances Are,” Perry Como’s “Hot Diggity Dog” and other fun tunes. You’ll be singing along with us before you know it. Our Christmas show includes old favorites, but also includes new fun tunes with props, narratives and choreography. We’ll begin preparing that program in October and book performances for the first two weeks in December. Come visit any Friday and see how much fun you can have with us. For additional information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or decibelle@comcast.net.

CONGREGATION OR AMI GREAT COMEDY NIGHT
As comedian Allan Sherman once said, “you don’t have to be Jewish”…… to perform comedy at Congregation Or Ami, West Houston’s only conservative Synagogue, but you do have to be funny. On Saturday, October 13th, nationally renowned comedian Ross Bennett, will perform his unique brand of very funny stand-up comedy at the Synagogue, in an authentic comedy club setting, at 8:30 PM. Bennett, a one time West Point Cadet who left the Academy to become a Comedian (“probably the greatest service I will ever do for my country”), has been performing comedy for over 30 years. Over the years, Ross Bennett has appeared at the Friar’s Club and on many TV programs including “Evening at the Improv.” Bennett also co-wrote and stars in the very funny play, PASTRAMI ON RYE WITH MAYO, about the last 4 comedians performing in the Catskills. The October 13th performance is open to the entire West Houston / Katy community. Please purchase your tickets early, as seating is limited. Congregation Or Ami is located at 3443 Wilcrest Drive Houston, TX 77042. Tickets, which are $36 each, include a wonderful selection of desserts, wine, soda and coffee. Premium seating and group tables are available. For additional information, please check online at www.oramihouston.org or call 713-334-4300.
