STREET LIGHTS
Your Association pays for your streetlights from your annual dues, whether they work or not. If a light is out in your area, please call 713-207-2222 and report it. Each light pole should have a number on it. When reporting the out or malfunctioning light, give them the pole number and closest street address. We want all of our lights to work. A lighted area is a safer area.
ARTICLES FROM RESIDENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE NEWSLETTER
We need your help. Anyone who has won awards or received special recognition from club, school, church, etc., please let us know. We need updates from Clubs, Swimmers, Band, Choir, Dance, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Athletics, etc. Have a fundraiser? Let your neighbors know about it. We have over 975 families and 975 stories to tell each month. So come on and let us know. Articles can be emailed to news@krenekprinting.com.
ABANDONED OR OVERGROWN PROPERTY
Do you live next door or near someone who has abandoned or left a house vacant? Has the grass grown two or more feet high? Are there rodents and snakes coming from their backyards? Would you like to get the property cleaned up? Can you see over the back fence from your property? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you are the one who needs to make the first move in getting this matter resolved. Williamsburg Colony Maintenance Association cannot call the Harris County Health Department at 713-439-6270, since we can only report on property adjacent to the front entrance and the Pool/ Clubhouse areas. We need someone who will give permission for the Health Department to come on their property to view violations of neighbors. So please, help us get rid of dangerous conditions in our subdivision.

MINUTES The minutes of the meeting held on June 13, 2012 were reviewed and approved as written. Minutes attached as Exhibit “B.” FINANCIAL Ken Rychlik presented the financial statement as of June 30, 2012. The money in the bank totaled $432,917.23. This includes checking and money market accounts and is the money to cover both operating and reserve expenses.

DELINQUENCY Total delinquency for the month ending June 30, 2012, was $86,095.07. BOARD ANNOUNCED DECISIONS MADE DURING EXECUTIVE SESSION During executive session, the Board reviewed each deed restriction matter. Total violations noted for the month were two hundred ninetytwo (292). The Board unanimously agreed to send two (2) violation matters over to the Association attorney for legal action. Those accounts have been properly noticed as required by Texas State Law. The Board instructed PCMI to find an independent pool contractor to the pool when pool season is over and have the pool reviewed for any major or minor repairs that might be needed in 2013. OLD BUSINESS There was no old business to come before the Board.
A resident asked if the Association would install mulch instead of sand in the playground area. The Board explained they would not do that due to the cost; however, they will have the landscape company level the sand and add sand if additional sand is needed. This resident also reported that some vehicles were left unlocked and things were stolen. The Board explained there are two deputies and the constable should have been called. It is believed there was a report done. Residents should always lock their vehicles. With no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 6:25 PM. Shelli Shaw, Secretary
NEW BUSINESS Pool /Clubhouse Rentals Ken Rychlik reported a problem with a rental recently. A resident had asked about renting the pool and clubhouse and asked to see the facilities; both the Board Member and the clubhouse coordinator showed the facilities. The only facility rented was the clubhouse. When the resident arrived they wanted to bring sixty (60) people in the pool area. This caused problems as they had not rented the pool and were told they could not have that many guests in the pool area. The resident not only called the Board Member but the coordinator and the pool company supervisor to strongly complain. The Board reiterated that the clubhouse is done by the facility
Williamsburg Colony
coordinator; the pool always must be rented through Sweetwater Pools. PCMI was instructed to make sure that is made very clear to both Krenek Printing for the newsletter and the webmaster so it could be posted on the web page.
CURFEW REMINDER
We would like to remind residents that being in Harris County means those under the age of 18 must not be roaming the streets after midnight. Any children spotted after midnight should be reported to the Constables at 281-463-6666. Most of the trouble we have in the subdivision that is attributed to mischievous minors occurs after the curfew. Once park hours are posted, anyone in the park after hours will be charged with trespassing.
GARAGE SALE SIGNS
To all Williamsburg Colony residents, garage sales are great, we can increase our attic and closet space, locate things we forgot that we had and most important, make a few extra bucks. The one thing that
October 2012
3
is sometimes forgotten is the placement and removal of our garage sale signs. So please neighbors, if and when you have a garage sale, let’s try and remember not to place garage sale signs on any of our community signs or poles. Also, remove signs that are staked when your garage sale is complete. Cleaner streets do make a difference.
RESIDENT COMMENT CARD
If you have noticed a problem in the subdivision you think needs taken care of, please complete a resident comment form and mail it in. We get a drive through once a month and sometimes we might miss something.

VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”
Free Estimates
(281) 905-1906
Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER
• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulfur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations. • Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

We are a ladies daytime chorus with approximately 30 members. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 30 years. We sing old favorites and contemporary tunes arranged in the barbershop style. The four parts creating the barbershop sound are Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass. We rehearse Friday mornings from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Treemont Retirement Center located at 2501 Westerland, off Westheimer and Gessner. We love to have visitors and even more when you decide to join our chorus. We perform two types of shows each year. Currently we are singing a selection of patriotic songs, Johnny Mathis’ “Chances Are,” Perry Como’s “Hot Diggity Dog” and other fun tunes. You’ll be singing along with us before you know it. Our Christmas show includes old favorites, but also includes new fun tunes with props, narratives and choreography. We’ll begin preparing that program in October and book performances for the first two weeks in December. Come visit any Friday and see how much fun you can have with us. For additional information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or decibelle@comcast.net.

The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

Those whose pets do not travel well or do not get along well with other animals are asked to bring a photo of those pets. For more information, you can contact the church office at 281-492-8520.

This is a joyful and fun event, recognizing and honoring the great bond and relationship between pets and their owners. Animals must be suitably restrained on a leash or in a cage. CONGREGATION OR AMI GREAT COMEDY NIGHT
As comedian Allan Sherman once said, “you don’t have to be Jewish”…… to perform comedy at Congregation Or Ami, West Houston’s only conservative Synagogue, but you do have to be funny. On Saturday, October 13th, nationally renowned comedian Ross Bennett, will perform his unique brand of very funny standup comedy at the Synagogue, in an authentic comedy club setting, at 8:30 PM. Bennett, a one time West Point Cadet who left the Academy to become a Comedian (“probably the greatest service I will ever do for my country”), has been performing comedy for over 30 years. Over the years, Ross Bennett has appeared at the Friar’s Club and on many TV programs including “Evening at the Improv.” Bennett also co-wrote and stars in the very funny play, PASTRAMI ON RYE WITH MAYO, about the last 4 comedians performing in the Catskills. The October 13th performance is open to the entire West Houston / Katy community. Please purchase your tickets early, as seating is limited. Congregation Or Ami is located at 3443 Wilcrest Drive Houston, TX 77042. Tickets, which are $36 each, include a wonderful selection of desserts, wine, soda and coffee. Premium seating and group tables are available. For additional information, please check online at www.oramihouston.org or call 713-334-4300.
