2012 HALLOWEEN PARTY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31ST AT 5:30 PM
The Villages at Lakepointe Board is pleased to announce this year’s Halloween Party. Festivities will begin on Halloween (Wednesday, October 31st) at 5:30 PM. As Halloween falls in the middle of the week, the board felt it would be most beneficial to serve a quick dinner at the pool clubhouse prior to Trick or Treating. Turkey and vegan style hot dogs will be served to all VAL Homeowner families in attendance. Feel free to come home; jump into costumes and head up to the pool for a quick dinner and fun before scaring up the neighborhood! We’ll be open for dinner from 5:30-6:30 PM, as well as providing a few treats for the youngsters to get the evening started. We look forward to seeing you and your family for a quick bite on Halloween Night!

You will be amazed how a little bit of money put away each month will accumulate quickly to pay for the repainting expense. If the mold and mildew shows real bad on your home, consider pressure washing to remove it until you are ready to repaint. Make our neighborhood beautiful.
DAMAGED WALKWAYS MUST BE FIXED
If you received a notice from AMI, please do not ignore it and fix the damaged or buckled walkway as soon as possible. If you disagree or want to express your views to the Board, please contact Juan Galvan at AMI (713-984-7250) and schedule a time at the monthly Board meeting held second Monday of every month.
COMMUNITY CLUB HOUSE
When was the last time you visited our club house and the pool? The newly painted club house and the well maintained pool area are a major asset to our community. We encourage all homeowners to utilize the facility and enjoy an evening there with the family.
YARD OF THE MONTH
The Winner for September 2012 Yard-Of-The-Month: Tammy Smith - 12531 Juniper Crossing.
The extreme drought conditions with intermittent soaking rains are very typical in Houston and may cause walkways overtime to move, buckle or crack. Also chances are that the trees and bushes around your yards, if not thoroughly irrigated, could make the root system expand under the concrete slab. This can result into buckling and cracking. Apart from the aesthetics, buckled or cracked walkways allow water to pool causing long-term damage to the slab. Standing water also invites mosquitoes and insects. And let’s not forget the legal issues: uneven slabs should be fixed because it’s a tripping hazard. Remember, it is the Homeowners’ responsibility to maintain and fix, if necessary, all concrete walkways on their property.
FENCE STAIN
CONGRATULATIONS!!! We thank all of you who voted for the monthly selection. This ends yard-of-the-month program for 2012. We will again resume the program beginning June 2013. Please maintain your yards during the fall and winter months, keep those trees and bushes trimmed and help us maintain neighborhood property values by making VAL a desirable place to live.
MOLD AND MILDEW ON HOME SIDING
Most homes in the neighborhood are now over 10 years old. This is when homes need repainting. We realize that this is a high expense item and general economic conditions currently not very pleasing.
2
Homeowners with a fence that faces the street must stain the visible section with approved color. The following are the approved stain brand and colors. You must pick from this list in order to comply with Deed Restrictions: Home Depot BEHR Exterior Wood Stain, Solid Color DP-396 Terra Cotta Or DP-529 Cappucino Both these are rated for 25-year protection of your fence. Once again, please note that you must choose one of these 2 colors.
October 2012
Villages at Lakepointe
No exceptions. The architectural committee through AMI will issue notices of deed violation to homeowners who fail to stain their fence. Once again, please be proactive and do not wait for the notice to arrive. Your effort to keep our neighborhood beautiful is highly appreciated.

COMMERCIAL • RESIDENTIAL

Repair/Remodel References Upon Request • Insured
• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations. • Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

WEST NILE VIRUS
Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES) requested the district’s assistance in distributing prevention and protection information about West Nile Virus. Outdoor temperatures remain high and warm weather means more mosquitoes. Although the number of people in Harris County contracting West Nile Virus is lower than in other parts of Texas, HCPHES has documented a rise of West Nile Virus in mosquitoes and birds. For your convenience, information is posted on the district website. If you have questions or need additional information, please go to www.hcphes.org and view 2012 West Nile Virus Response.

LAWN MAINTENANCE CYPRESS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL NOT AN AVERAGE CY-CHRISTIAN FOOTBALL PRACTICE
Early in each season, Warrior football players take a day of practice to do something a little different. They leave the pads in the lockers and load the bus to travel to another part of town. Over 50 football players, coaches and dads invade a neighborhood that could use more smiles and they host a football camp. This year, 30+ kids from Houston’s First Baptist Faith Center learned a little about football while having lots of fun. Scotty Sanders has worked at the Faith Center for years and was impressed with how the Cy-Christian players engaged and interacted with the kids. Coach Spenn’s goal for his coaches is for them to be transformational. He said, “To do this, we have to think outside the box. Some may see it as a loss of a practice, but the reality is that the impact on the team will have a far greater value than running a few extra plays in a practice.” Many of our players were greatly impacted and will remember days like this for a lifetime. It was evident that the kids from the neighborhood had a great time based on the smiles on their faces. The love of Christ was shared through the game of football and that is the definition of true success.

BROTHERS There is something special about being able to play football with your brother. The Warriors took the field for the home opener with five sets of brothers among the 46 team members. When the players are asked for words to describe our team, one word that often comes up is brotherhood. It is truly becoming that, both on and off the field, but for ten players in particular, it runs very deep. CY-CHRISTIAN TO HOST K-12 FALL PREVIEW On Thursday, November 8th, from 7-8:30 PM, prospective families will be given the opportunity to visit Cypress Christian School to gather information and tour of the campus. The Houston Family Arts Center received the Gem of a Theater Award for consistently providing superior theater in its own handsome theater, tucked away in a strip mall in northwest Houston. HFAC rents the nearby 456-seat Berry Center Theater twice a year for large musical productions. This year it outdid itself by commissioning and then producing Death by Design, a comedic mystery drama, from noted playwright Rob Urbinati and the result was a most entertaining success. HFAC also produced the world premiere of the musical Kissless and raised $144,000 to enter it in the prestigious New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF) and run it off-B’way for several weeks.

Kimberly AKimbo, By David Lindsay-Abaire, Directed by Ron Jones, November 29-December 15, 2012, STUDIO 101 (1824 Spring Street, Houston 77007). Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teenage girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed.

Bishop Marc Calvert, who ministers to one of these congregations, said, “Members of the Church in Fairfield have met in a church building in Waller for about 20 years. As Fairfield has grown and developed, so also has the number of Church members in this area. There are now approximately 250 Latter-day Saints living in the Fairfield community and they are looking forward to worshiping much closer to home.” The new red and beige brick structure has a traditional architectural style accented with Texas stone. The facility will include a chapel (sanctuary) for Sunday worship services, classrooms for gospel study and a gymnasium with a hardwood basketball court. When completed, the building will also host youth activities on Wednesday evenings, including meetings for several Church-sponsored troops of the Boy Scouts of America. Submitted By Chris Fults

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through October. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
