We love dogs, yes we do... We love our community and so should you!

Besides being a nuisance, unleashed dogs and uncollected dog waste is a serious problem for our Association. Next time you’re tempted to let your dog roam free or leave your dog’s droppings on the lawn, please remember these facts: 1. The Environmental Protection Agency is becoming aggressive about enforcing the Clean Water Act. Our Association could be fined if dog waste goes uncollected. 2. Unleashed dogs are not more likely to defecate in neighbor’s yards. Uncollected dog waste may lead to a special assessment. If fined by the EPA, the Association could face a potential special assessment that would be levied against all members - not just dog owners.

3. The appearance and quality of the common areas are known to affect home sales - not just for how much they sell, but how quickly. 4. The more residents complain about dog waste, the more time the manager must spend on enforcement rather than serving the Association. 5. Uncollected dog waste spreads disease and attracts rodents who feed on pet waste. We love dogs - we really do. We also love our community! That is why the Association is committed to enforcing the county leash law so all residents may enjoy our community. According to the U.S. Humane Society, an unleashed dog has an average life span of less than four years! Allowing your dog to run free threatens your dog’s health and welfare and the happiness it brings to you. We trust we can count on you for voluntary compliance with the leash law. We don’t like to call animal control, but we won’t have any choice if your dog is running free.

at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running

Please note: the following is what the American Egg Board says on using raw eggs:
With eggs and all other raw foods from animals, there is a small possibility of Salmonella food poisoning. The risk is greater for those who are pregnant, elderly or very young and those with medical problems, which have impaired their immune systems. These individuals should avoid raw and undercooked animal foods. Healthy people need to remember that there is a very small risk and treat eggs and other raw animal foods accordingly. Use only properly refrigerated, clean, sound-shelled, fresh, grade AA or A eggs. Avoid mixing yolks and whites with the shell. Refrigerate broken-out eggs, prepared egg dishes and other foods if you won’t be consuming them within an hour.

• Brown patch will continue to plague St. Augustine lawns as nights get cooler and humidity and rain continue. Discolored circles will appear in low areas almost overnight. Apply a fungicide recommended for brown patch according to label directions. Avoid walking through brown-patched turf. It spreads easily from the bottom of your shoes. If brown patch appears in the same lawn areas every year, add an inch or two of sandy topsoil to eliminate those low spots. • Fertilize St. Augustine turf with a winterizing formula to promote root growth over the winter months. Lower your lawn mover blades now and mow on a schedule that cuts no more than one-third of the grass blade away. • As chrysanthemums and other perennials finish blooming, cut flowering stalks to the ground to permit all strength to be used in making root growth. • Feed roses lightly, but avoid nitrogen fertilizers. Do not prune now. Keep up spraying program and water deeply. • Remove dead foliage and plant debris to help eradicate insects and disease organisms. Thin out and transfer volunteer seedlings. Beds made now will benefit by weathering before being planted. If soil is heavy, dig six inches deep, leave rough, cover with gymsum and strawy manure, water and allow to mellow. • Bananas are more likely to bear fruit if the trunk does not die back in winter. Cut banana stalks back to six feet, wrap with newspaper and burlap. • Continue mulching for winter. Build up a thick top mulch to protect roots from freezing and winter drying. Don’t throw away those pine tree needles; they make great acidic mulch for azaleas, gardenias and next Spring’s impatiens. • Place pansies in beds after weather has cooled. Use a little blood meat mixed in soil under each plant. • Now is the best time to plant trees and shrubs.

281-391-SOLD (7653) www.lizcarter.com Our Family Serving Your Family Since 1976

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, can be thrilling and stressful all at the same time. With stores offering drastically marked-down prices on in-demand items on Black Friday, Thanksgiving Day sales bring big crowds and long lines are to be expected. To successfully make it through the mall without being pummeled by other moms looking for a good deal, we have some tips and tricks to make your holiday shopping spree a little easier: Weeks Before Black Friday: • Make a list of the must-have products that you are shopping for this holiday season, including the names of the people for whom you are shopping. This will make your day more organized and will reduce the number of unnecessary purchases that you make. • Sign up for store email updates so that you will be among the first to know what will be on sale. • Print out any online coupons you may have. • Sign up for free store club cards that offer discounts or coupons. Stores like Barnes & Noble offer such programs. • Consider outlet shopping. The Day Before Black Friday: • Eat a lot of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and pumpkin pie. This will not help your shopping, per se, but will make you feel happy and satisfied. • Get a good’s night sleep the night before. Thanks to all that food in your belly it shouldn’t be too hard to fall asleep. The Day Of Thanksgiving Day Sales: • Know exactly the time that the stores you want to hit are open and go to the store that has the best deals and/or the gift you want to get the most first. Be there at least a half-hour before it opens if the gift

is popular. • Leave the kids at home; this is not a day to worry about handholding and good behavior. • Be caffeinated and full - don’t shop on low energy and an empty stomach. • Pack snacks so that you don’t have to stop your marathon-shopping day to grab some grub from the food court. • Bring along a MP3 player or portable CD player to help pass the time when you are waiting to pay for your finds. • Don’t worry about purchasing little gifts today, such as stocking stuffers, but rather focus on gifts that are bigger, harder to find and more expensive. • Consider this a good day to look for that new winter coat or little black dress you need. Clothing sales are usually very good on Black Friday, because so many people are already in the stores looking for toys and gifts. • If a product is not available, but the store offers a rain check, take it. Make sure that when you cash in your rain check you are getting the price that the product was listed at for that day. www.kaboose.com
