NOTES FROM THE BOARD

Our landscapers are doing a great job for us and we are continuing to work with them to further improve the look of the neighborhood. Brinton Court: Many of you are aware of the infringement of the deed restrictions on Briton Court. Your HOA Board is aware of this and action has been taken to restore the property as it was so it will be in compliance with the deed restrictions. If you want to alter the facade of your home you must get approval from your HOA Board. You need to submit your plans and a sample of all materials to be used to the HOA Board or AMI to get approval. You must have written approval before work can be started. The 2013 budget has been set. If you want to review it you can access it on the Copper Village website or go to AMI. As the holidays are approaching your HOA Board wishes you a Happy Holiday season. Don’t forget the Christmas holiday decorating contest. Judging and prizes will be awarded the week of December 16th. We’re looking forward to some beautifully decorated homes.

November 2012 COPPER VILLAGE WEBSITE

Bear with us as AMI continues to update and populate the Copper Village website. It was noted and reported by some of our homeowners that previously listed information was not available on the new website. We apologize for the oversight and will work to put all information on the upgraded website so that our homeowners can stay informed of our community activities. If you have recommendations for improvements or note that information is missing, please notify AMI (713-932-1122) or the Copper Village Board of Directors (CopperVillageCA-0296@amitx.com).

2013 ASSESSMENT FEES

Planning is underway to distribute the 2013 assessment fees (annual homeowner dues) in the month of November 2012. As identified above, there is no planned increase over the 2012 homeowner dues of $590. Payment of assessment fees are due on January 1, 2013 and will be considered late after January 31, 2013.

Please Help Do Your Part

Each week AMI and CV Deed Restriction/ARC Committee conduct an inspection of the neighborhood to identify where deed restriction violations may exist. If you receive a notice, please take action to remedy the issue as soon as possible. Right now our most common issue is lawn maintenance. Please help by ensuring lawns are regularly mowed and edged. This small effort keeps our community looking top-notch and the overall community appearance affects everyone’s property values. If you have vegetation growing on or near your fence and that fence faces a common area or roadway, please ensure that vegetation is trimmed back and does not grow through, over or under the fence. This will ensure a uniform and attractive appearance for our subdivision when seen from affected streets and walkways. Keeping the vegetation out of fencing also helps to get the maximum life out of the fencing materials.

Garbage Service Issues

The Copper Village Board of Directors has received a number of calls and emails from homeowners identifying issues with neighborhood garbage service. These issues range from missed pick-ups to damaged garbage cans, spilled trash and everything in between. Unfortunately, the CV Board of Directors has little to no authority in these matters. If any homeowner has an issue with garbage service, they should call Waste Management direct at 713-695-4055 to voice your complaint and request corrective action.

Neighborhood Security

Over the past months the Copper Village Board of Directors and Association Management, Inc. (AMI) have received calls reporting break-ins and vandalism in the neighborhood. If you see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1. Please direct all non-emergency calls first and foremost to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office: 713-221-6000. On-line reporting of some crimes can be accomplished through the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Online Police Reporting System at www.hcso.hctx.net. The Copper Village Board of Directors and AMI appreciate your notifying us of criminal activity in the subdivision, but please call Harris County Sheriff’s Office, file a report and let’s get these criminals out of our neighborhood.

Leash Laws Harris County animal control regulations state:

A. “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow any dog or cat to become a stray. B. The custodian of every dog or cat is responsible for any behavior of a dog or cat under the provisions of these Regulations.” Restraint is defined as “The control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question; or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle; or 3. When it is on the premises of the custodian and the animal does not have access to a sidewalk or street.” Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by may be very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Please help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also protect the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact: Harris County Animal Control: 281-999-3191. Also, please be responsible pet owners and pick up after your pets in order to keep our sidewalks, paths, lawns and park areas a place we can enjoy without worrying about where we step or what we step on.

TRASH Reminder

Expires 1-1-13

2

Expires 1-1-13

On non-trash days, the garbage cans and waste management containers are to be placed out of visual sight (inside your garage or behind your fence). If you do not follow this procedure, you are in violation of Copper Village deed restrictions. Please remember that our community receives garage-door pickup for trash – there is no need to drag your garbage cans to the curb! Simply place your trash by your garage door and Waste Management will do the rest. Bulky items (yard trimmings, etc.) and recycling still need to be placed at the curb. Please leave the sidewalks unobstructed for the pedestrians in our community.

Parking in the Street

Ever wish you could have access to weather conditions right in your backyard? Now you practically can with an individual weather reporter right in our neighborhood. Find it at this website: www.wunderground. com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KTXHOUST159

Residents are asked to refrain from parking in the street whenever possible. Aside from creating a traffic safety hazard, it may also be difficult for your neighbors to enter and exit their driveways.

Have You Returned Your IRIS Registration Form?

CenterPoint Energy maintains streetlights throughout our community. To report a streetlight outage, visit the website below: www.centerpointenergy.com/services/electricity/business/ electricsafety/reportastreetlightoutage/

If not, what are you waiting for? The Immediate Response Information System (IRIS) will be used to send reminders to residents of upcoming community events as well as distribute emergency information such as boil water notices, evacuation information or other public safety issues. Thus far approximately 50% of Copper Village residents have returned the registration form. All residents are encouraged to register. If you’ve misplaced your form, please contact Trinh Basarabescu (713-984-7217) at AMI.

Trees and Sidewalk Maintenance

Homeowners are reminded that they are responsible for ensuring trees growing on their property (this includes trees planted on corner lots that are not in the front of the property) are properly trimmed and do not hang low over sidewalks or the street. In addition, homeowners are responsible for maintaining sidewalks along their property. Homeowners could be held liable for any injury that occurs as a result of overhanging limbs or sidewalk deterioration.

We are still in need of volunteers to assist with development and implementation of a Neighborhood Watch Program. Residents expressed strong interest in this program during the meetings held the beginning of this year, however the board has been unable to get the program off the ground. To volunteer please email darla_king@ sbcglobal.net

Copper Village

CenterPoint typically completes the repair within 48 hours. You will be asked to provide: • a pole number for the non-functioning lights you want to report (it’s located approximately 6 to 8 feet up the side of the pole) • contact information (in case more information is needed to locate a streetlight) • an email address (if you want feedback regarding your repair request) • the number of streetlights you would like to report

If you witness individuals vandalizing community property or behaving in a suspicious manner, please contact the Harris County Sheriff’s department as soon as possible; their main phone number is 713-221-6000. If all of us remain vigilant we can take the necessary actions to protect our community property – and keep your costs as low as possible!

It takes a lot of community volunteers to put on an event that is as well-run and organized as the Cypress Hoops Invitational. “Instrumental in last year’s event were John Fox, Fox and Bubela and Leslie Martone, who is now President of the Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce and sponsors such as the event’s underwriter, North Cypress Medical Center,” said Hull.

THIRD ANNUAL CYPRESS HOOPS INVITATIONAL

Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) is gearing up for their highly anticipated Cypress Hoops Invitational Tournament to be held for the third year December 6 through 8, 2012. Twenty-four high school varsity level teams, including those from Cy-Fair ISD and outside the district, will compete over the three day event at various high schools with the championship games held at the Berry Center. Joining the tournament for the first time this year will be two teams from outside the Houston area. “A team from Crowley and one from South Grand Prairie will be traveling to Houston for the event,” said Teresa Hull, event co-chair. “This is so exciting because it means that word has gotten out about the high level of organization and quality of our tournament. This will help us continue to build state recognition and gives us great potential to grow,” she said. The tournament was started by community member Eric Burg and modeled after an extremely successful tournament held in Pasadena. Burg, who played basketball in Cy-Fair ISD, wanted a way to showcase the talent and facilities in Cy-Fair ISD and the tournament grew from there.

HEARTWORM TEST

In a nail biter championship game between Klein and Cypress Falls last year, Klein pulled ahead in the last moment of the game and won the tournament. “These games are so fun to watch,” said Teresa. “We are hoping to attract many spectators to cheer for the kids since ticket prices are so reasonable (just $2 for students and $3 for adults). We want a lot seats in the seats!” she said.

Last year the tournament raised $17,161.58. All proceeds raised through entry fees, game tickets and sponsorships go to the Foundation’s “Donate to Educate” program, which provides college scholarships for district students as well as staff development grants to CFISD. For more information about ways to participate, contact Marie Holmes at 281-807-3591 or marie@thecfef.org (email).

SALUTE TO OUR HEROES - CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES

The Foundation will kick off it’s fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor.

A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials.

LSC-CyFair offers affordable and flexible options:

Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior.

Weekend College, online and evening classes, workforce certificates, Dual Credit for high school students, December mini-mester courses and more!

Spring registration begins Nov. 7!

CFISD SCHOOLS EARN TEXAS HONORS CIRCLE AWARDS

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and 30 of its schools were honored as recipients of the Texas Comptroller’s 2012 Texas Honors Circle Award, recognizing schools and districts that are achieving academic success through cost-effective operations. Award recipients achieved strong academic performance while spending relatively little compared to their peers. Only 329 school campuses statewide received this distinction for high rankings in the 2012 Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST), meaning CFISD accounted for 9.1 percent of all Honors Circle campuses statewide. CFISD was one of only 43 Texas districts to earn the five-star rating from the office of Susan Combs, Texas Comptroller, for academic and financial performance. A five-star rating reflects the strongest relative academic progress combined with the lowest relative spending. Elementary campuses receiving the award achieved a five-star FAST rating, while middle and high-school campuses tapped for the honor achieved at least a 4.5-star FAST rating. Go to www.cfisd.net/newsmedia/press/2012/0925circle.htm to see a list of the recognized schools.

CFISD BANDS EARN MARKS OF EXCELLENCE FROM FOUNDATION OF MUSIC EDUCATION

Three high school bands and three middle school bands have been selected as Mark of Excellence winners by the Foundation of Music Education. CY-FAIR ISD & VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS (VIPS) Where “Volunteers are Treasures!”

though, you will find that in all the things volunteers do, there is an element of discovery. They find not only what a child can do, but what their own treasured gift might be. And yes, there has probably even been an encounter with a dragon or two along the way. Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is so fortunate to be able to draw from such a great diversity of skills and knowledge in our community. VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) in Cy-Fair ISD center the attention of their service on supporting students and staff and making a significant contribution to the education of children. These jewels in our district give freely of their time and resources and have an impact on the academic and personal development of Cy-Fair ISD students. If you are interested in being involved in Cy-Fair schools as a volunteer and making a difference or would like more information, please contact Pam Scott, Partners in Education Director at, 281894-3950.

Father and Son Raise Flags Each Weekday at CCS Michael Shassere and his son, Nicolas, began raising the American, Texas and Christian flags at CCS each weekday morning at the beginning of last year, when Nicolas needed a service project for Cub Scouts. Mr. Shassere writes, “Nicolas enjoyed this so much that he asked Elementary Principal Mr. White if this could be ‘our service to CCS.’ As we all know, parents are rushed in the mornings getting children ready for school, carpooling and off to class. With this project, Nicolas and I enjoy focused father-son time, sharing in the fact that even such a small act is an act of selflessness and as such, honors God, our country, our state and all the staff at CCS.”

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through November. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

Make Plans to Visit the Cornerstone UMC Live Nativity

The Cornerstone United Methodist Church (CUMC) will be hosting a Live Nativity on Saturday, December 8th, from 6-8 PM, as we transform the front area of the church into scenes that will depict the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. There will be shepherds with their sheep, the Three Wise Men and a camel, Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus in a manger and an angel portraying this holy event. You will be able to visually embrace this event as you drive through, read scriptures and listen to music that tell of the wondrous night. In the past, we have had several hundred cars that drive through to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ. We are located at 18081 West Road at Barker Cypress behind the CVS. For directions or more information, please go to our website at www.cornerstoneumc.org or call the church at 281-859-4141.

As interest in Relay for Life grew in the Houston area, the American Cancer Society began forming events in local communities and the first Cy-Fair Relay for Life committee was formed in 2004. This is our 9th year in Cy-Fair and our goal is to reach the $1 Million Dollar Mark. We are very close and only need $150,000 to meet our goal and with YOUR help, we can make this goal a reality!! 100% of our profits go to ACS to use for research and other programs. With more than 1,000 participants in last year’s Relay, we know that we can grow even bigger this year! Beethoven’s Wig -
6 PM, Saturday, November 3, 2012
. Beethoven’s Wig is the classical music sensation for the whole family! The brainchild of creator, lyricist, producer and lead vocalist Richard Perlmutter, Beethoven’s Wig is zany lyrics set to the greatest hits of classical music. It provides a fun foundation for classical music that will last a lifetime. Filled with fact and fancy about the world’s most notable composers and their compositions, Beethoven’s Wig is the perfect blend of high brow and hi-jinks, lunacy and learning. Ask us about our Scout ticket rate!
Tickets: $8-15.
Ars Lyrica presents ‘Pypeth the Watche!’
- 3 PM, Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
During the Renaissance and for the next few centuries, the Stadtpfeifer (or “Wait” in England and “Piffaro” in Italy) bands were musical watchmen who proved their watchfulness by piping loudly all over cities during the night, waking residents to announce that all was well. In honor of this little-known (but deeply influential) renaissance Stadtpfeifer tradition, the Shepherd School Crumhorn Collective will present a lively program of German, English, Flemish and French polyphony and dance music, written by and for 16th century civic minstrels.
Tickets: $6 - $12. All Children’s Series concerts are free and no tickets are distributed.

Kimberly Akimbo is a play written in 2000 by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. Its title character is a lonely teenage girl suffering from a disease a lot like progeria, that causes her to age 4 and a half times as fast as normal. Thus, Kimberly is trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman. She meets another misfit (a teenage boy) and the two form an attachment to one another that borders on attraction. The situation is not helped by Kimberly’s rapidly deteriorating health. Soon Kimberly’s family gets mixed up in some crazy money schemes and the family gets emotionally destroyed. November 29-December 15, 2012, (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday). All performances begin at 8 pm. Price- $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. Cypress UMC Goes Back to School A Church’s Challenge to Volunteer

Not content with giving $8,000 to a local elementary school last February, the members of Cypress UMC are now volunteering hundreds of hours on CFISD campuses. The congregation was challenged by their senior pastor, Jerome Brimmage, to volunteer a total of 2,000 hours within ninety days. In addition to volunteering on various campuses, Cypress UMC has adopted a second school, Millsap Elementary. The church previously adopted Adam Elementary in the spring of 2011. As the beginning of school approached, the church donated, delivered and organized enough school supplies in August for 250 students, to be split between Millsap and Adam.

Copper Corners Service Unit is planning a number of events for the coming year. Girl Scout events begin with girl planning, so we’ll be recruiting girls from the service unit to bring their suggestions and ideas to these planning boards. Some of these events will be Daisy Day and Brownie Day, for those two age levels, as well as an event for older girls (Junior level and above). Leader/Daughter Weekend is a chance for busy leaders to spend time with their OWN daughters. Past Leader-Daughter weekends have included a miz of camp activities with the extra fun of visiting Wimberley on the way home. We are also planning a “Me and My Guy” event later in the year, when girls will have a special evening with their special “guy” (dad, grand-dad, other relative or special friend). It is always a memorable event, whether it involves a formal dance or a baseball game! If you have plans to visit the State Fair of Texas, be sure to see the Girl Scout exhibition area. Those who have say it is very impressive and quite an experience!

GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINO COUNCIL COPPER CORNERS SERVICE UNIT

Copper Corners Service Unit would like to thank all those adults and older girls who volunteered to help at our Rally Nights in September! Special thanks to Susan Bartos and Diane Massie who coordinated the events. We formed 13 new troops and many of our new leaders have already been attending their first training sessions! These new leaders also participated in an Investiture ceremony at our service unit meeting in October, where they received their Girl Scout pins. We also enjoyed a special birthday cake to honor both Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouting in the United States (born on Oct 31st) and Girl Scouting’s 100th birthday.

Copper Village

Don’t miss out on the fun! It is never too late to join Girl Scouts! Girl Scouting is open to all girls between the ages of 5 (must be in kindergarten) to 18, who are willing to live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girls may join at any time and at any level and no previous scouting experience is required. Don’t forget that many of our most exciting opportunities are available for older girls! Copper Corners Service Unit serves girls in the residence areas for Birkes, Fiest and Lowery Elementary schools, Aragon and Labay Middle schools and the corresponding high schools. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome. Please contact Diane Massie at 281550-9148 for more information. The website for Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is www.gssjc.org

25250 NW FREEWAY, SUITE 200 • CYPRESS, TEXAS 77429 • 281.463.4131 • FAX: 281.855.8204 GIVE AN HOUR™ NETWORK Provides Free Counseling to Troops and Families

Since September 11, 2001, 1.8 million troops have been deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Persian Gulf, with 17 percent of returning troops suffering traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder. Given the military culture’s emphasis on confidence, strength and bravery, many service members are reluctant to expose personal vulnerabilities to professional counselors. Give an Hour™ provides services that are separate from the military establishment, offering options to service members who might otherwise fail to seek or receive appropriate care. Give an Hour™ is a nonpartisan, nonprofit national network of mental health professionals providing free counseling services to returning troops and their families. Give an Hour™ offers services to veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and their family members. Family members are loosely defined to include married or unmarried partners, parents, siblings, aunts/uncles—anyone connected to the veteran who is suffering a psychological effect related to the veteran’s service. Banyan Counseling Network has an office located near the North Cypress Medical Center and is trained to provide individual and family counseling. Family support groups are also currently forming. People interested in receiving services through Give an Hour™ are encouraged to call 281-855-1982 or log on to www.banyancounseling. com, (click Military Families link) or www.giveanhour.org to determine availability or to locate another provider in your area.
