If you will not be able to pay the balance in full by January 31, 2013, please contact management to request a formal payment plan in writing prior to the due date to avoid additional late fees or interest.

RULES OF THE MONTH
As a reminder, Aberdeen Green is a deed restricted community with many rules each resident must follow in an effort to help maintain and increase our property values. So each month, we will provide information on the most noted rule violations from the prior month to help provide an extra reminder of our responsibilities as homeowners and good neighbors. STREET PARKING: Not only is continually parking in the street a violation of the rules, it causes a nuisance to your neighbors and safe access for traffic. Please utilize your driveway and garage to park your vehicles consistently. We understand you will have guests visit your home, but please also make an effort to use as much of your driveway as possible and remind your guests to be courteous to your neighbors when parking. PET ETIQUETTE: We understand your pets are very important to you and we want to be a pet friendly community. We understand your pets are very important to you and want to be a pet friendly community. However, we have received many complaints that there are pet owners not following the rules of the community when it comes to pet etiquette. Please, be aware and make a conscious effort to the adhere to the following guidelines: • Only two pets per household - refer to governing documents regarding height and weight limits. • Pick up pet waste and discard properly. • Do not allow pets to roam around the community unrestrained - it’s the law! This includes cats too! • Do not allow dogs to bark continuously disturbing neighbors.

GARDENING TIPS FOR JANUARY
• Birds: Provide food and fresh water. More birds die from lack of water than from lack of food. • Cacti: Semi-dormant now. Reduce watering. • Camellias: Plants may be moved. Pick up and discard fallen blooms. • Cultivation: Changes in design may now be made, new beds dug and old ones rebuilt. Correct defects in drainage. Incorporate gypsum into heavy soils: repeat in three weeks. Dig granite dust, rock phosphate and quantities of organic matter into soil. Allow time for settling before planting. • Fertilize: Daylilies, spuria, Louisiana and bearded irises with complete fertilizer. Give strawberries 1 teaspoon ammonium sulfate, keeping six inches away from plant. Fertilize pansies with manure tea or blood meal. Water in. • Fruits: Plant fruit trees. Mulch figs with grass or straw to prevent freeze damage to crown. • House Plants: Water, when surface soil is crumbly dry. Wash dust off leaves to open pores. Mist often. Inspect for diseases and insects. Reduce water for poinsettias. • Lawns: Remove thatch aerate, and feed with low nitrogen mixture. • Pests: For petal blight prevention, spray azaleas and camellias as flowers open. Spray for scale with dormant oil solution if temperature will be above 35˚ and below 85˚ for next 48 hours. Always read and heed manufacturer s directions before spraying. • Propagation: Ivy cuttings root easily this month and next. Root cuttings of shrubs in mixture of loam and coarse sand; keep damp and semi-shaded until rooted. • Prune: Fruit trees in advance of new growth. Prune to groom and shape. Do not remove too much. Remove dead wood from trees and shrubs before spring buds swell, but do not prune spring bloomers. Prune crape myrtles. Prune nandina and others of similar growth habit by cutting unwanted canes out at base of plant. • Roses: Annual pruning about the middle of February, just before the spring buds break. To prevent later appearance of disease in the old beds, keep garden clean of debris and weeds. Complete preparation of new beds for roses.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt and pepper. Slowly whisk in the vegetable oil until the dressing emulsifies. CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HONORS MILITARY HEROES
The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor. This year our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling. Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country. The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission. The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed December 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials. Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior. The crisp winter air teems with the aura of hospitability. The Saturday sun still is still rising from its sleep, but the teenage volunteers are up and about, serving pancakes to those willing to service the 100 million women who are affected by maternal/neonatal tetanus (MNT) annually. It is the 2012 Eliminate Pancake Breakfast, and each family packed into the small Applebee’s restaurant is there for a good cause. On December 8th, the Cypress Falls Key Club held its annual Applebee’s Eliminate Pancake Breakfast in order to eradicate maternal/neonatal tetanus from 32 different countries. The studentled organization has spent much of its fall semester dedicated to raising money for The Eliminate Project, through the breakfast, car washes, trick-or-treating for UNICEF and bake sales.

The club members welcomed the advent of the 2012 - 2013 academic year by setting a fundraising goal for The Eliminate Project. In order to raise awareness amidst the school, the officer Board decided to present videos about The Eliminate Project at general meetings. The members were touched by the young families’ hardships and became determined to make a change. Thanks to the owner of a local Applebee’s venue, the club compiled a majority of its fundraised earnings during the Eliminate Pancake Breakfast. Key Club volunteers spent weeks prior to the event selling tickets and spreading awareness. On the day of the event, the members served as waiters and advertisers; proceeds from the event were donated to The Eliminate Project. The Eliminate Pancake Breakfast took the Key Club one step closer to its final fundraising objective. District Project Chair, Saksena, created and slowly filled a poster of a syringe to document growth toward the goals. With all of the money raised from the fall semester, the Key Club has filled the syringe and achieved its goal. Through its efforts, it has raised $1,311 and in turn, saved 730 lives. The Key Club has reached success for 730 mothers, their future children and their children’s future children. They’ve all been saved. The Santa hat-wearing, pancake stack-eating, early-rising group of volunteers has done its part in guaranteeing a shot at life for 100 million victims. With continued service to The Eliminate Project, maternal/neonatal tetanus will be eliminated from the world - one syringe at a time. The Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club will celebrate its 26th Anniversary Season by hosting its annual free information/registration breakfast on Saturday, February 2, 2013, for all boys, girls and their parents who are interested in joining for the 2013 track season. The breakfast starts promptly at 8:30 AM at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center Forum located at 6823 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX, 77379. Troop 16150, a new kindergarten Daisy troop, has already started to create Girl Scout memories. The girls welcomed parents, family and friends to their investiture ceremony and celebrated with a party. They had learned and recited the Girl Scout promise and sang Girl Scout songs for their guests. They loved showing off their new Girl Scout pins and the promise circle that they earned at their very first troop meeting. Welcome to the New Year’s edition of “The Chronicles of Pack 445.” Pack 445 had a wonderful and eventful end to the year 2012. Once again, we joined the fun and participated in the annual Parade of Lights. The Scouts truly love decorating our floats and put a lot of time, pride and hard work into it. While the boys didn’t have to bundle up in their best winter clothes this year, it was still a very festive celebration.The boys also had their annual Pushmobile Races last month. Pushmobile is where one Scout sits in a homemade car and steers, while another Scout pushes from behind. A lot of hard work and preparation go into this event, but it is well worth it as the boys always have a great time!

The Heart of Relay: During the Relay for Life event, three ceremonies are held Survivors Lap: To start Relay, those who have survived their battle with cancer join together to walk a lap celebrating their victories over the disease. Luminaria Ceremony: At dark, the track is lined with candle-lit bags bearing the names of those who have been touched by or have lost their lives to cancer. Fight Back Ceremony: Before participants leave Relay, they make a personal commitment to help fight back against cancer in several ways. As interest in Relay for Life grew in the Houston area, the American Cancer Society began forming events in local communities and the first Cy-Fair Relay for Life committee was formed in 2004. This is our 9th year in Cy-Fair and our goal is to reach the $1 Million Dollar Mark. On Sunday, January 13th, during the 8:30 and 10:45 AM worship services as a part of the worship celebration, we will be including the Wesley Covenant Service from the United Methodist Book of Worship. The first usage of the Covenant Service by a meeting of Methodists was August 11, 1755. During the week before that event, Wesley had been encouraging the Society at Spitalfields to use the covenant as a “means of increasing serious religion which had been frequently practiced by our forefathers and attended with eminent blessing.” Several mornings before he actually introduced the liturgy, Wesley explained it again, talking about the manner of doing the covenant. Then on Friday, August 11th, Wesley “recited the tenor of the covenant proposed, in the words of that blessed man, Richard Alleine.” About 1800 people arose and gave testimony of their assent. “Such a night I scarce ever saw before. Surely the fruit of it shall remain forever.” Wesley’s motivation for using the service in 1755 came from two sources: (1) He had recently read Gillies’ Historical Collections which spoke of a solemn renewing of a covenant in Massachusetts in 1680 and (2) Richard Alleine (161181) whose influence had touched Wesley’s paternal grandparents and whose covenant had been used in Wesley’s family at Epworth. The use of this service proved so successful that it was used frequently, especially on New Year’s Day or the first Sunday in the New Year. Since September 11, 2001, 1.8 million troops have been deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Persian Gulf, with 17 percent of returning troops suffering traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder. Given the military culture’s emphasis on confidence, strength and bravery, many service members are reluctant to expose
personal vulnerabilities to professional counselors. Give an Hour™ provides services that are separate from the military establishment, offering options to service members who might otherwise fail to seek or receive appropriate care.
Give an Hour™ is a nonpartisan, nonprofit national network of mental health professionals providing free counseling services to returning troops and their families. Give an Hour™ offers services to veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and their family members. Family members are loosely defined to include married or unmarried partners, parents, siblings, aunts/uncles—anyone connected to the veteran who is suffering a psychological effect related to the veteran’s service. Banyan Counseling Network has an office located near the North Cypress Medical Center and is trained to provide individual and family counseling. Family support groups are also currently forming. How would you feel if you saved a kid’s life? StandUp For Kids is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk and homeless kids through volunteer outreach efforts. Our volunteers search the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. Every day throughout the US thirteen kids die on the streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent statistics Houston has up to 2,500 kids living on the streets at any given time. Texas has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S.

La Leche League is an international nonprofit, nonsectarian organization dedicated to providing education, information, support and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. Breastfeeding is a simple and natural process, but you may need support and information on the correct positioning of the baby at the breast, working and breastfeeding, avoiding problems and overcoming any difficulties that may occur. Knowing other women who have breastfed their babies can be helpful and reassuring. Having accurate, up-to-date information is also important. Attending La Leche League meetings can help you learn about breastfeeding from other nursing mothers. At these monthly meetings, mothers share not only their questions and concerns but also the benefits and joys of breastfeeding. Being in touch with La Leche League can give you the network of support you need. There are numerous meeting locations all over the Houston area.
