Deed Restrictions Reminders

Garage Sales: Two garage sales a year is the limit under Texas Law. The Limited Sales, Excise and Use Tax Act says that people who are not operating a business are permitted to have no more than two sales of their goods each year. If you exceed this amount, you will be treated as operating a business and you’ll need to obtain a sales tax permit from the state. A quick Internet search reveals that a number of Texas cities also have ordinances limiting garage sales and some don’t allow them at all. Houston has no such ordinance, however, according to the city’s website. Instead, the city relies on the state law. Businesses are not allowed in the community. Trash Can Containers: Trash cans are to be out of site and remain out of view at all times, it takes away from property values. Street Curbs: Curbs are homeowners’ responsibility to keep clean and free of debris, (i.e. leaves and trash). Keeping these clean will ensure less street flooding, trash being forced down and clogging sewer drains. Oil Stains: If you’re having difficulties getting the oil and grease stains out from your driveway, there are a few mixtures you can buy at an auto part store that is less than $10. These mixtures will help get the oil and grease stains in your driveway. Streetlights: HOA Assessments pay for streetlights, please report streetlight outages to: www.centerpointenergy.com/services/ electricity/residential/reportastreetlightoutage, you will need the six digit streetlight pole number and a nearby address when filing out the on line report.

DIRECTIONS: Pour the apple cider and maple syrup into a large stainless steel saucepan. Place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, orange peel and lemon peel in the center of a washed square of cheesecloth; fold up the sides of the cheesecloth to enclose the bundle, then tie it up with a length of kitchen string. Drop the spice bundle into the cider mixture. Place the saucepan over moderate heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cider is very hot but not boiling. Remove the cider from the heat. • Birds: Provide food and fresh water. More birds die from lack of water than from lack of food. • Cacti: Semi-dormant now. Reduce watering. • Camellias: Plants may be moved. Pick up and discard fallen blooms. • Cultivation: Changes in design may now be made, new beds dug and old ones rebuilt. Correct defects in drainage. Incorporate gypsum into heavy soils: repeat in three weeks. Dig granite dust, rock phosphate and quantities of organic matter into soil. Allow time for settling before planting. • Fertilize: Daylilies, spuria, Louisiana and bearded irises with complete fertilizer. Give strawberries 1 teaspoon ammonium sulfate, keeping six inches away from plant. Fertilize pansies with manure tea or blood meal. Water in.

The Foundation will kick off its fifth “Salute to Our Heroes” event on February 9, 2013 at the Omni Hotel Westside Houston. “Salute to Our Heroes” honors the brave men and women who have served to preserve our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event go to an endowment enabling graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The event will be generously underwritten by Earthcare Management and Kodiak Gas Services, as the Missing Man Underwriters. The Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital will be the Major General Sponsor.   This year our guest speaker is Steve Russell. LTC Steve Russell (Ret.) commanded the central unit responsible in the hunt and capture of Saddam Hussein. Through leadership and joint efforts across multiple teams, a large organization worked effectively to capture one of the world’s most notorious criminals. Russell is an American Hero. His proven leadership and problem-resolution techniques engage audiences through his storytelling.    Salute to Our Heroes has two purposes. First, to give tribute to our heroes - soldiers serving now, veterans and those who have been wounded or killed in action. We want to honor those who have served their country.   The second purpose is to raise funds for scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD students. Each year we give three scholarships per Cy-Fair ISD high school, and the number of high schools is growing. It has been a challenge keeping up with the demand, but CFEF is dedicated to this mission.   The inaugural event honors Jersey Village High School graduate 1st Lt. Jeremy E. Ray, who was killed December 20, 2007 while serving his country in Iraq. A CFEF endowment was established in Jeremy’s memory by an anonymous donor. Last year the 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Ray Community Service and Peace Award was presented to Klein Funeral Homes & Memorials.   Following tradition, the event will have the Missing Man Table & Honors Ceremony. The table will have empty table settings with chairs leaning up against the table as though saved for someone. The table settings have a single red rose displayed in a vase in reminder of the bloodshed for our country and the vase was tied with a red ribbon - a symbol of the continued pledge to shed blood for our country. A slice of lemon on the bread plate is a reminder of the bitterness of the loss of comrades in arms; a bowl of salt to symbolize the tears shed by family members of lost loved ones and glasses turned upside down indicate no one will sit there. Last year’s ceremony was performed by the 75th Army Division Honor Guard and was proceeded by Taps performed by William Veenstra, Cy-Fair High School Senior. CFISD students from five high schools won a variety of awards at the Journalism Education Association (JEA)/National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) 2012 National Convention in San Antonio Nov. 15th -18th.

In addition, five Cypress Lakes High School students who attended the convention received the Walsworth Publishing Company Scholarship. Only 75 students nationwide received the scholarship, which sponsors students to attend the convention.

Upward Baseball T-Ball, Kid & Coach Pitch at Bear Creek Baptist Church

We would like to invite children from 4 yrs (as of Sept. 1, 2012) to 5th grade to join us as we enjoy another season of T-Ball, Kid & Coach Pitch. We look forward to teaching your children the skills and watching them enhance their abilities. We will offer several evaluation days so we can check on their skills so we can even out the teams. The dates for these are February 25th, 26th and 28th, between 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM. Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club Registration on February 2nd

The Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club will celebrate its 26th Anniversary Season by hosting its annual free information/registration breakfast on Saturday, February 2, 2013, for all boys, girls and their parents who are interested in joining for the 2013 track season. The breakfast starts promptly at 8:30 AM at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center Forum located at 6823 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX, 77379. The free breakfast is the opportunity for youth athletes to register for the club’s 2013 spring/summer track season and to meet the Northwest Flyers coaches, staff and other new and returning athletes. Cornerstone Umc Wesley Covenant Service January 13, 2013

On Sunday, January 13th, during the 8:30 and 10:45 AM worship services as a part of the worship celebration, we will be including the Wesley Covenant Service from the United Methodist Book of Worship. The first usage of the Covenant Service by a meeting of Methodists was August 11, 1755. During the week before that event, Wesley had been encouraging the Society at Spitalfields to use the covenant as a “means of increasing serious religion which had been frequently practiced by our forefathers and attended with eminent blessing.” Several mornings before he actually introduced the liturgy, Wesley explained it again, talking about the manner of doing the covenant. Then on Friday, August 11th, Wesley “recited the tenor of the covenant proposed, in the words of that blessed man, Richard Alleine.” About 1800 people arose and gave testimony of their assent. “Such a night I scarce ever saw before. Surely the fruit of it shall remain forever.” Wesley’s motivation for using the service in 1755 came from two sources: (1) He had recently read Gillies’ Historical Collections which spoke of a solemn renewing of a covenant in Massachusetts in 1680 and (2) Richard Alleine (161181) whose influence had touched Wesley’s paternal grandparents and whose covenant had been used in Wesley’s family at Epworth. The use of this service proved so successful that it was used frequently, especially on New Year’s Day or the first Sunday in the New Year. EPIPHANY BINGO

Epiphany Bingo has been conducting bingo games on the west side since February 14, 1986. Epiphany conducts their bingo games every Friday night except holidays. There Is No Smoking Allowed During All Bingo Games. They have a jackpot game of $750. Maximum prize giveaways of $2,500, allowed by law, are given away every Bingo Night! They have security, lighted parking, big screen color monitor, computerized bingo equipment, snack bar, and large cash prizes. Profits are used for charitable outreach programs, building expansion, and payment towards debt. Epiphany Catholic Church conducts its bingo games at the Church Community Center, 1530 Norwalk Dr. (between Fry and Mason Roads, south of I-10 behind Nottingham Subdivision) off Highland Knolls every Friday night. At St. Bartholomew the Apostle Catholic Church in downtown Katy, “BINGO” is being played in our Parish Hall every Friday evening except Holidays.
