The Board would like to recognize one of the resident’s who lives on Spanish Needle Drive by sending him a special thank you. On several occasions I’ve seen this gentlemen taking an active role and caring about the appearance of the subdivision by picking up trash disposed of improperly. So with that being said, please remember to dispose of all trash properly, in an effort that he may be able to run in the subdivision without having to pick up other resident’s trash. Thanks for helping to keep the subdivision clean we appreciate everything you do!

Annual Holiday Decoration Contest The Board would like to thank all of the residents that participated in decorating for the holidays. The lights and decorations brought much enjoyment to all. So for the winners, 19235 Spanish Needle Dr, 19507 Spanish Needle Dr, 19219 Ruble and 19715 Red Root ;these resident’s received a $25 gift card, congratulations!! Please remember the deadline for removing all Christmas lights and decorations was January 21, 2013. 2013 Annual Maintenance Fee Friendly reminder that after January 31, 2013 your account was assessed a late penalty and interest will accrue. The Board members attended the annual Crime Stoppers meeting/ luncheon held in the downtown Houston area this past year. Westlake Place Home Owners Association will be submitting the application to becoming an active member in this organization. In the upcoming year, the Board will be attending different educational programs offered in our area, in effort to keeping the subdivision better informed about crime and crime prevention. There are still several cars parking at the entrances into the subdivision. Recently Precinct 3 posted no parking signs; please refrain from parking in these designated no parking areas. Community Center The Board is currently looking at new signs concerning rules and regulations to be posted at the community center in the near future! Community Center/Clubhouse, Pavilion Are available for usage by our resident’s and their guests. A $50 deposit for each one is required and refundable upon passing the exit inspection; contact Anita Ratliff at 832-814-7634. The Board will be evaluating the community center and pool for any needed repairs or upgrades prior to the spring season. Landscaping The Board is securing bids for the trimming of the trees in the cul-desacs and this project should be starting shortly. General Yard Maintenance Each homeowner/resident shall maintain the landscaping and improvements of his/her lot in a neat and attractive manner. The Board recognizes that several residents do an awesome job in maintaining the appearance of their home and it’s deeply appreciated. Curfew Most parents are unaware that Harris County has a curfew. Children under the age of 17 must be in at midnight (12 AM). Parent’s need to make sure that their children are at home the entire night. If children are caught wandering around at late hours after midnight, the Harris County Sheriff’s will give them a citation. This is a class C misdemeanor; both the child and the parent must appear in front of court and pay a fine. Usually it will take all day to take care of this and the fine may exceed $150.

Sheriff’s Office if you see any suspicious vehicles/persons in the neighborhood. Notify the post office and paper delivery when you plan to be out of town. If you are going away from home for an extended period of time, contact the management company with an updated phone number for your file in case of an emergency. You can also, fill out a vacation form with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Patrol Service Report The Association receives many reports of speeding drivers and drivers running stop signs in the community. Monitoring of stop signs have resulted in some citations issued and other citations for different traffic violations. For the safety of the community and residents walking, children playing, please follow the speed limit and make a full stop at each stop sign to ensure everyone’s safety. The deputy has been notified of the complaints/concerns voiced by the residents and will continue to monitor this activity. Take a second to look out for pedestrians crossing the streets, riding bikes, jogging, make sure you slow down while driving through our subdivision. Please remember you can call and inform Ms. Gail Mayfield our Security Supplement Liaison at 281-467-0548. Crime in the Subdivision Here are the reports given: • Reported that a vehicle was stolen form the subdivision and it was also reported to one of the Board members by the owners from Creek Bend that their vehicles had been stolen too. • Driver was arrested while driving under the influence. By now I’m sure you’ve seen the increase of law enforcement presence. So remember to abide by all traffic laws while driving through the subdivision. The Board’s number one priority is trying to keep the entire subdivision safer and informed. There has been an increase in criminal activity surrounding our subdivision this is being closely monitored by the Board and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Report any Suspicious Activities When you see suspicious activity and would like to file a report etc, call the non-emergency number. When a crime is in progress and or a human life is at risk call the 9-1-1. If at anytime someone observes a suspicious person or vehicle they should not hesitate reporting it to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Some resident may feel a sighting such as this may be “nothing,” yet, it is better to be safe than sorry. Again, let’s be the eyes and ears for the law enforcement. Reporting Crimes There have been several residents reporting crimes to the Board, which we encourage residents to continue this practice. The first thing a resident should do is contacting the Harris County Sheriff’s Office to file report. There are three ways to do this.

All residents must complete a home improvement form for all improvements, including but not limited to: repainting (even the same color), re-roofing, new siding, sheds or outbuildings, new garage doors and basketball goals. The ACC approval must be given in advance prior to the work being started. We have specific guidelines for sheds and outbuildings. Call ACMP 281-855-9867 to request a form. Trash Pick-up Stickers

FYI: Waste Management will not pick up your trash if your account is delinquent. Please, keep your account current to avoid disruption of service. Another issue might be if you’re not putting out a trash can and only trash bags Waste Management may not pick it up without the sticker being present.

The trash pickup sticker you receive each quarter shows you have paid your invoice and are a valid customer. It contains your address and the expiration date. The sticker is designed to be placed on the trashcan please do not place these stickers on your mailbox. These stickers occasionally won’t stick even to a garbage can; use a heavyduty tape when this occurs. Trash will not be picked up if the sticker is not on the trashcan and they will not pick up the trash at your residence if you have not paid. Do not place these stickers on your mailbox. Do not leave your trashcans out for an extended period of time. Remove your cans from the street as soon as possible. The stickers and the trashcans might be stolen. Some of our residents are unclear on the concept of putting trashcans at the curb for collection days (Tuesday and Friday). Trash can be put out after 5 PM the night prior to the scheduled collection day.

POSTING OF GARAGE SALE SIGNS

Please be aware that taping a sign of any kind to a stop sign or a road sign IS AGAINST THE LAW and could result in our deputies issuing you a citation. The correct way in our subdivision is using a staked sign place your address, time and date and remove later on that day or as soon as the event is over. This is the only acceptable way to post such signs. If posting a sign on a resident’s property, please ask for prior permission as a courtesy. If a resident places a garage sale sign in median of the front or back entrance and if this results in any type of damage to the sprinkler system, you will be charged for any needed repairs. We are requesting that all residents limit your garage sales to no more than once a quarter - meaning four times a year only.

Texas Commissioner of Education Michael Williams announced today that he will again defer the requirement that states that STAAR end-of-course examinations be counted as 15 percent of a student’s final grade in each subject tested. With this announcement, local school districts have the option to move forward with the 15 percent rule for the 2012 - 2013 academic year. Last year, Katy ISD opted to participate in the deferral as the district adjusted to the rigor of the new STAAR test. “Katy ISD will again participate in the deferral, as we feel that this will allow both students and teachers an opportunity to better understand

17 Cadets of our Mayde Creek NJROTC Unit gave up their Sunday afternoon to help Katy VFW Post 9182 and Katy American Legion Post 164 honor WW II Veterans in a Pearl Harbor Day event, followed by the retirement of approximately 100 U.S. Flags. It made history in 1943 as the first of its kind to be established on a local school level and now the Katy Rodeo has grown to encompass three nights of rodeo entertainment for the whole family. 70 years later, the Katy Rodeo is one of the few remaining youth and professional rodeos still supporting FFA. Hosting a foreign exchange student is easier than you may think

During the 2012-2013 school year, students from all across the world will have the opportunity to travel to Houston and surrounding communities to spend the entire school year in the United States, learning and working with American Families. In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year. The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States. There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student. The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture.

With the current school year quickly coming to an end Ayusa’s local staff is busy looking for families for students for the 2012-2013 school year. Many families are needed and with the schools having deadlines and limits for foreign exchange students the earlier the better. It also gives the families and students time to get to know each other via skype, facebook, etc. while waiting for their year abroad to start. Everyone is welcome to New Creation’s Grand Opening on Sunday, February 10th at the Irene Stern Community Center in Fulshear. The services are a blend of Lutheran worship and contemporary praise with Holy Communion offered at 10 am. The worship leader, Josh Pack, will make you feel at home and inspire your worship. Children are welcome in all our worship services with Sunday school held during the second half of the service.
