(BCS3) EMAIL LIST In an effort to improve communications during the year within our small neighborhood, the Board is continuing its efforts to update its email distribution list to include as many of the residents as possible. Email is the fastest and more effective way of keeping the BCS3 residents informed of neighborhood events, criminal activity and other important issues. In an effort to maintain confidentiality of individual email addresses, the Board always sends out email notices with resident addresses handled as “blind ccs” to avoid widespread distribution. If you want to be included on future email distributions, please contact Mark Przywara (msp0007@ yahoo.com - 832-418-3409) and get him your email address.
(BCS3) CONTACT THE BOARD As is the case with everything in our small neighborhood, every resident should feel free to contact any Board member as to any issue or question that you have about BCS3. Contact information for all the Board members is located on the inside back cover of this publication.

CHARLESTOWN COLONY (ChC) Homeowner Dues are overdue Thanks to those of you who paid your dues on time. When SCS Management has to send late payment notices, it ultimately costs every homeowner. The fewer reminder letters sent means money saved for community improvements and activities. If you have not already paid your dues, please contact Cynthia Debord at SCS Management. Cynthia can be reached by email at cdebord@scsmgmt.com or by phone at 281-463-1777, ext 7107. She will be happy to speak with you and may possibly be able to work out a payment plan. Remember, there is a $29 late fee applied to payments made in February. There is an additional $35 late fee applied if you don’t pay until March. If you have past due assessments, you are continuing to accrue charges and fees on your outstanding assessments. If you choose to sell your home, all outstanding fees and assessments must be paid before you will be able to close on the home. The worst thing to do is ignore the association dues. The requirement to pay will not go away; you just end up owing more. Contact SCS and work with them on the best way to get this payment settled.
(ChC) Holiday Decoration Winner & Yard of the Month There were so many beautiful/colorful/brightly decorated homes, it was hard to decide! Way to go Charlestown Colony for getting in to the holiday spirit so vibrantly, it made driving through our neighborhood such a joy. This year’s winner was your neighbors at 5606 E. Towerglen Loop. they received a Kroger gift card. I truly hope you each had a chance to see their house. believe me, you couldn’t miss it! Thanks to everyone and Happy New Year. The 2013 monthly YOM program will run March-October, are you ready??? Yard of the Month will once again, be sponsored by Cornelius Nurseries. The winner will receive a gift certificate to Cornelius Nursery. Cornelius Nursery sponsors My Texas Garden Club. Joining the club is free and offers some of the very best garden savings opportunities available at Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery garden centers. They also have experts who can answer questions. There are so many gardening

resources available. If you subscribe to the Houston Chronicle, Saturday’s Star section is full of gardening tips and ideas. The first Saturday of each month has a “what to do in the garden” this month article with lots of information. Also, the 6th Annual CyFair Home and Garden show is at the Berry Center (Barker Cypress and West Rd.) February 23rd and 24th Parking is free; the event is $9 for adults and $7 for seniors. Check out their website for more details and speakers: www.cyfairhomeandgarden.com
(ChC) Recent Theft The neighborhood recently had a theft of a back-flow regulator for the sprinkler system. The theft cost the neighborhood about $1,000. yes, one thousand dollars. This theft took time to complete and took place in plain sight. If you see suspicious behavior, please do not hesitate to contact the Sheriff, 713-221-6000. People doing legitimate work have identification to show an officer. People not doing legitimate work will not stick around when an officer approaches. Do not attempt to verify a legitimate worker on your own; always contact the sheriff.
(ChC) Our Municipal Utility District Our Municipal Utility District 102 handles our water, sewer, garbage and recycling. Make a commitment this year to be more aware of water use. The more water we use, the higher our bills. The WHCRWA (West Harris County Regional Water Authority) fee is directly tied to the amount of water used. Did your MUD bill seem high? Did you know there are instructions on how to check for a water leak on the back of the water bill? There is a black or red (depends on the meter) triangular-shaped leak detector on the left beside the numbers. If you shut all the water off to your home and the leak detector is still moving, then you have a leak. If the leak is on the homeowner’s side, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to repair the leak; if on the MUD side, call them so they can repair the leak. Water in the meter box doesn’t necessarily mean you have a leak. Water run-off can collect in the box. Other sources of leaks are toilets. Flappers, flush valves, fill valves and trip levers don’t last forever. Listen and see if you can hear water trickling through. That’s how we found the latest leak in our house. Remember WHCRWA’s slogan - “The cheapest gallon of water is water we conserve.” Make a commitment this year to recycle more. Our trash and recycling are contracted with WCA Waste Corporation and the cost is included in our MUD bill. Trash days are Monday and Thursday only. If one of their 6 holidays falls on a Monday or Thursday there is no trash pick-up until the next scheduled day. Recycle day is Monday. WCA will collect the items listed below on each recycling day. To minimize bugs and contamination, please rinse recycling as applicable. Check out their website for further details.

CONCORD COLONY (CC) MONTHLY ASSOCIATION MEETINGS Concord Colony Homeowners Association meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Tuesday of every month starting at 7:00 PM. The meeting is located at 15300 Falmouth (directly under The Colony’s water tower). See our Concord Colony Facebook page for a map of the meeting location. We want to encourage all Homeowners to attend and speak to the Board regarding any matters related to Association business. Our next scheduled meeting is January 8, 2012.
(CC) CONCORD COLONY’S FACEBOOK PAGE You can visit the neighborhood Facebook Page to see notices pertaining to our community. There are two different options to access the page. If you are logged into your Facebook account, simply go to www.facebook.com/ConcordColony77084 or you may search for ‘Concord Colony’ and select the ‘Concord Colony Organization’ page. Either way, click ‘Like’ to begin receiving notifications about the neighborhood including crime alerts, HOA meeting notices and neighborhood contest winners. Use the page to post notices about lost pets or personal garage sales, etc.
(CC) DEED RESTRICTIONS Please remember that deed restrictions are strongly enforced and any outside construction or major landscaping changes to your home must be approved by the Architectural Control Committee (ACC). ACC contact information for Concord Colony is on the inside back cover of this newsletter.
GEORGETOWN COLONY I (GC1) Garbage Cans Many new neighbors have been storing their garbage cans in view from the street. This is in violation of the deed restrictions and appropriate actions are subject to corrective action. Also, please remember to place garbage curbside after 6 PM the night before pickup.
(GC1) Garage Sales According to the State Comptroller’s office, garage sales are permitted only twice annually. If more than that, it will be assumed that a business is being operated out of home, which is in direct violation of the deed restrictions and necessary action will be taken.
(GC1) LOST AND FOUND PETS
The first thing to do if you find a lost dog that does not have a tag, is to take it to any vet’s clinic or Petsmart and have it scanned for a micro chip. This is the fastest way to get the dog back to its owner. If it does not have a micro chip, please look for signs to make sure the dog gets back to its rightful owner. A dog that is left to wander is subject to being hit by a car, abuse or starving to death. Those of you who are dog owners, please be sure to keep a collar and tag on it at all times. Even if the dog is micro chipped, it is much easier to return the dog to you if it has your contact information on a tag.
(GC1) WELCOME PACKAGES
We now have welcome packages, which include a quick start guide to Georgetown Colony 1, deed restrictions, by which this subdivision abides and architectural guidelines and forms. They will be handed out to new residents, but are also available upon request by contacting SCS management at 281-463-1777.

You can set up a payment plan for 2013, if necessary. Remember that your homeowner assessment will accrue late fees & penalties after January 31st. You can send a check to ACMP (ACMP, Inc., 16650 Pine Forest Lane, Houston, TX 77084) or you can pay online at www. jamestowncolony.com (if you pay online, you are responsible for any service fees for your online payment). To arrange a payment plan, contact ACMP at 281-855-9867. This is the last year of the increased assessment (to pay off the cost of replacing most of the perimeter fence). In 2014, the assessment will go back to $375.
(JC) SPRING COMMUNITY EVENTS Instead of holding our garage sale in the spring, we are investigating holding the 6th Annual Jamestown Community Garage Sale in the fall, possibly as part of a larger community event. Stay tuned for details. The tentative date for the 2013 Easter Egg Hunt in the Section 1 park is March 30th. The final date will be announced.
(JC) CHANGE IN COLLECTION POLICY In our continuing effort to save homeowner money, the Board of the Homeowners Association (HOA) has voted to institute a new collection policy. We will expedite most collections by filing small claims actions instead of putting collections in the hands of our lawyers. This will save residents thousands of dollars every year in legal fees. If a resident owes the Association money, they will receive one 30-day notice before a claim is filed in a local court by the Board and our management company.
(JC) DO WE HAVE YOUR EMAIL & PHONE? If we can email you, we can save the HOA some money for notifications. In the event of emergencies, we need a reliable way to contact residents. Email schpinna@yahoo.com and put “JHOA ADD” in the subject line. Include your name, street address, home phone, cell phone and preferred email address(es) in the body of the email if possible.
(JC) GREEN TIPS Clean that Nasty Microwave - Put 1 tablespoon of lemon and/ or orange (citrus) rinds in a microwave safe bowl and fill the bowl three quarters full of water. Place in microwave and nuke for 5-7 minutes; then remove bowl. The citric-acid-infused steam will break down the yuck & you can easily wipe it out with a towel. Homemade Air Freshener - Want to skip the chemicals but need a fresh scent? Try laying 1/2 inch of chopped orange peels and then 1/2 inch of salt in a glass jar; continue layering orange peels and then salt until the jar is 2/3 full. Leave the jar uncovered in a stinky room. The salt will draw moisture from the peels, releasing the fragrant oils. You can also try this trick with rose petals or lavender.

HFAC Announces auditions for Leaving Iowa
A comedy about the family vacations you’d like to forget! Houston Family Arts Center announces auditions for its Main Stage production of Leaving Iowa written by Tim Clue and Spike Manton. An annual trek to Civil War Battlefields would be excruciating enough for young Don without the wrong turns and awful roadside attractions. But as an adult, Don takes a more understanding view of both those vacations and his father. This folksy and nostalgic comedy about family vacations will delight anyone who’s ever sat in a car for more than an hour. AUDITION INFORMATION Auditions for Leaving Iowa will take place on Saturday, Feb 9, 2013, from 1-4 PM by appointment at HFAC located in NW Houston at 10760 Grant Road, Houston, TX 77070. Actors can make an appointment by emailing auditions@houstonfac. com for an audition time slot. Please be sure to include your desired role and phone number in your request.

• Eggs • Fresh fruit and vegetables • Lean protein: Fish, poultry and beans keep saturated fat to a minimum. • Ground chia seed: Packed with protein, fiber and a good balance of essential fatty acids. Add a spoonful to smoothies or oatmeal for a nutty flavor similar to flax seed. • Sweet potatoes: Try them baked with a sprinkle of walnuts and cinnamon - great for breakfast or a snack. • Fluids: Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! • Avocado: Fats should make up about 25% of your daily diet when you’re training, so avocados are an easy way to get the healthy fat.
EASY VEGAN VALENTINE SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE! As a vegetarian, it’s difficult to find sweets that are eggless and also dairy-free. But it’s not impossible! Be sure to surprise your valentine with this super easy and vegan sugar cookie recipe: • 1 cup plain white flour • 1/2 cup or slightly less granulated sugar • 1/2 cup SmartBalance or soy butter • 1 tsp. baking powder • 1 tsp. vanilla extract Directions 1. Pre-heat the oven to 345 degrees. 2. Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl using a spatula or an electric whisk until it is fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract and thoroughly mix. 3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. 4. Add the flour to the creamed butter and mix until a soft dough is formed. 5. Shape into a log and wrap in cling film or foil and refrigerate for an hour or overnight. 6. Tear off small amounts of dough and shape into balls spacing them well apart on a baking sheet, as they will spread in the oven. 7. Bake for 15-20 minutes depending on your oven. Ease them off using a palate knife - they will be a little soft still but that is fine. 8. Allow them to cool on a rack for at least an hour. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through February. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

Celebrate Mardi Gras!
Translated from the French, Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday.” In short, it’s the last day before the traditional Catholic Lenten fasting season leading up to Easter Sunday. For those cities that celebrate it - most famously New Orleans, Louisiana - Mardi Gras means feasts, multiple parades, elaborate costumes and parties. Mardi Gras Origin Some scholars trace Mardi Gras’ roots to the ancient Roman Lupercalia festival, which was held in mid-February. Like many other pagan holidays, early Church leaders incorporated elements of the celebration into the new faith rather than risk alienating converted followers. As Catholicism spread across Europe, so did the Mardi Gras celebration. Mardi Gras Comes to America By the Middle Ages, Mardi Gras or “Carnival,” had become a major holiday in France and early French explorers brought the tradition to the New World when establishing settlements in their explorations of the Mississippi River. With its strong French roots, New Orleans naturally evolved into one of the premier Mardi Gras destinations in the world. Mardi Gras: The Religious roots The Mardi Gras kicks off on the Epiphany, twelve days after Christmas on January 6th, also known as Twelfth Night or Three Kings Day, celebrating the arrival of the three wise men and their gifts to the baby Jesus. The season ends promptly at midnight on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. What’s in a name: Eating a calf The name “Fat Tuesday” comes from the tradition of eating a slaughtered calf on the final day of Carnival. These days, though, that definition has expanded to include feasting on pretty much any rich fatty food. Mardi Gras Around the world Mardi Gras or Carnival is celebrated in many cities around the world besides New Orleans, including Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Nice, France and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. But many small towns and municipalities celebrate Mardi Gras as well, including the tiny community of Rubonia, Florida. The Universal Studios Florida theme park also throws a Mardi Gras celebration on weeknights from February to April, featuring parades and concerts by national acts.
