HEARTHSTONE HOA EMAIL ALERTS

The email alerts group has migrated to the new, improved website. You no longer need to send an email to the management company. Just register at the site using “Join our Mailing Lists” on the opening page. You will be automatically added to the email group. This group will be used to quickly but sparingly, get information out to members between newsletters. If you would like these messages sent to more than one email address, just register again with each address you want included in the group. The addresses will not be sold, distributed or used for any purpose other than association business. Your address will not even be shared among group members. Messages sent to the group will be limited to those authorized by the HOA Board of Directors. If you have already joined the email group, you do not need to do so again.

HEARTHSTONE EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS

When making any changes to the exterior of your home, please keep in mind that you must first submit an application and receive written approval. An application can be obtained by sending a request to customercare@pcmi-us.com. The PCMI call center is manned by three people. The main number is 281-870-0585. The hours are 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Fridays.

If you’ve ever considered joining a mom’s group, look no further! We are located right here in Hearthstone! Our group is a great way to get to know other moms, help children make friends with future or current classmates and if you are new to the area, give you insight into the best places to eat, bring the kids, etc. We hope that you will join us at one of our meetings and/or join us at an event! Dues are only $30 per year. Activities for the year include pool parties, family parties, Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival, Mom’s Christmas Party and Santa visits at your home. If you’ve ever wanted to be able to take better pictures, then you won’t want to miss Hearthstone Garden Club’s February meeting featuring instruction on how to take quality photographs. In keeping with this year’s Garden Club theme - “The Best Little Garden Club in Texas,” Jeanne Gingell, Hearthstone Garden Club president, will present the February program - “Best Little Flower Photos in Texas.” Jeanne will demonstrate fundamental tips and photography tricks for taking great pictures and will answer any questions you might have about photography.

Replenish mulch as needed. • Control early spring insects like thrips on glads and aphids on young tender growth. Spray with Malathion, Diazinon or Orthene. • At the end of February: peach, apple and pear fruit must be thinned to insure quality production at harvest. • Give groundcovers a haircut. They will spread faster. • Divide daylilies, daisies and other perennials now.

The Arts at Cy-Christian High School Drama Takes Third in TAPPS Competition: The high school drama class recently completed a successful run of “The Great Pandemonium,” by Pat Cook, entertaining audiences with both in-class and evening performances. Since many of the roles were double cast and the performers took turns playing in the various shows, no two shows were alike, giving each performance an exciting “life of its own.” When the cast and crew took the show on the road to compete at the TAPPS Regional One Act Play Contest, the run culminated with an impressive third place finish. Director Dia Moore was pleased to report that in addition to the accolades for the show, the cast and crew won an extraordinary number of individual awards. Jordan Wandix was named Best Actor. The third annual Cypress Hoops Invitational Tournament, held Dec. 6th - 8th at CFISD high schools and the Berry Center, raised more than $22,500 for the “Donate to Educate” program, which provides college scholarships for district students as well as staff development grants to CFISD for innovative and creative teacher training. The 24-team tournament was hosted by the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) with the goal of engaging the entire community in order to promote basketball, generate community spirits and raise funds for the CFEF. South Grand Prairie High School won the tournament, while Langham Creek High School placed second. North Cypress Medical Center served as the event underwriter for the third consecutive year. The girls visited with the residents and served cookies. Daisy Girl Scout Jazzlynn W. took some time out with her mom, Kimberley, at the festivities. The Santa Claus hats and smiling faces were a big hit with all those present! We are looking forward to our “Me and My Guy” event in early March, as girls and the special guy in their lives enjoy a taste of Italy! It should be a “Bella notte” for all as they enjoy crafts, games, food and fun together! Daisy Day and Brownie Day events are coming together and information should be coming out in the not-too-distant future. We are looking forward to the pictures and stories from our Leader/Daughter event! Many participated in the Dutch oven cook-off (enjoying the results also counts as participation) and more took part in the talent show. March 5-7, 2013 market to feature some 90 vendors, benefit local and global missions Spring Thing Market, an annual production of Chapelwood’s United Methodist Women, is one of the largest spring markets in Houston, as well as one of the most beloved events for Memorial-area women and their friends. Last year’s Spring Thing boasted 90 vendors and raised $95,000 for local and global missions benefiting women and children. The upcoming market opens on March 5th with an evening preview party and the free market takes place on March 6th and 7th. The 2012 Market benefited local missions including the Fairhaven Food Pantry, Gracewood - A Children at Heart Ministry, Mission of Yahweh, Memorial Area Ministries and the Spring Branch Community Health Center. A comedy about the family vacations you’d like to forget! Houston Family Arts Center announces auditions for its Main Stage production of Leaving Iowa written by Tim Clue and Spike Manton. An annual trek to Civil War Battlefields would be excruciating enough for young Don without the wrong turns and awful roadside attractions. But as an adult, Don takes a more understanding view of both those vacations and his father. This folksy and nostalgic comedy about family vacations will delight anyone who’s ever sat in a car for more than an hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Butter and flour 12 (3 inch) madeleine molds; set aside. Melt butter and let cool to room temperature. In a small mixing bowl, beat eggs, vanilla and salt at high speed until light. Beating constantly, gradually add sugar and continue beating at high speed until mixture is thick and pale and ribbons form in bowl when beaters are lifted, 5 to 10 minutes. Sift flour into egg mixture 1/3 at a time, gently folding after each addition. Add lemon zest and pour melted butter around edge of batter. Quickly but gently fold butter into batter. Spoon batter into molds; it will mound slightly above tops. Bake 14 to 17 minutes, or until cakes are golden and the tops spring back when gently pressed with your fingertip. Use the tip of the knife to loosen madeleines from pan; invert onto rack. Immediately sprinkle warm cookies with granulated sugar. Madeleines are best eaten the day they’re baked. Leftover madeleines are wonderful when dunked into coffee or tea. Variation: Chocolate Madeleines: Omit lemon zest. Increase sugar to 1/2 cup. Substitute 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder for 2 tablespoons of the flour; sift into batter with flour. EDITOR’S NOTE: If you do not have a Madeleine mold pan, you can use mini muffins pan or whoopee mold pan instead.
