Posting sign on mailboxes is actually a federal offense. Packing tape on painted gates has made a mess of our gates and it is VERY COSTLY to repair. In addition, if you put signs out on stakes, remove in an appropriate amount of time. Your respect for common community property is appreciated by your neighbors!

Get Connected and Stay Informed! The new way to keep in touch with your neighbors is by joining our new online private network. You can post, chat and stay informed by logging on to https:// falconpointeast.nextdoor.com/join Have questions before joining? Please contact Jon Benson at 281-693-5583 or Sylvia Wilson Sylvia Wilson, Director Falcon Point East HOA, home: 281-3955929, cell: 713-598-4815, sylwil@consolidated.net

BOARD OF DIRECTOR’s MEETING Falcon Point East Board of Directors is comprised completely of volunteers. Would you like to be involved in the decision making process for your community? Become a member. The board generally meets the third Thursday of each month. Occasionally, the meeting date and time does vary, so please contact Sharon Davis at sdavis@amitx.com or 713-984-7243 to confirm the time and date. All meetings are open to the general public but if you would like to address the board, please call ahead to be put on the agenda.

HOMEOWNERS Don’t forget to give your 6-digit code to your maids, yard assistants, friends or others. You may also purchase a card for $10 (call Jon Benson at 281-6935583). We have gone way over budget with damaged gates this year! We need help from all residents!

HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY?

Please call the AMI Resource Center at 713-932-1122 or 800-932-9449. We are ready with your answers.

This is unsightly and is not the image we want to present in our community. Trash pickup days are Tuesday and Friday. Friday is heavy trash day. Trash should not be placed at curb before 6:00 PM the night before trash is picked up. Please respect the deed restrictions.

SPEEDING If you observe speeding cars in your area, you can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 281-341-4665 to request patrols so that speeding is discouraged. The Sheriff’s Department has been given authority to enforce traffic laws on our private streets.

EMAIL ADDRESSES In an effort to get information out to our residents in a timely manner, we are asking homeowners to voluntarily submit their email addresses to be included on a mailing list for Falcon Point use only. Sending email will allow us to keep homeowners informed of upcoming events (garage sale, National Night Out, etc.), scheduled maintenance (gate repair, etc.) and other issues of concern to our neighborhood. On the right hand side of the screen, click on “Calendars” and then go to “Soccer.” The reservation must be made by a resident of Falcon Point East HOA (the Arbor, the Grove, the Landing and the Meadows), who is responsible for the activities on the field during the reserved time. You can contact Sharon Davis at sdavis@amitx.com or 713-984-7243 if you have any questions.

NEED ADDITIONAL GATE TRANSMITTERS AND/OR GATE CARDS? Gate transmitters and gate cards are available for purchase. Transmitters are $40 each and cards are $10 each at this time. If you wish to buy gate access equipment, you can contact the Gate Committee at FPE.gates@gmail.com. It is strongly recommended that everyone purchase a wallet card to be able to gain access to the neighborhood, in case your transmitter battery fails or you need to gain access to the community, but you are not in your own car.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION The Falcon Point East subdivision consists of the 613 lots located in the Arbor, the Grove, the Landing and the Meadows. Owners of these lots are members of the Falcon Point East Homeowners Association, Inc. (the Association). The Association is managed by Association Management, Inc. (AMI). AMI manages the day-to-day operations of the Association including, but not limited to, handling deed restriction violations, correspondence with homeowners, cutting checks to pay bills and other correspondence with vendors. Policy is set by a five member Board of Directors (the “Board”). The Board is elected by the members of the Association at the Annual Meeting of Members held in October or November of each year.

YOUR HEALTH NOW! - DINING OUT TIP The temptations of eating so-called “healthy” favorites are so easy to give into when at restaurants. Thanks to Grand Lakes’ resident, Kelly G., we have a great list of “tempting foods” and also the athome versions of some of your restaurant favorites. Thank you, Kelly! • Temptation #1: Cobb Salad; are loaded with cheese, bacon, egg and topped with a creamy dressing. At-Home Version: Use dark lettuce, like spinach or arugula, to get the most nutritional value. Top it with hard-boiled egg whites, baked turkey bacon, light cheese, avocado and drizzle lemon juice and vinegar for dressing. • Temptation Food #2: Spinach Artichoke Dip; just half a cup of this creamy dip will set you back about 350 calories. At-Home Version: Use low-fat milk, spinach, some olive oil and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. • Temptation #3: Chicken Tenders. This is basically fried chicken. Enough said. At-Home Version: Whip up a few eggs with some Dijon mustard, garlic powder and onion powder. Dip skinless, boneless chicken tenders in the mixture and then coat with almond flour, thyme, paprika and salt. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes or until no longer pink, flipping once halfway through. Turn on the broiler for the last couple of minutes to make it nice and crispy. • Temptation #4: Sliders. Despite their petite package, enjoy a couple sliders and you’ll have taken in more than 1,000 calories. At-Home Version: 1) Use lean, ground turkey to create petite patties and grill them with minimal oil. 2) Instead of the carbohydrate-filled bun, use large pieces of butter lettuce to wrap around your patties. Add sliced tomato, low fat cheese and grilled onion and secure the whole thing with a toothpick.

At-Home Version: 1) Bake a spaghetti squash until tender, then scoop out the soft, angel hair-like strands and top with your healthy pasta sauce. 2) Using a vegetable peeler, create long strips of zucchini and top with your healthy pasta sauce. ** Email monica_vagholkar@yahoo.com for a special homemade, low-fat, full taste alfredo recipe.

The Katy Go Club Go / Wei Qi / Baduk: Learn how to play this 4,000-year-old Asian strategy game or find an opponent to challenge you. We are organizing a club to meet weekly or bi-weekly in the Katy area. All skill levels are welcome. Please send an email to Paul Wheeler, Pkwheeler@ti.com with your interest.

BAYOU BELLES SERVICE ORGANIZATION Professional women from Acadiana, meet the 1st Wednesday of every month at 7 PM, offering our members fun family activities, volunteer opportunities, annual charity gala, philanthropic youth program and so much more. For the third year in a row, Cinco Ranch High School’s Robotics Team 624 (“CRyptonite”) was invited by ExxonMobil Chemical Company to represent FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics at an Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day event. Held annually by ExxonMobil Chemical, this program helps junior high girls envision careers in engineering and encourages them to get involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) courses and activities in high school. ExxonMobil Chemical supports FIRST and Team CRyptonite as one of the team’s corporate sponsors. Fourteen members of Team CRyptonite, along with last season’s basketball-shooting robot “Panzer,” travelled to ExxonMobil’s west Houston office on February 15th to show how helping to design and build a robot as part of a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team has allowed them to experience solving real-world engineering and technology problems. An all-freshmen group of Team 624 girls was called upon to handle much of this demo for about 200 girls from KISD’s West Memorial and McDonald Junior Highs. Zoe Burch and Nasa Xu showed how the robot works and talked about the build process. Aided by Daniel Lambert and Bill Waters, some of the junior high girls got to try their hand at driving the robot and shooting baskets. Stephanie Grace, Susana Simmonds and Andrea Zaharie explained the robot’s pneumatic system to the girls, while Leah Button-Edelson and Jordan Wood did the same for the electronic system. Team 624 Student President, Fraser Head talked about robotics competitions and showed photos and video of the team in action. Pneumatics Captain David Gros was also there to answer questions

The junior high students asked many questions and were particularly impressed with the fact that just last year several of the Team 624 girls were in their shoes, attending this event with Cinco Ranch Junior High. At the end of the program, one of the most common questions from the junior high girls was, “Does the high school I’ll attend have a robotics team?” Founded by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST was created to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an annual competition that helps students discover the rewards and excitement of science, engineering and technology. The 2012 season included over 2,500 teams. FRC combines the excitement of sports with science and technology to create a unique Varsity Sport for the Mind™. Participants are eligible to receive nearly $16 million in scholarships from some of the finest science and engineering schools in the country. Since its founding in 2000, Cinco Ranch High School’s FIRST Robotics Competition Team 624 (“CRyptonite”) has achieved national recognition in all areas of FRC competition. Team highlights from 2012 include advancing to the divisional Semi-Finals of the FRC World Championship and the Indiana Robotics Invitational, winning the Bayou Regional Qualifying Event, advancing to the Finals at the Lone Star Regional Qualifying Event, along with capturing awards for quality, innovation and industrial safety. This has been possible through the generous financial and mentor support of our corporate sponsors, including founding sponsors BP America and Oceaneering Intervention Engineering. Other corporate sponsors include: ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil Chemical, Wood Group, BAE Systems, Texas Workforce Commission, Kinder Morgan, West Engineering Services, MTS, Shell and Dockwise. We’re also indebted to numerous teachers, parents, mentors and our incredibly hardworking students. “While we are very pleased that our students outperformed the state, that is not our only goal,” says Katy ISD Superintendent, Alton Frailey. “While we will remain competitive with our peer districts within the state accountability system, our primary objective is to provide each student high quality and comprehensive learning experiences.” The STAAR test assesses student performance based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning objectives developed by the TEA. Because students took the STAAR test for the first time in 2012, test scores will not count in any way toward a student’s 2012 - 2013 state testing results, regardless if they passed or failed the test. The TEA is currently in the process of developing a new accountability system for the 2013 - 2014 school year. Additionally, the TEA will not be assigning accreditation status to school districts in 2012 - 2013. During the next two weeks, parents will receive their child’s Confidential Student Report, which provides a summary of how their child performed. Because the STAAR assessments are new and more rigorous than past TAKS assessments, many parents may see test scores that differ from previous TAKS test results.

“The change in scores is not a reflection of the education that students receive as we continue to provide high-quality instruction that students and parents expect in Katy ISD,” says Katy ISD’s Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Christine Caskey. “Not only is STAAR more rigorous than TAKS, this was the first time students saw the format of the new test. As students and teachers become more familiar with STAAR, we anticipate that future scores will improve.” Students who participate in the 2013 spring administration of STAAR will receive a new Confidential Student Report near the end of the 2013 school year. The 2013 spring administration of the STAAR will be the first set of test results that will count toward a student’s state testing performance.

TOMPKINS HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL MASCOT The administration at Obra D. Tompkins High School has officially announced that the mascot for the school will be the Falcons. Immediately after the Board of Trustees named the new high school, campus administration started the mascot recommendation process, inviting input from students, staff, parents and the Tompkins HS community. After all names were submitted, Principal Mark Grisdale and staff members met with members of the incoming student body to discuss and vote on the top recommendations, ultimately revealing the winning mascot name. “It was great to have the Katy ISD community involved in our selection process,” says Grisdale. “The campus is now working with the Katy ISD department of communications to develop an official logo.” The Tompkins High School colors are crimson, navy blue and white. For more information visit the Tompkins High School webpage.

Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company proudly presents Ravenscroft, by Don Nigro, Thursday through Saturday and Monday, May 3-18, 2013 with a preview on Thursday, May 2nd. Directed by Rob Kimbro and starring Sean Patrick Judge, Michelle Edwards, Claire Anderson, Karen Schlag, Zoquera Millburne and Kara Ray. SYNOPSIS: This psychological drama is a thinking person’s Gothic thriller, a dark comedy that is both funny and frightening. On a snowy night, Inspector Ruffing is called to a remote house to investigate the death Patrick Roarke. He becomes involved in the lives of five alluring and dangerous women, all of whom are suspects in the murder. There are ghosts on the staircase, skeletons in the closet and much more than the Inspector bargained for. His investigation leads into own tortured soul and the nature of truth itself. You will not guess the ending, but you will be teased, seduced, bewildered, amused, frightened and led to a dark encounter with truth or something even stranger. DON NIGRO is an American playwright; his plays Anima Mundi and The Dark Sonnets of the Lady have both been nominated for the National Repertory Theatre Foundation’s National Play Award. He has won a Playwright’s Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment For The Arts, grants from the Mary Roberts Rinehart Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council, and twice been James Thurber Writer In Residence at the Thurber House in Columbus, Ohio…. a fun ride and it’s also fun to discover all those kinky goings-on that you always suspected lay beneath those stuffy British murder mysteries. Hosting a foreign exchange student is easier than you may think During the 2012-2013 school year, students from all across the world will have the opportunity to travel to Houston and surrounding communities to spend the entire school year in the United States, learning and working with American Families.

• Weekly Pool Cleaning Service • Repairs • Renovations

In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year. The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States.

Factory Warranty Service for Pentair

There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student.

281-395-4269

The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture.

There are a few basic requirements, of course. Anyone older than 25 and can provide food and shelter for a student fulfills the requirements of being a host family. There is a background check, reference check and an interview. Background checks have to be done on everyone over 18 living in the home. The host families have to be interested in it for the right reasons, the cultural exchange of learning from them and them learning from us. It’s the language, the cooking, the music, the food. The host family has to be genuinely interested. Once the host families and students are matched, Ayusa stays involved by monthly contacts with the families, students and quarterly contacts with the schools. Ayusa coordinators also handle the host family orientations and the student orientations. Group activities, such as community service and seeing things with the group of exchange students is also arrange throughout their academic year. With the current school year quickly coming to an end Ayusa’s local staff is busy looking for families for students for the 2012-2013 school year. Many families are needed and with the schools having deadlines and limits for foreign exchange students the earlier the better. It also gives the families and students time to get to know each other via skype, facebook, etc. while waiting for their year abroad to start. Please contact Heather Wells by email ayusakaty@gmail.com or by phone 281-770-3414.

NCL Star Chapter The Star Chapter of NCL celebrated the Senior Class of 2013 in the ballroom of the Marriott Houston Westchase February 17th. We recognized each of these 21 young ladies for what they have accomplished in the past six years in the NCL organization. They have contributed over 5,000 hours to their chapter and community working through 24 local charities. Each young lady learned how to serve her community, be a leader and open her eyes to the cultural arts around her. The Star Chapter is dedicated to mothers and daughters serving together and building a close relationship, which together empowers them to be confident, well rounded and socially aware contributors in their communities.

Amid Mardi Gras festivities, delicious steaks and chicken provided by Outback, “to die for” bread pudding from “Babin’s Seaford House” and “Katy Cajun” plus the amazing music of “The Green Onions,” the Gulf Coast Elks crowned yet another District Sweetheart. The Elks Sweetheart Program involves each lodge selecting a Sweetheart to raise funds for the Texas State Project - special needs children. Each year at this time, a District Charity Ball is held to celebrate the successes and show appreciation for the hard work of our lodge sweethearts with the one with the most money being honored as Gulf Coast District Sweetheart. Those representing the various lodges were: Catherine Bulliner, Clearlake; Carol Marek, El Campo; Connie Claypool, Galveston; Al Olmos, Houston; Dorris Conley, Katy and Sandra Black, Pearland. After all totals were reported and tabulated, Catherine Bulliner of Clearlake was 3rd, Al Olmos of Houston was 2nd and Dorris Conley of Katy was crowned District Sweetheart.

281-617-2231 The next step for the District Sweetheart is to add to district funds through additional fund raising involving all district lodges. The state winner will be announced at the Texas Elks State Association convention in Addison in June. The Gulf Coast District holds claim to 10 state wins out of the 34 years one has been crowned. This is with 9 districts competing. Funds raised through this program provide summer camp at Texas Elk Camp located at Ottine, between Lulling and Gonzales, as well as needed equipment that insurance doesn’t cover and parents can’t afford. There are seven sessions of camp that host approximately 35-45 special needs students each session. Children are considered on a first come basis and the camp is at no cost to families. Contact your local Elks Lodge for details and applications or check online at www.texaselkscamp.org for applications.
