Any questions or concerns should be directed to Crest Management. The Spring 2013 community-wide garage sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 6th. There will be another communitywide garage sale in the fall with the date to be announced at a later date.
We love dogs, yes we do...
We love our community and so should you! Besides being a nuisance, unleashed dogs and uncollected dog waste is a serious problem for our Association. Next time you’re tempted to let your dog roam free or leave your dog’s droppings on the lawn, please remember these facts: 1. The Environmental Protection Agency is becoming aggressive about enforcing the Clean Water Act. Our Association could be fined if dog waste goes uncollected. 2. Unleashed dogs are not more likely to defecate in neighbor’s yards. Uncollected dog waste may lead to a special assessment. If fined by the EPA, the Association could face a potential special assessment that would be levied against all members - not just dog owners. 3. The appearance and quality of the common areas are known to affect home sales - not just for how much they sell, but how quickly. 4. The more residents complain about dog waste, the more time the manager must spend on enforcement rather than serving the Association. 5. Uncollected dog waste spreads disease and attracts rodents who feed on pet waste. We love dogs - we really do. We also love our community! That is why the Association is committed to enforcing the county leash law - so all residents may enjoy our community. According to the U.S. Humane Society, an unleashed dog has an average life span of less than four years! Allowing your dog to run free threatens your dog’s health and welfare and the happiness it brings to you.

We trust we can count on you for voluntary compliance with the leash law. We don’t like to call animal control, but we won’t have any choice if your dog is running free.
LEASH LAW “Harris County”
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL
Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/ side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and accurate termite inspections.

Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls.
Professional Garage Door Repair
Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi

from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a healthy winter’s dormancy. Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. Most important is proper watering • Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do not water.) • Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. • In severe drought, water every 5th day. • Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. • A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger and more drought resistant roots. • Less watering also saves you money!! KATY ISD OUTPERFORMS STATE ON STAAR TEST
20445-A Morton Road
Test scores released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) from the 2012 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) accountability test for grades 3-8 show that Katy ISD outperformed the state in every grade level assessment. The district also exceeded the state passing rate by an average of 13 points.

“While we are very pleased that our students outperformed the state, that is not our only goal,” says Katy ISD Superintendent, Alton Frailey. “While we will remain competitive with our peer districts within the state accountability system, our primary objective is to provide each student high quality and comprehensive learning experiences.” The STAAR test assesses student performance based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning objectives developed by the TEA. Because students took the STAAR test for the first time in 2012, test scores will not count in any way toward a student’s 2012 - 2013 state testing results, regardless if they passed or failed the test. The TEA is currently in the process of developing a new accountability system for the 2013 - 2014 school year. Additionally, the TEA will not be assigning accreditation status to school districts in 2012 - 2013. During the next two weeks, parents will receive their child’s Confidential Student Report, which provides a summary of how their child performed. Because the STAAR assessments are new and more rigorous than past TAKS assessments, many parents may see test scores that differ from previous TAKS test results.

There will be an election for two positions on the KISD Board of Trustees on May 12, 2013. Early voting will take place from Monday, April 29th through Tuesday, May 7th. Any registered voter in KISD may vote early from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM at any of the following locations: The KISD Administration Building, Taylor High School, Cinco Ranch High School and Maurice Wolfe Elementary School. On Saturday, May 4th all of the early voting locations will be open. Residents who are not registered to vote have until Friday, April 11th to register. Residents who will turn 18 years of age by May 11th may register to vote for this election. Voter registration forms may be obtained at https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/vrapp/index.asp voter registration forms must be postmarked by no later than Friday, April 11th.
e y r w
“The change in scores is not a reflection of the education that students receive as we continue to provide high-quality instruction that students and parents expect in Katy ISD,” says Katy ISD’s Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Christine Caskey. “Not only is STAAR more rigorous than TAKS, this was the first time students saw the format of the new test. As students and teachers become more familiar with STAAR, we anticipate that future scores will improve.” Students who participate in the 2013 spring administration of STAAR will receive a new Confidential Student Report near the end of the 2013 school year. The 2013 spring administration of the STAAR will be the first set of test results that will count toward a student’s state testing performance.

Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company proudly presents Ravenscroft, by Don Nigro, Thursday through Saturday and Monday, May 3-18, 2013 with a preview on Thursday, May 2nd. Directed by Rob Kimbro and starring Sean Patrick Judge, Michelle Edwards, Claire Anderson, Karen Schlag, Zoquera Millburne and Kara Ray. SYNOPSIS: This psychological drama is a thinking person’s Gothic thriller, a dark comedy that is both funny and frightening. On a snowy night, Inspector Ruffing is called to a remote house to investigate the death Patrick Roarke. He becomes involved in the lives of five alluring and dangerous women, all of whom are suspects in the murder. There are ghosts on the staircase, skeletons in the closet and much more than the Inspector bargained for. His investigation leads into own tortured soul and the nature of truth itself. You will not guess the ending, but you will be teased, seduced, bewildered, amused, frightened and led to a dark encounter with truth or something even stranger. DON NIGRO is an American playwright; his plays Anima Mundi and The Dark Sonnets of the Lady have both been nominated for the National Repertory Theatre Foundation’s National Play Award. He has won a Playwright’s Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment For The Arts, grants from the Mary Roberts Rinehart Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council, and twice been James Thurber Writer In Residence at the Thurber House in Columbus, Ohio…. a fun ride and it’s also fun to discover all those kinky goingson that you always suspected lay beneath those stuffy British murder mysteries. You’ll never look at Agatha Christie quite the same way again… Paolo Alto Weekly Located at Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street, Houston, TX 77007. All performances begin at 8 pm. Price- $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. Pay as you can on Mondays and $25 for opening night with a party immediately after the show.
