May 2013 Pool Party - Memorial Day Weekend

Pool season is quickly approaching so you’ll want to be ready to bring your family to the pool and have fun. We’re making improvements such as extending the covered patio area, new patio furniture and easier access to the splash pad from the pool area. In addition, we’ll be working with a new pool management company. We’re hosting a pool party on Saturday, May 25th to celebrate the official opening of our pool Season. As you complete your spring cleaning, be sure you find your pool pass. If you can’t find it, contact KPM Management at 281-685-3090 for a replacement or obtain additional cards for a nominal fee. However, if you’re new to our community and didn’t receive your pass, please contract KPM Management. Here in Raintree Village, we take pride in our homes and our pool. With our new pool management company, a fresh group of lifeguards are charged with maintaining safety and minimizing unruly behavior, so please remember they are in charge. Additionally, young children should not be left unattended at the pool. Furthermore, there’s no smoking allowed at the pool.

Raintree Village Recycles

Our community participates in recycling through our trash services company. Yet, it’s been brought to our attention that not all residents are aware of this opportunity. Residents may contact Royal Disposal at 713526-1536 to obtain a recycle bin. The following items may be placed in the recycle bin and placed for pickup on trash days (Tuesdays & Fridays): • newsprint • corrugated cardboard • office and computer paper • mixed paper • plastics • magazines • telephone directories • aluminum cans and scrap

Residential Address

A number of our residential homes need to ensure the address clearly visible and not obstructed by plants or other items. If you or someone in your home required emergency attention, the lack of a visible address may result in delayed assistance. Reflective numbering on the curb nearest the driveway is considered the most effective. Many of the newer homes have the address located on the homes under an external light. If this is the case, it’s critical to ensure the address is not obstructed by plants.

If you have a complaint regarding the trash service, contact Charles Gregory (Operations Manager) at 713-526-1536. Let’s be mindful that as residents, we must do our part by placing waste in trash bags. If you can’t lift the bag or trash receptacle it’s too full. You should consider breaking up your trash into more bags. We encourage you to remove all trash receptacles from curbside before you retire in the evenings. Additionally, the crew cannot pickup paint and other hazardous materials. You must take such items either to a Harris County or City of Houston hazardous waste dumpsite.

Harris County LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.”

KATY ISD NAMED AMONG BEST COMMUNITIES FOR MUSIC EDUCATION

For the eleventh time in the past 12 years, Katy ISD has been named among the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, which recognizes schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support for music education. Katy ISD is one of only 21 districts in Texas to receive this recognition for 2013. “Our music educators constantly go above and beyond their required duties to make sure their students succeed. This recognition is a direct reflection of their commitment,” said Bob Bryant, executive director of fine arts for Katy ISD. “It is evident that our community, administration and School Board supports and encourages quality music education for every student.” Last September, two Katy ISD musical groups, the McMeans Jr. High Symphonic Band and the Cinco Ranch High School Symphony Orchestra, were selected as National Winners in the Mark of Excellence honors by the Foundation for Music Education. Additionally, the Cinco Ranch Junior High Honors Band was selected and performed in December for the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Selected and performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic in San Antonio in February were the Katy High School Jazz Band, the Stephens Elementary “Stompin’ Hooves” instrumental ensemble and the Griffin Elementary Fifth Grade Choir. Continuing to provide diverse music education opportunities, Katy ISD hosted its fifth annual Katy Jazz Festival, April 26th - 27th. The Katy Jazz Festival provides a learning and performance venue to student and professional musicians, while increasing exposure, education and entertainment to the Katy/ West Houston area. “Students in Katy ISD are exposed to high-quality music programs from kindergarten through their senior year,” added Bryant. “Studies have shown that children engaged in music and the arts often perform better academically as well. This is just another reason why we try to offer a variety of quality fine arts programs and opportunities for our students.” Among the music programs offered to Katy ISD students include: string orchestra, full orchestra, choir vocal ensemble, marching band, concert band, jazz band and multiple individual events of solos and small ensembles.
