May 2013 From your Board of Directors…..
We are happy to announce that the transition to RealManage is proceeding very smoothly! All residents should have received the login info for the Resident Portal. Please take the time to create a login for your account and update your contact info. The Board and RealManage will utilize email to send reminders, notices and other announcements to residents, as necessary. If you need help, please contact RealManage and they will be available to assist you! Annual Homeowners Fees are now past due. These fees are required and necessary to maintain all the amenities, facilities and services within the community. The Board recently installed solar lights on some mailboxes that needed additional security lighting, installed a sidewalk (with the help of Harris County) between the main entrance to Stephens Elementary and have just purchased new pool furniture for the summer season! We have signed a new landscape contract and hope you’ll see some major appearance improvements to all the common areas, entrance monuments and flowerbeds! If you have a balance due, please remit these fees ASAP to avoid having your account turned over to the attorney and incurring late and/or attorney fees. If you have a special situation, please contact RealManage for assistance.
DEED RESTRICTION REMINDERS
RealManage will be performing drive-through inspections twice a month and sending courtesy notices to residents. Remember, these letters cost the HOA and homeowner. PLEASE review your Deed Restrictions and accept responsibility as a homeowner and/or renter, to do what is necessary to repair/maintain your property and help keep Sundown Glen a great community to live in. Flowerbeds/Yard - while it’s still somewhat cool, take time to get flowerbeds weeded, planted and mulched to help control weeds and conserve water. If your grass is thin or missing, now would be a great time to replace the sod and bring your yard back into compliance. Fence Repairs – please inspect your fences and repair/replace missing/ warped or broken boards. There are numerous fences that have been damaged by recent high winds that are just leaning. This is a violation and a safety concern that needs to be fixed immediately.

GOT TRASH?
Trash pickup days are Tuesday and Friday every week. We would like to remind all of our subdivision residents that your trash (cans) should only be visible on these days. Trash left out for days has a tendency to be blown all over the neighborhood and can be a real eyesore. Thank you for helping keep our neighborhood clean.
Notice to Pet Owners
We love our community and so should you! Besides being a nuisance, uncollected dog waste is a serious problem for our Association. Next time you’re tempted to leave your dog’s droppings on the lawn, please remember these facts: • The Environmental Protection Agency is becoming aggressive about enforcing the Clean Water Act. Our Association could be fined if dog waste goes uncollected. • Uncollected dog waste may lead to a special assessment. If fined by the EPA, the Association could face a potential special assessment that would be levied against all members - not just dog owners. • The appearance and quality of the common areas are known to affect home sales - not just for how much they sell, but how quickly. • The more residents complain about dog waste, the more time the manager must spend on enforcement rather than serving the Association. • Uncollected dog waste spreads disease and attracts rodents who feed on pet waste. We love dogs - we really do. That’s why the association is committed to enforcing the county leash law on association property. According to the U.S. Humane Society, an unleashed dog has an average life span of less than four years. Allowing your dog to run free threatens

your dog’s health and welfare and the happiness it brings to you. We also love our community. That’s another reason the association is committed to enforcing the county leash law - so all residents may enjoy our community. We trust we can count on you for voluntary compliance with the leash law. We don’t like to call animal control, but we won’t have any choice if your dog is running free.

KATY ISD NAMED AMONG BEST COMMUNITIES FOR MUSIC EDUCATION
For the eleventh time in the past 12 years, Katy ISD has been named among the Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, which recognizes schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support for music education. Katy ISD is one of only 21 districts in Texas to receive this recognition for 2013. “Our music educators constantly go above and beyond their required duties to make sure their students succeed. This recognition is a direct reflection of their commitment,” said Bob Bryant, executive director of fine arts for Katy ISD. “It is evident that our community, administration and School Board supports and encourages quality music education for every student.” Last September, two Katy ISD musical groups, the McMeans Jr. High Symphonic Band and the Cinco Ranch High School Symphony Orchestra, were selected as National Winners in the Mark of Excellence honors by the Foundation for Music Education. Additionally, the Cinco Ranch Junior High Honors Band was selected and performed in December for the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Selected and performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Clinic in San Antonio in February were the Katy High School Jazz Band, the Stephens Elementary “Stompin’ Hooves” instrumental ensemble and the Griffin Elementary Fifth Grade Choir. Continuing to provide diverse music education opportunities, Katy ISD hosted its fifth annual Katy Jazz Festival, April 26th - 27th. The Katy Jazz Festival provides a learning and performance venue to student and professional musicians, while increasing exposure, education and entertainment to the Katy/ West Houston area. “Students in Katy ISD are exposed to high-quality music programs from kindergarten through their senior year,” added Bryant. “Studies have shown that children engaged in music and the arts often perform better academically as well. This is just another reason why we try to offer a variety of quality fine arts programs and opportunities for our students.” Among the music programs offered to Katy ISD students include: string orchestra, full orchestra, choir vocal ensemble, marching band, concert band, jazz band and multiple individual events of solos and small ensembles.

Decision Making Process: The Architectural Control Committee has up to 30 days after receipt of a completed application to make a decision. Please allow time for the ACC Committee to make their decision in the time given. For your protection, do not start any ACC improvements until you have received a Written Approval from the Committee. Beginning a project before an approval could result in receiving Deed Restriction Violation Letters for not being in compliance. Also, the more detail you provide about your improvement, the faster the decision making process will be. The Declaration of Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (the “Deed Restrictions”) specifies that all improvements as defined in the Deed Restrictions must be approved in writing by the Architectural Control Committee before the improvement begins. To assist in your compliance with this restriction, please complete the ACC form and submit it with your plans and specifications for the proposed improvement.
