Anyone, including tennis pros, wanting to reserve REGULAR court time in advance for lessons or leagues, must contact the tennis committee through Elaine Kearney at 281-492-6848. To reserve court time, the sign-up bulletin board is located inside the tennis courts. Residents may sign up no sooner than 48 hours in advance for a 1 1/2 hour time period by writing their last name on 3 blocks of the sign-up sheet. (Each block represents 30 minutes.) This is to allow maximum court usage for all residents during prime times (mornings and evenings). Should you sign up prior to 48 hours in advance or for longer than 1 1/2 hours, your name will be subject to removal by a committee member. (Of course, you can walk on and play as long as you like if the courts are not previously reserved or in demand.) New residents needing tennis/pool access cards can contact Crest Management at 281-579-0761. Access cards are for residents only. Card access is the only way to insure our courts are only being used and cared for by our residents and their guests, please do not open the gates for anyone not having a card. Do not loan out your card. The lights at the Gerri Ayers courts are numbered. Please note the number of the light before calling to have it repaired. Any maintenance problems at the courts can be reported to Brigitte Hobbesland, 713-591-0880. The tennis court lights are on a timer, they should come on at dusk and turn off by 10:30 pm. PARENTS: Tweens and teens have been observed damaging our tennis courts and the equipment held within. Your yearly maintenance fees pay for this vandalism directly. Ready for Hurricane Season?
Storms can develop quickly. Some advance preparation will eliminate a last minute scramble. Keep: • Homeowners and flood insurance current • Emergency supplies stockpiled • Trees pruned • Loose objects in yard picked up Our website www.greentrailstwo.com contains links to helpful emergency preparation information.
Mosquito Control
Green Trails II has a mosquito control contract with Excalibur Mosquito Control, but you can help, too. The best mosquito control program includes removal of breeding sites. Check your yards and correct these problem areas: 1. Bowl planters, pots, water dishes and birdbaths, which can hold dampness or water 2. Stopped up gutters or standing water in gutters 3. Remove moisture holding pine needles from roof valleys and piles around house.
Green Trails II
4. Don’t over water your yard. If water stands for more than 20 minutes after watering, you are over watering. 5. Monitor standing water under decks and around pools or spas. Spray under deck with garden-variety insecticide regularly or install a drain. Plastic under decks holds water, so try to eliminate it.

To Residents of Green trails
Be a Good Neighbor
When you (or your lawn service) cut your grass or trim shrubs, please be sure clippings are disposed of properly. Our trash contract includes pick up of yard debris properly bagged or bundled and placed at the curb. Note: Remember to not leave bags of clippings at the curb for multiple days. Debris should not be put into storm drains or over fences into common areas. This can block proper drainage and breed mosquitoes, plus the decomposing material smells. Dumping litter or yard waste into storm drains or onto someone else’s property is illegal and you can be ticketed. We have also received complaints that some yard services blow clippings in the street to neighboring houses. If you think your contractor is doing this, please direct them to pick up properly.
Security Tips
If you see something suspicious, call the constable at 281-463-6666. Turning on exterior lights makes it easier for the constable or alert neighbors to see your home and to also see what is going on outside it. Park your cars in your driveway and lock them. Keep doors and windows locked (including garages) and alarms set. Trim shrubs so windows are visible. If you are going to be out of town, turn in a Vacation Watch Form. Use timers on lights. See our website for other tips.

21218 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas 77450 I, Sgt. Robinson, with Harris County Constable Pct. 5, have worked in your neighborhood for several years. During this time, I have found that one of the biggest problems is that people leave the doors to their vehicles and garages unlocked. If you have valuables, do not leave them in the vehicle, take them inside. If you have an alarm system, make sure that the alarm company calls us at 281-463-6666 and that you have a good current contact number with the alarm company, so we can reach you in case of an emergency. If you see anything suspicious, give us a call. My motto is: “The only bad call is the call not made.” Sincerely, Sgt. Robinson

Reminder for gated sections
Please remember that entry codes are for the use of residents ONLY. Please ask guests and / or contractors to utilize the gate directory to obtain access. If contact information in the directory needs to be updated, please contact Crest Management and provide information.
WEBSITE
The Website for Green Trails Phase II (www.greentrailstwo.com) has a “blast email” function. This feature allows the Association to send news to residents on a mass basis. The Board of Directors intends to start utilizing this function more frequently to disseminate important information, particularly in emergencies like Hurricane Ike. If you have not registered and would like to do so, please go to the “Join Our Mailing List” section of the Website. The only information that you need to enter is your email address. Each of the other items is optional, including your name. None of the information will be distributed to third parties.
Home Improvement Reminder
Remember, ALL exterior changes made to your home or yard [including your fence] require ARC approval first. In need of an ARC form? Go to www. greentrailstwo.com our neighborhood website. Remember to apply and get ARC approval before doing work that affects the exterior appearance of your house or yard. This includes replacing fences, repainting (even the same color) and re-roofing. Approval can take up to one month, so plan ahead. In many cases, you can now expedite the process by paying a $50 fee. For details, see the website, www.greentrailstwo.com or call Crest Management at 281-579-0761.
Suspicious Activity?
Call the Constable and report any suspicious activity. The fastest dispatch for law enforcement in our neighborhood is to call the constable direct at 281-463-6666. An alert Green Trails resident recently foiled a car theft by calling the constable when something didn’t seem right. The suspects were arrested. Remember, “No call is too small.”

How Do We Look?
Curb appeal has a big impact on your property value, even if your home is not for sale. Buyers evaluate the neighborhood, not just one house. Stand back from your house and take a close look to see if it needs a mini-makeover. Think about security as well. Has your shrubbery become overgrown, covering windows or blocking the sidewalk? Do low-hanging limbs obscure the front? Does the lawn have brown areas or weeds? Is the siding mildewed or paint peeling? You may want to ask a friend’s opinion; it is easy to overlook things we see everyday. Make plans now to spruce up.
Green Trails Ladies Club Welcomes You
The Green Trails Ladies Club welcomes you as a friend and invites your membership. Membership is open to women residing in west Houston, Katy and surrounding areas. About Our Furry Friends
We have received complaints about dogs running loose. Harris County requires both dogs and cats to be vaccinated, licensed and kept in fenced yards or on leashes. This is for the safety of both our neighbors and your pets. Remember, that if you leave food outside for a dog or cat, you may be attracting other nuisance animals, including rats. If your dog tends to bark, please do not leave it outside.

Summer is almost here, which means pools will be opening for the summer. Please take time to review water safety with your children before they even enter the pool. Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children age 14 and under. Believe it or not, the majority of children who drown do so in residential swimming pools while being cared for by one or both parents. In the time it takes you to run into the house to answer the phone, your child could drown - in as little as one inch of water. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you not install swimming pools at all until your children are over 5 years of age. If you do have a pool, install a four-sided fence, about 5 feet high, with a self-closing latch that’s out of the reach of children. In open bodies of water and on boats, always use personal flotation devices, making sure that they fit properly. But floats and swimming lessons often give parents a false sense of security; they’re no replacement for supervision. At community pools, do not solely lean on the lifeguards to supervise your children. You are your child’s best safety net. Keep an eye on your children, learn CPR and keep a telephone with emergency numbers near the pool.

Flowers • Overwatered hibiscus, purslane and bougainvillea won’t bloom. • Keep flowers pinched off of coleus and caladiums to encourage more of the beautiful foliage. • Plants to set: Acalpha, Ageratum, Alternathera, Aspidistra, Artemisia, Balsam, Begonia, Chrysanthemum, Cockscomb, Coleus, Croton, Dusty Miller, Feverfew, Gaillardia, Geranium, Marigold, Petunia, Pinks, Portulaca, Salvia-red, Shrimp Plant, Torenia, Verbena and Vinca. Vegetables • A strong blast of water in the morning rids plants of most bugs for the rest of the day. • Vegetables to plant: Cantaloupe, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Eggplant sets, Okra, Black Peas, Pepper Sets, Summer Squash and Sweet Potato. Shrubs • Watch Camellias and Azaleas, they’re setting their blooms now for next season. So give them a good mulch and plenty of water. Mulch well with oak leaves and/or pine needles to keep soil acidic.

GARDEN TIPS FOR JUNE
Lawns • Apply iron sulfate or chelete to St. Augustine grass lawns. • Mow St. Augustine to a 2-inch height now to protect roots from the sun. Never cut off more than a third of the leaf. • Continue treatment of lawns for chinch bug. As the temperature hits 80 degrees, chinch bugs begin to reproduce in the hottest and driest part of the lawn, usually next to cement. Use diazinon or dursban granules.
Benefits of Mulching: Mulching (organic or inorganic) is a layer of material on the surface of the soil around the plant. Mulches conserve water by reducing evaporation, insulates the soil and protects it from the drying wind and hot sun. Mulches break the force of rain and irrigation water and tend to prevent erosion, soil compaction, and crusting. Lastly, a 2-3 inch layer of mulch will almost eliminate weed problems.

ELEVENTH ANNUAL KATY ISD JUNIOR HIGH SUMMER BAND CAMP
Texas Christian School
Each year the four year olds through the eighth grade students at Texas Christian School become published authors! Students collaborated to write and illustrate their very own hardbound books. The students of Texas Christian School are celebrating the publication of their books in a big way. While writing their books, the students learned that hard work really does pays off and that writing is a lot of work. Students went through the entire process from first rough draft, many revisions and finally the publication process where they now own their very own book as the author. Texas Christian’s writing program is designed to motivate students to learn through publishing by enabling students to write, illustrate and publish full-color, hardbound books that they will enjoy for years. Texas Christian School is extremely proud of their student’s hard work and they look forward to many more books from their young authors.

The eleventh annual summer band camp, offered to next year’s 7th, 8th and 9th grade KISD band students, will be held at Seven Lakes High School from July 15th to July 19th. The camp will include daily section rehearsals, full band rehearsals and fun music based electives. Lunch is also part of the camp. The cost of the camp is $100 and will include a t-shirt if postmarked by June 7th. Late registration is an additional $25 if postmarked after June 7th. The camp concludes with the Grand Finale Concert on Friday morning at 9 AM. After the concert, those students wishing to extend the fun a little longer can join in the group’s optional trip to Splashtown Water Park in Spring, Texas for an additional $35 (park admission, meal, bus transportation and drinks are included in price) for a total camp cost of $135 ($160 after June 7th). The KISD JH Summer Band Camp has been a huge success each year and we anticipate a large enrollment this year. Plan to register early in order to secure a spot. Camp participants will audition for summer band camp placement the first day of camp, beginning promptly at 8 AM. Students should prepare major scales and chromatic scales specific to the student’s instrument, as well as a band camp audition etude. Students will be ability grouped with the number of bands being determined by total enrollment for the camp. Registration Form, Audition materials and Medical Form and Permission to Travel are to be downloaded by campers from the Katy ISD Fine Arts Webpage www.

Katy Rebels are TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS at Spring Madness Tourney in The Woodlands, TX
The 9th/10th Grade Katy Rebels - D’Addieco team continued their impressive start to the season with another 1st place finish in the March 30th Houston Premier Spring Madness tournament in The Woodlands, TX. After a shaky first half in the first game, the Rebels mounted a 14 point comeback in the second half and held on to win by 3 points. They won the championship against the host team by an impressive 22 points while battling foul trouble and physical play. Again, hustle and intensity, along with some clutch free throws, late game execution and a solid zone defense proved to be the difference. The team has demonstrated the ability to win gritty, close games, which should serve them well later in the season. Congratulations to Allison, LaShanda, Kim, Sydney, Natalia, Kayla, Anna, Delaney, Myangiel and Emily on another excellent tournament!

Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company announces its 2013-2014 season!
Foxfinder by Dawn King. US Amateur Premier - August 15-31, 2013. Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn award. William Bloor, a ‘foxfinder’, arrives at Sam and Judith Covey’s farm to investigate a suspected contamination. He is driven by his education and beliefs to unearth and destroy an animal that threatens man’s civilization and to remain free from its influence himself. As his investigations proceed, the events that follow change the course of all their lives - forever. Dawn King’s play won the 2011 Papatango New Writing Competition (in partnership with London’s Finborough Theatre). A darkly comic exploration of belief, desire and responsibility, set in a world both strange and familiar, from a striking new voice in British theatre. Carnival Round the Central Figure by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery.

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)
Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281-4974904 or visit our website, www.Decibelles.org

281-617-2231 Hosting a foreign exchange student is easier than you may think
During the 2012-2013 school year, students from all across the world will have the opportunity to travel to Houston and surrounding communities to spend the entire school year in the United States, learning and working with American Families. In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year. The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States. There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student. The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture. There are a few basic requirements, of course. Anyone older than 25 and can provide food and shelter for a student fulfills the requirements of being a host family. There is a background check, reference check and an interview. Background checks have to be done on everyone over 18 living in the home.
schools. Ayusa coordinators also handle the host family orientations and the student orientations. Group activities, such as community service and seeing things with the group of exchange students is also arrange throughout their academic year. With the current school year quickly coming to an end Ayusa’s local staff is busy looking for families for students for the 2013-2014 school year. Many families are needed and with the schools having deadlines and limits for foreign exchange students the earlier the better. It also gives the families and students time to get to know each other via skype, facebook, etc. while waiting for their year abroad to start. Please contact Heather Wells by email ayusakaty@gmail.com or by phone 281-770-3414.
Exchange Students From American Councils
The U.S. Department of State sponsors exchange programs that bring high school students from over 50 countries from all over the world in the United State for an academic year to live with an American host family, attend high school and learn about American society. American Councils is always looking for interested and excited host families to host one of their students. For more information, visit http://inbound.americancouncils.org or email inbound@americancouncils.org
The host families have to be interested in it for the right reasons, the cultural exchange of learning from them and them learning from us. It’s the language, the cooking, the music, the food. The host family has to be genuinely interested. Once the host families and students are matched, Ayusa stays involved by monthly contacts with the families, students and quarterly contacts with the

Texas has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S. StandUp For Kids needs supplies for our Houston program, which provides food, clothing, counseling and a safe environment for the homeless youth of Houston. Adopt A US Soldier
Adopt A US Soldier is a non-profit organization that seeks volunteers and donors to help show the brave men and women fighting for our freedom that their sacrifices will not go unnoticed. It connects supportive civilians with deployed soldiers and offers a channel by which to communicate encouragement and express gratitude to those serving in the United States Armed Forces. Adopt A US Soldier is sustained by its volunteer workforce located across the United States. After a supporter asked a soldier what they needed, his response was as follows: “No requests, just don’t want to be forgotten.” -LCPL O.J.T. III When registering for Adopt A US Soldier your involvement can range from writing letters and sending postcards, to mailing care packages full of items a soldier may need or want. Handwritten letters are most important and meaningful to soldiers. Adopt A US Soldier encourages civilians to adopt a soldier to show your support for those that are making sacrifices for our country. If interested, please go to www.adoptaussoldier.org to register.

(Paint mixing, pallets, brush choices, hand positions, perspective, shading, blending, etc.) All would be a great help to someone recovering from Aphasia. The times/days/number of students are all flexible. For more information, contact Stephanie Schmadeke, 713-628-9973 or to learn more about Aphasia, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphasia.
