There has been an increase of reported activity of ATV’s noted on the South Mayde Creek Hike and Bike Trail/Bayou. The off duty deputy was able to follow two people for a short period of time and then they disappeared into the surrounding subdivisions. He will be monitoring this activity and if any resident sees anyone riding an ATV or dirt bikes on the trail please, report this activity to the Constables Office at 281-463-6666. The Board ha received calls in reference to property damaged at a resident’s home. The Westlake Place HOA is not responsible or liable for any resident’s personal property; a report can be filed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. COMMUNITY CENTER/CLUBHOUSE, PAVILION They are available for usage by our resident’s and their guests. A $50 deposit for each one is required and refundable upon passing the exit inspection; contact Anita Ratliff at 832-814-7634, she is the only Board of Director authorized to take the deposit. CURFEW Most parents are unaware that Harris County has a curfew. Children under the age of 17 must be in at midnight (12 AM). Parent’s need to make sure that their children are at home the entire night. If children are caught wandering around at late hours after midnight, the Harris County Sheriff’s will give them a citation. This is a class C misdemeanor; both the child and the parent must appear in front of court and pay a fine. Usually it will take all day to take care of this and the fine may exceed $150. IWATCHHARRISCOUNTY Sheriff Adrian Garcia and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office have announced the launch of a free mobile application that allows citizens to turn in crime tips using their mobile device. iWatchHarrisCounty is a virtual crime watch program that empowers citizens across the county to report suspicious behaviors or activities by turning in tips as text messages and emails with image and video attachments and phone calls directly to the HCSO from almost any mobile phone or PC. Citizens can remain anonymous or may choose to disclose their identity. There are four ways to report crime tips: • Online at iWatchHarrisCounty.com • Text a tip to 1-855-HCSO-iWatch (1-855-427-6492) • Use the downloadable app found on iWatchHarrisCounty.com • Call 1-855-HCSO-iWatch (1-855-427-6492) iWatchHarrisCounty is for submitting crime tips only, not emergencies. Emergency calls should be made to 911. The HCSO is the first sheriff’s office in the country to use the iWatch mobile app. Almost everyone has a cell phone or a computer. Now you can use that mobile device, that technology, to help us prevent or solve crimes by sending us a tip from anywhere, anytime - if you see something, say something. The “If You See Something, Say Something” public awareness campaign was launched nationally last year by the Department of Homeland Security to raise awareness of indicators of terrorism and violent crime and to emphasize the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the proper law enforcement authorities. The iWatch application will allow the HCSO to receive, vet, track, forward and share crime tips within its own organization, as well as to push out tips, photos, videos and information to other agencies if applicable. OUR COMMUNITY SECURITY SUPPLEMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT
PATROL SERVICE REPORT
18 Years Trial Experience
CRIME IN THE SUBDIVISION
Westlake Place HOA-Board of Directors have hired off-duty deputies employed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, for our community. Having security does not mean you should not secure your own property or not be responsible for your own security. Take time to make sure your vehicles are locked, parked in the garage if you can. That is the safest place for your vehicle. Get to know your neighbors. Call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office if you see any suspicious vehicles/persons in the neighborhood. Notify the post office and paper delivery when you plan to be out of town. If you are going away from home for an extended period of time, contact the management company with an updated phone number for your file in case of an emergency. You can also fill out a vacation form with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The Association receives many reports of speeding drivers and drivers running stop signs in the community. Monitoring of stop signs has resulted in some citations issued and other citations for different traffic violations. For the safety of the community and residents walking, children playing, please follow the speed limit and make a full stop at each stop sign to ensure everyone’s safety. The deputies has been notified of the complaints/concerns voiced by the residents and will continue to monitor this activity with zero tolerance. Please remember if you see a crime in progress call 9-1-1 and report any suspicious persons or unusual activity. On-going activity can be reported to Gail Mayfield our Security Supplement Liaison at 281467-0548.

Here are the reports given: • It was reported a resident’s taillight on their vehicle had been broken. • It was reported an unknown suspect entered a residence and removed items. • It was also reported that someone was riding a dirt bike/ATV on the South Mayde Creek Trail. The trail and bridge are beautiful and for everyone to enjoy, so please report any unusual activity. By now I’m sure you’ve seen the increase of law enforcement presence in the subdivision on different days and hours of the week. So remember to abide by all traffic laws while driving through the subdivision. The Board’s number one priority is trying to keep the entire subdivision safer and informed.
REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES AND CRIMES
When you see suspicious activity and would like to file a report etc, call the non-emergency number. When a crime is in progress and or a human life is at risk call the 9-1-1. If at anytime someone observes a suspicious person or vehicle they should not hesitate reporting it to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. There are three ways to do this.

Some residents may feel a sighting such as this may be “nothing: yet it is better to be safe than sorry. Again, let’s be the eyes and ears for the law enforcement. Residents should not hesitate to call the number above to report ANY suspicious activity. Do not waste time calling any Board member in an attempt to contact our security patrol personnel. If they are on duty at the time of your call our patrolling deputy will be monitoring the radio dispatches and will respond in addition to the on-duty deputy. Too often, we hear about situations in which the Sheriff’s Office should have been called but the resident was reluctant to do this. When calling the above number, don’t be put off by the voice mail menu. Stick with it until you are connected to a person who is able to help. There have been several residents reporting crimes to the Board, which we encourage residents to continue this practice.
ARCHITECTURAL FORM/ HOME IMPROVEMENT FORM
All residents must complete a home improvement form for all improvements, including but not limited to: repainting (even the same color), re-roofing, new siding, sheds or outbuildings, new garage doors and basketball goals. The ACC approval must be given in advance prior to the work being started. We have specific guidelines for sheds and outbuildings. Call ACMP 281-855-9867 to request a form. Please mail to the ACMP address at the top of the form.

The trash pickup sticker you receive each quarter shows you have paid your invoice and are a valid customer. It contains your address and the expiration date. The sticker is designed to be placed on the trashcan please do not place these stickers on your mailbox. These stickers occasionally won’t stick even to a garbage can; use a heavyduty tape when this occurs. Trash will not be picked up if the sticker is not on the trashcan and they will not pick up the trash at your residence if you have not paid. Do not place these stickers on your mailbox. Do not leave your trashcans out for an extended period of time. Remove your cans from the street as soon as possible. The stickers and the trashcans might be stolen. Some of our residents are unclear on the concept of putting trashcans at the curb for collection days (Tuesday and Friday). Trash can be put out after 5 PM the night prior to the scheduled collection day.
POSTING OF GARAGE SALE SIGNS
Please be aware that taping a sign of any kind to a stop sign or a road sign IS AGAINST THE LAW and could result in our deputies issuing you a citation. The correct way in our subdivision is using a staked sign place your address, time and date and remove later on that day or as soon as the event is over. This is the only acceptable way to post such signs. If posting a sign on a resident’s property, please ask for prior permission as a courtesy. If a resident places a garage sale sign in median of the front or back entrance and if this results in any type of damage to the sprinkler system, you will be charged for any needed repairs. We are requesting that all residents limit your garage sales to no more than once a quarter - meaning four times a year only.
VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a treat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The

custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbored or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow them to become a stray.” Restraints are defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.
STREETLIGHT OUTAGES
Please report a burned out street light, any resident may call Center Point directly at 713–207-2222. However, for those with internet access, you may also make this report on-line. For those interested, the website address to do this is http://cnp.centerpointenergy. com/outage. Anyone noticing a streetlight that is out or some other malfunction is encouraged to report the problem to Center Point via either these two methods without delay. Our association is charged for every streetlight each month, irrespective of whether or not the light is functioning. So please help us get value for your hard earned money!

80 degrees, chinch bugs begin to reproduce in the hottest and driest part of the lawn, usually next to cement. Use diazinon or dursban granules. Flowers • Overwatered hibiscus, purslane and bougainvillea won’t bloom. • Keep flowers pinched off of coleus and caladiums to encourage more of the beautiful foliage. • Plants to set: Acalpha, Ageratum, Alternathera, Aspidistra, Artemisia, Balsam, Begonia, Chrysanthemum, Cockscomb, Coleus, Croton, Dusty Miller, Feverfew, Gaillardia, Geranium, Marigold, Petunia, Pinks, Portulaca, Salvia-red, Shrimp Plant, Torenia, Verbena and Vinca.
Vegetables • A strong blast of water in the morning rids plants of most bugs for the rest of the day. • Vegetables to plant: Cantaloupe, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Eggplant sets, Okra, Black Peas, Pepper Sets, Summer Squash and Sweet Potato. Shrubs • Watch Camellias and Azaleas, they’re setting their blooms now for next season. So give them a good mulch and plenty of water. Mulch well with oak leaves and/or pine needles to keep soil acidic. Benefits of Mulching: Mulching (organic or inorganic) is a layer of material on the surface of the soil around the plant. Mulches conserve water by reducing evaporation, insulates the soil and protects it from the drying wind and hot sun. Mulches break the force of rain and irrigation water and tend to prevent erosion, soil compaction, and crusting. Lastly, a 2-3 inch layer of mulch will almost eliminate weed problems.

Summer is almost here, which means pools will be opening for the summer. Please take time to review water safety with your children before they even enter the pool. e y
Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children age 14 and under. Believe it or not, the majority of children who drown do so in residential swimming pools while being cared for by one or both parents. In the time it takes you to run into the house to answer the phone, your child could drown - in as little as one inch of water.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you not install swimming pools at all until your children are over 5 years of age. If you do have a pool, install a four-sided fence, about 5 feet high, with a self-closing latch that’s out of the reach of children. In open bodies of water and on boats, always use personal flotation devices, making sure that they fit properly. But floats and swimming lessons often give parents a false sense of security; they’re no replacement for supervision. At community pools, do not solely lean on the lifeguards to supervise your children. You are your child’s best safety net. Keep an eye on your children, learn CPR and keep a telephone with emergency numbers near the pool.
