(BCS3) VOLUNTARY WATER CONSERVATION
Each of us has received an insert in our Harris County MUD 102 water bill asking that they observe the voluntary water conservation program that has been proposed for this area.
CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE: WWW.BCS3.ORG (BCS3) 2013 ANNUAL MEETING FOLLOW UP
The Board would like to thank everyone who either attended the Annual meeting or submitted their proxy for participation for this important meeting.
There are two simple rules with respect to this program:
The results of the election for the two open Director positions, as well as the Board member roles for 2013-1014 will be posted in next month’s newsletter.
Even numbered residences should water outdoors on Wednesdays and Sundays, while odd numbered residences should water outdoors on Tuesdays and Saturdays. No water should be used outdoors by any resident on Mondays. Water should not be used outdoors between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM and between the hours of 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
Congratulations! Class of 2013
Despite some heavy Spring rains, it is still anticipated that drought wconditions will persist throughout the summer.

Let’s all work together to conserve our water resources while maintaining our yards within the guidelines outlined by the Harris County MUD district.
(BCS3) BCS3 EMAIL LIST
In an effort to improve communications during the year within our small neigh borhood, the Board is continuing its efforts to update its email distribution list to include as many of the residents as possible. Email is the fastest and more effective way of keeping the BCS3 residents informed of neighborhood events, criminal activity and other important issues. In an effort to maintain confidentiality of individual email addresses, the Board always sends out email notices with resident addresses handled as “blind cc’s” to avoid widespread distribution. If you want to be included on future email distributions, please contact Mark Przywara (msp0007@yahoo.com or 832-4183409) and give him your contact information.
(BCS3) CONTACT THE BOARD
As is the case with everything in our small neighborhood, every resident should feel free to contact any Board member as to any issue or question that you have about BCS3. Contact information for all the Board members is located on the inside back cover of this publication.
CHARLESTOWN COLONY (CHC) YARD OF THE MONTH
Our May YOM winners are your neighbors at 5634 E. Towerglen Loop. What a beautiful job they have done with their landscaping. It’s so lush and neat and the pop of color from the flowers they have planted makes their yard really stand out. If you are out and about, please take a look. Thanks much to these neighbors and all of you who have been working so hard on your yards, it really shows!
Once again, the yard of the month is sponsored by Cornelius Nursery.
(CHC) NEW TREE AT THE PARK
Hopefully, you’ve noticed the new addition to the park on Charlestown Colony Drive in the recent weeks. We are excited to announce the addition of our new magnolia tree that is dedicated to the children who have been and will continue to be, a part of our Charlestown Colony family. This tree is located in the south end of the park and will be a beautiful addition for years to come. Take a walk and see the new tree. All the trees around the park area look so nice with fresh mulch.

(CHC) WATER CONSERVATION
Voluntary water conservation rules are still in effect. Our area of Texas is in a moderate drought. See http://droughtmonitor. unl.edu/monitor.html for more details. As of this writing our area is 6 inches behind on rainfall for this year. With rainfall below normal, another hot summer predicted and water rates ever increasing, now is the time to be serious about water conservation. Everyone should have received the publication from the West Harris County Regional Water Authority (dated March 2013). You can find a link to an electronic copy of the publication at: www.whcrwa.com/newsletter/index.html. Be patient as it takes a while to load. The publication talks about an increase in WHCRWA fees. We will have to wait and see how our MUD passes the fees on to residents. This publication is full of information. There is a water conservation challenge provided by Save Water Texas. Can you take the 10-gallon challenge? Can you use less water? One of the most common water conservation suggestions always involves turning off the faucet while brushing teeth or doing dishes. My grandmother’s response to running water while doing dishes was, “you wouldn’t let it run if you had to carry your own water.” With the advances of plumbing we all use more water now than was used way back then. Read the information in the WHCRWA about water conservation education with a Historical Twist. Maybe Horne Elementary can get the new “Mobile Teaching Lab” to come next fall. Want to teach your kids to save water (and save you money) before fall? Check out the Save Water Texas kids programs at www. savewatertexas.com/texaswaterhog/index.html.

While we all enjoy our garbage disposals, composting is another way to save water. You can find guidelines for what can and can’t go into a compost bin on the internet. Use the compost to help fertilize your garden. Composting reduces the amount of material going down your drains. Speaking of drains - fats, oil and grease should never be put down a drain or into the sewer. Should a clog occur in the sewer line between a home and the main sewer lines, the homeowner will be responsible for the repair bill. As a society we have become very indifferent to what we discard. As the world becomes a more crowded place, we all need to be sure to discarded waste in the proper place.
(CHC) TRASH TALK
When you are at the park, please use the trashcans for any trash. Trash not put in its proper place ends up blowing into neighbors’ yards. We try to keep a neat appearance to the neighborhood. When you put recycling out, please try to put newspapers toward the bottom of the bin to keep these from blowing around the neighborhood. Also, a reminder that Independence Day, July 4th, falls on a Thursday this year. That means there will not be trash pick-up on July 4th. Trash pick-up, along with recycling, will resume on Monday. For more information on waste pick-up you can check out Waste Corporation of Texas, www.wcawaste.com/Houston.

(CHC) VACATION PLANS
As summer gets into full swing and vacation plans are made, be sure to let a trusted neighbor know when you will be away. Remember to stop the mail (can be done on-line at https:// holdmail.usps.com/holdmail/ or at the post office, 3 day minimum). Either stop newspaper delivery (https://myaccount. houstonchronicle.com/Login.aspx and log into your account) or arrange for someone to keep them from collecting in front of your house. There no longer is a credit for undelivered newspapers. Our experience is that the newspaper never stopped coming, even though we requested a stop, so we just have someone pick up the newspaper. There is a great video online at www.howcast.com/videos/369734-How-to-SecureYour-Home-while-Youre-on-Vacation with some simple tips on securing your home. One simple suggestion you might not think of is to lock your garage doors from the inside, then unplug the garage door opener. This prevents someone from using a decoder and entering your garage and home. Planning a “stay-cation?” Don’t forget all the great things to do and see right here in the Houston/Galveston area. There are outdoor Recommended by activities (pools, water parks, baseball games, the Zoo, Miller Outdoor Theater (free! but donations Tom Tynan, accepted), as well as indoor activities with museums for all SportsRadio am ages and 610 interests.

If you are painting, be sure to attach your color choices to the form when you submit it! The process is easy, quick and can save you money. By submitting the form and requesting approval prior to your project, you are protected. The forms are to be submitted any time you are making changes to your property (house, fence, yard). While the request says to allow 30 days for approval, turnaround time for a request is pretty quick - usually not more than a week or two. Find the form at www.scsmgmt.com/Acc-App.scs.pdf.

Many new neighbors have been storing their garbage cans in view from the street. This is in violation of the deed restrictions and appropriate actions are subject to corrective action. Also, please remember to place garbage curbside after 6 PM the night before pickup.

You can set up a payment plan for 2013, if necessary. Remember that your homeowner assessment accrued late fees & penalties after January 31st. You can send a check to ACMP (ACMP, Inc., 16650 Pine Forest Lane, Houston, TX 77084) or you can pay online at www. jamestowncolony.com (if you pay online, you are responsible for any service fees for your online payment). To arrange a payment plan, contact ACMP at 281-855-9867. This is the last year of the increased assessment (to pay off the cost of replacing most of the perimeter fence). (JC) GREEN TIPS
Good use for old t-shirts (sorry this wasn’t in last month’s Green Tips as promised!) Don’t throw away those old t-shirts! Make them into reusable shopping bags! Place the t-shirt on a flat surface. Cut off each sleeve about 1/2 to 3/4 inch outside the sleeve seam (on the sleeve itself, not on the body of the shirt). Then, place a dinner plate over the head opening & mark around its edges. Cut on the mark; this is the opening of your bag. Finally, turn the shirt inside out and sew the front and back of the bottom hem of the shirt together. It’s best if you do this in the seam allowance to make the bag sturdier. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand-stitch the seam using doubled thread and close stitches. To make an extra strong bag, put two shirts together and whip stitch the neck and arm cuts together. Poof! You’ve got a new shopping bag! Is Your Current Mortgage Rate For:

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through June. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

HOMEMADE MOSQUITO TRAP (YES, IT’S SKEETER TIME!)
1. Cut a plastic 2-liter bottle in two, halfway between the bottom and the top. 2. Mix 1/4 cup of brown sugar with 1 cup of hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the 2-liter bottle. 3. Add 1 gram of yeast. No need to mix. One packet of Fleischman’s active dry yeast is usually 1/4 ounce or 7 grams, so just a pinch is enough and you’ll have plenty left over from the packet for subsequent refills for your trap (put the leftover yeast packet in a ziplock bag and place in your refrigerator). 4. Place the funnel (top) part of the bottle, upside down, into the bottom half of the bottle, making sure the opening doesn’t extend into the water mixture. Tape the two halves of the bottle together securely with electrical (black) tape so there are no gaps. The black color attracts mosquitoes. 5. Place the trap in an area outside that is away from your normal gathering/activities area. 6. Change the solution every 2 weeks.
(JC) EASY WAY TO REPORT STREET LIGHT OUTAGES
Instead of waiting for the CenterPoint Energy Business Office to open, report the burned out street lights while you’re thinking of it. Go to www.centerpointenergy.com/services/ electricity/residential/reportastreetlightoutage and fill in the information. Remember, the HOA pays for these lights whether they’re burning or not, so you might, as well have them burning.
Skeeter repellent - Slice a lime in half and press about 10-12 whole cloves into each half. Place in your gathering area. This only works if the smell of cloves doesn’t repel you and your guests too! 8

Turn on outside and inside lights by use of sensors or timers. Remove flyers immediately from doors and mailboxes. Whenever possible, monitor your outgoing mail or place into a Postal Drop Box. Retrieve incoming mail as soon as possible. Use a trusted neighbor when possible to help you. Never leave valuable items openly displayed in your vehicle while parked outside or unattended. Always secure your vehicle and set your car alarm. Reminder: Do not attach signs of any kind to the YTC Surveillance Security Camera Poles without written consent from the H.O.A. Please report observed criminal activities, suspicious vehicles and suspicious persons to the Sheriff Department immediately at 713-221-6000.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA COPPERHEAD DISTRICT For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities that allow them to: • Try new things. • Provide service to others. • Build self-confidence. • Reinforce ethical standards. Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made. Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years

free from its influence himself. As his investigations proceed, the events that follow change the course of all their lives - forever. Dawn King’s play won the 2011 Papatango New Writing Competition (in partnership with London’s Finborough Theatre). A darkly comic exploration of belief, desire and responsibility, set in a world both strange and familiar, from a striking new voice in British theatre. CARNIVAL ROUND THE CENTRAL FIGURE by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery. Each year the four year olds through the eighth grade students at Texas Christian School become published authors! Students collaborated to write and illustrate their very own hardbound books. The students of Texas Christian School are celebrating the publication of their books in a big way. While writing their books, the students learned that hard work really does pays off and that writing is a lot of work. Students went through the entire process from first rough draft, many revisions and finally the publication process where they now own their very own book as the author. Texas Christian’s writing program is designed to motivate students to learn through publishing by enabling students to write, illustrate and publish full-color, hardbound books that they will enjoy for years. Texas Christian School is extremely proud of their student’s hard work and they look forward to many more books from their young authors.

PET OF THE MONTH, RED The heat and sun were just too much. So, I broke the chain and hit the road. I stopped at the office supply store and went on in, but nobody seemed very excited to see me. Thankfully, a kind lady was passing by and offered me a ride. My medical exam, shots and heartworm treatment are behind me now with no lasting damage and I am looking for my real forever family. Call me a love bug – I adore humans in all shapes and sizes. I roll over for tummy rubs and want to snuggle on the couch for movie night. Other dogs are ok, but I would rather have my people close by. Cats are very interesting, and given my lineage, I do want to give chase. Things I love: long walks, rawhide chewies and lots of hugs. FAREWELL SENIORS!....CYPRESS FALL HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR We have had an outstanding year!!! Newsweek magazine noted us as one of the best public high schools in the nation! Most effective in turning out college ready graduates. All of our choirs received “ones,” superior ratings, which no other high school choir has achieved this year. And all due to our fantastic students under the exceptional direction of Mrs. Deidre Douglas and Matt Perez. The choir banquet this year, held at Northwest Forrest Conference Center, was a huge success. Masquerade Ball was the theme on May 17th, as many adorned elaborate masks or displayed their own facial perfection! The students always shine so bright when they dress up. A huge thank you to Sandra Greer for organizing and decorating for the event. It was a magical evening as the exiting student choir board presented their successors; they will no doubt carry on in commanding 24
style. The power point presentation of past events and happenings is always a delight, as the students recall fond times throughout their training, performing and enjoyment. May 24th found the school taking over as the all choir lock-in took place. The games they come up with are such a blast and statue is always a favorite. Food consumed by the pound and fun exploding through the evening. Thanks to all who participated, as it all occurs because of you! Schlitterbahn was high school city on the 25th as our students and chaperones, along with some other schools, took over the water city. The cool waters are always so refreshing and the technology of the water runs/coasters is always amazing and enjoyed. Who can go wrong with fun AND sun? It was a quite ride home and no doubt, there were heavy sleepers that night!
