Pool season is finally here so bring your family to the pool and have fun. We’ve made improvements such as extending the covered patio area, new patio furniture and easier access to the splash pad from the pool area. In addition, we’ll be working with a new pool management company. If you can’t find your pool pass, contact KPM Management at 281-685-3090 for a replacement or obtain additional cards for a nominal fee. However, if you’re new to our community and didn’t receive your pass, please contract KPM Management. Here in Raintree Village, we take pride in our homes and our pool. With our new pool management company, a fresh group of lifeguards are charged with maintaining safety and minimizing unruly behavior, so please remember they are in charge. Additionally, young children should not be left unattended at the pool. Furthermore, there’s no smoking allowed at the pool.
RAINTREE VILLAGE RECYCLES
Our community participates in recycling through our trash services company. Yet, it’s been brought to our attention that not all residents are aware of this opportunity. Residents may contact Royal Disposal at 713-526-1536 to obtain a recycle bin. The following items may be placed in the recycle bin and placed for pickup on trash days (Tuesdays & Fridays): • newsprint • corrugated cardboard • office and computer paper • mixed paper • plastics • magazines • telephone directories • aluminum cans and scrap The HOA needs to hear from you regarding the program. Do you recycle? If so, how often do you use the recycle bin? Would you like the option of receiving a larger bin (size of a regular trashcan)? Where would you store a recycle bin of this size? SATELLITE DISHES
It’s come to HOA’s attention that the installation of satellite dishes on some homes violates the deed restrictions. Satellites are expected to be installed out of sight of public view. The Association appreciates residents taking the time to ensure compliance.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Last year, the HOA sponsored several community events whereby neighbors can come out get to know each other and have fun. This year, the same events have been budgeted but to ensure even greater success we need the assistance of volunteers. TIPS TO REDUCE YOUR RISK OF BURGLARY DURING THE SUMMER
Since the holiday season is around the corner, the list includes simple reminders towards minimizing our exposure to crime. 1. Don’t keep Garage door openers in the car, take them in the house with you; a garage door opener makes it easier for someone to enter your garage or house to remove personal property. 2. Keep all shrubs and plants at a level low enough that passing by officers or other residents can see if someone is lurking in those bushes! Shrubs should also be trimmed high enough to show “feet” of someone hiding in them. 3. Have keys in hand before leaving the store, house or office avoiding standing by the car searching for them. 4. Don’t leave ladders on the side of the house or in the back yard. Ladders provide easy access to open second floor windows and no one will be able to see. 5. Make sure you close blinds when you are inside at night with the lights on, potential burglars can see right inside and know who is at home. 6. Use sensor lights outside the home. It deters criminals by “spot lighting” their efforts to enter your home. 7. Use double key locks: locks that require a key from the outside and from the inside. 8. Repair any broken areas of your fence reducing the access of potential burglars or mischievous kids. 9. When on vacation, let your neighbor(s) know so they can keep an eye out for suspicious activity. 10. When on vacation, keep yards mowed and trimmed, burglars spend a lot of time in a neighborhood looking for their next targets. Overgrown yards are a sure sign no one’s home.

TRASH PICKUP SERVICES
Royal Waste Management encourages residents to call in complaints regarding trash pickup. The crews are participating in a competition whereby the best crew receives a cash bonus at yearend. All complaints are taken seriously and posted internally for all crews to view. Additionally, the crew suffers deductions for each complaint. If you have a complaint regarding the trash service, contact Charles Gregory (Operations Manager) at 713-526-1536. Let’s be mindful that as residents, we must do our part by placing waste in trash bags. If you can’t lift the bag or trash receptacle it’s too full. You should consider breaking up your trash into more bags. We encourage you to remove all trash receptacles from curbside before you retire in the evenings. Additionally, the crew cannot pickup paint and other hazardous materials. You must take such items either to a Harris County or City of Houston hazardous waste dumpsite.

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.

Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. THE STANDING RULES FOR RAINTREE VILLAGE HOA BOARD MEETINGS
The Board of Directors feels it serves you best when the Board meetings are conducted in an orderly manner. The HOA Board Meetings are held to conduct Association business. Your cooperation in this regard is requested. Parliamentary Procedure is followed at this Meeting. There are two sessions at the HOA Board Meetings, an open session when members may be present and an executive session when no members are permitted. Board Meeting will begin with the open session at 7:00 PM until 7:15 PM when that time slot has been filled, members must wait until the next month’s meeting to be placed on the agenda. Your opinion is important to the Board of Directors. The Board desires to hear from Members who have information concerning the Association. During the portion of the Meeting in which the Chair accepts questions or comments from the floor, please proceed in the following manner. 1. If you wish to address the Board, please contact the Board at least 10 days prior to Meeting to be added to the agenda. You also have to state the topic to be discussed and stay on that topic only. 2. Any Member wishing to address the Board shall speak no more than two (2) minutes. 3. No Member may speak more than once on the subject and no more than two (2) minutes, until all Members who wish to speak have done so.

6. Members in attendance are not permitted to engage in private discussions during the open session and must remain quite or leave the meeting room. 7. Violations of these Standing Rules will not be tolerated. Violators may be requested to leave the Meeting.

We want all of our streetlights to work. A lighted area is a safer area. If a streetlight is out in your area, please go to www.centerpointenergy. com and report it. Once on the website, click on “electricity” then” residential.” On the left side, you should click on “report a streetlight outage” to enter the required information. Each light pole should have a number on it. When reporting the out or malfunctioning light, give them the pole number, closest street address, contact information, an email address and the number of street lights you would like to report.
GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY
• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

MEN’S OUTWARD FLAG FOOTBALL: Come join men 18 yrs and older for our men’s Outward Flag Football league coming this fall. Practice/Games will be on Saturday afternoons around 2:00 PM. The league will have a tournament at the conclusion of the season. UPWARD SOCCER, UPWARD FLAG FOOTBALL & CHEERLEADING: Bear Creek Baptist Church is offering Upward Soccer, Flag Football and Cheerleading this Fall. We will be having Upward Soccer for children 4 yrs. By September 1, 2013 through 6th Grade. Our Flag Football and Cheerleading will be for children in K this year through 6th Grade. Register before school starts. Our first evaluation is before school starts. Each child needs to attend an evaluation, not for the whole two hours, but for about 20 min. This year we have an early special price of $70 for those that register before August 18th. We have our first evaluation on Saturday, August 17th from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the back fields behind our parking lot. Our next evaluations will be Tuesday and Thursday, September 4th and 6th from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. On Saturday, September 8th between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Cost is $75. Our practices will begin the week of September 23rd. Our first games will be October 5th and go through November 16th.

Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) announces their 2013 Summer Performing Arts Camps. This summer, the HFAC’s Actors Academy is offering 25 different 1 and 3-week performing arts camps for grades 1-12. HFAC camps run June 10 through August 24, 2013 and feature acting, singing and dance instruction, as well as performance opportunities in musicals, dramas and comedies especially designed for kids and teens. The HFAC Actors Academy 3-week Musical Theatre Performance Camps for grades 1-6 and 4-8 are Honk, Jr, The Hobbit, Pinocchio and Once on this Island, Jr. HFAC is offering eleven 1-week camps for grades 1-6 that include “Clowning Around,” “Acting Up Improv,” “Imagination Theatre,” “Disney Magic,” “Lights of Broadway,” “American Idol Boot Camp,” “Triple Threat,” “Fractured Fairy Tales,” “Dancing through the Decades,” “Melodrama Madness” and “Glee.” HFAC has numerous performance opportunities for teens in grades 7-12. We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping.

One A-Chord is an interdenominational men’s and women’s singing group with a music ministry to the elderly in Katy and West Houston. Ayusa, a non-profit organization that promotes global learning and leadership through cultural exchange and leadership programs for high school students from around the world, is looking for American families in the Houston and surrounding areas interested in sharing their America with international high school students for the 20132014 school year. Applications for interested host families are currently being accepted. Ayusa foreign exchange students come from more than 60 countries, are fully insured, bring their own spending money and are proficient in English.
