SUMMER PROJECTS The Board has made repairs and replacement of several support beams, that were extremely rotten around the pool pavilion. The sprinkler system was inoperable for some time now it was necessary to repair, the sprinkler system is repaired and operable, at this time. The sidewalk in front of the entrance to the pool area was replaced due to many unsafe cracks and unsafe unleveling of the previous sidewalk. The Board will be reviewing quotes on new picnic tables, furniture for the pool and umbrellas in the very near future. The Board is planning to install two new light poles to be added to the park area to replace the old ones which had rusted out and were not safe.

Westlake Place HOA-Board of Directors have hired off-duty deputies employed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, for our community. Having security does not mean you should not secure your own property or not be responsible for your own security. Take time to make sure your vehicles are locked, parked in the garage if you can. That is the safest place for your vehicle. Get to know your neighbors. Call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office if you see any suspicious vehicles/persons in the neighborhood. Notify the post office and paper delivery when you plan to be out of town. If you are going away from home for an extended period of time, contact the management company with an updated phone number for your file in case of an emergency. You can also fill out a vacation form with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. PATROL SERVICE REPORT The Association receives many reports of speeding drivers and drivers running stop signs in the community. Monitoring of stop signs has resulted in some citations issued and other citations for different traffic violations. For the safety of the community and residents walking, children playing, please follow the speed limit and make a full stop at

each stop sign to ensure everyone’s safety. The deputies has been notified of the complaints/concerns voiced by the residents and will continue to monitor this activity with zero tolerance. Please remember if you see a crime in progress call 9-1-1 and report any suspicious persons or unusual activity. On-going activity can be reported to Gail Mayfield our Security Supplement Liaison at 281-467-0548. CRIME IN THE SUBDIVISION Here are the reports given: • A resident advised a known suspect did a drive-by shooting at his residence. • It was reported a resident’s rims and tires were taken and the vehicle was placed on blocks. • It was also reported that a couple of residents had their windows and or screens damaged and property removed from the residence. Always make sure to secure your belongings and lock your vehicle and if at all possible park your vehicle in the garage. By now I’m sure you’ve seen the increase of law enforcement presence in the subdivision on different days and hours of the week. So remember to abide by all traffic laws while driving through the subdivision. The Board’s number one priority is trying to keep the entire subdivision safer and informed. REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES AND CRIMES When you see suspicious activity and would like to file a report etc, call the non-emergency number. When a crime is in progress and or a human life is at risk call the 9-1-1. If at anytime someone observes a suspicious person or vehicle they should not hesitate reporting it to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. There are three ways to do this.

the law enforcement. Residents should not hesitate to call the number above to report ANY suspicious activity. Do not waste time calling any Board member in an attempt to contact our security patrol personnel. If they are on duty at the time of your call our patrolling deputy will be monitoring the radio dispatches and will respond in addition to the onduty deputy. Too often, we hear about situations in which the Sheriff’s Office should have been called but the resident was reluctant to do this. When calling the above number, don’t be put off by the voice mail menu. Stick with it until you are connected to a person who is able to help. There have been several residents reporting crimes to the Board, which we encourage residents to continue this practice.

CRIME STOPPERS

The Board has joined Crime Stoppers for this year. We will be getting updated information. Signs have been posted on the front and back entrance of the subdivision. Mission Statement Crime Stoppers of Houston’s mission is to solve and prevent serious crime in the Greater Houston area in partnership with citizens, media and the criminal justice system. History of Crime Stoppers The original Crime Stoppers program was created in 1976 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Citizens were encouraged to call in crime tips and promised anonymity and cash rewards. Crime Stoppers of Houston was established in 1981 by a group of local business owners responding to the growing crime rate. Our program quickly became a world leader in helping law enforcement solve and prevent felony crime. Our Purpose Crime Stoppers of Houston operates 713-222-TIPS, a telephone tip line. Information about criminal activity is received and transferred to law enforcement for immediate action. Callers are promised anonymity and cash rewards of up to $5,000 in exchange for their accurate crime tips. Our organization provides a safe forum for citizens to report crime in their neighborhoods without the fear of retaliation. We are the eyes and ears of law enforcement in the community.

ARCHITECTURAL FORM/ HOME IMPROVEMENT FORM

All residents must complete a home improvement form for all improvements, including but not limited to: repainting (even the same color), re-roofing, new siding, sheds or outbuildings, new garage doors and basketball goals. The ACC approval must be given in advance prior to the work being started. We have specific guidelines for sheds and outbuildings. Call ACMP 281-855-9867 to request a form. Please mail to the ACMP address at the top of the form.

TRASH PICK-UP STICKERS BELONG ON TRASH CANS

The trash pickup sticker you receive each quarter shows you have paid your invoice and are a valid customer. It contains your address and the expiration date. The sticker is designed to be placed on the trashcan please do not place these stickers on your mailbox. These stickers occasionally won’t stick even to a garbage can; use a heavyduty tape when this occurs. Trash will not be picked up if the sticker is not on the trashcan and they will not pick up the trash at your residence if you have not paid. Do not place these stickers on your mailbox. Do not leave your trashcans out for an extended period of time. Remove your cans from the street as soon as possible. The stickers and the trashcans might be stolen. Some of our residents are unclear on the concept of putting trashcans at the curb for collection days (Tuesday and Friday). Trash can be put out after 5 PM the night prior to the scheduled collection day.

POSTING OF GARAGE SALE SIGNS

Please be aware that taping a sign of any kind to a stop sign or a road sign IS AGAINST THE LAW and could result in our deputies issuing you a citation. The correct way in our subdivision is using a staked sign place your address, time and date and remove later on that day or as soon as the event is over. This is the only acceptable way to post such signs. If posting a sign on a resident’s property, please ask for prior permission as a courtesy. If a resident places a garage sale sign in

4

median of the front or back entrance and if this results in any type of damage to the sprinkler system, you will be charged for any needed repairs. We are requesting that all residents limit your garage sales to no more than once a quarter - meaning four times a year only.

VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a treat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbored or keep any unlicensed dog or cat or to allow them to become a stray.” Restraints are defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question or 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle or 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.

STREETLIGHT OUTAGES

Please report a burned out street light, any resident may call Center Point directly at 713–207-2222. However, for those with internet access, you may also make this report on-line. For those interested, the website address to do this is http://cnp.centerpointenergy.com/ outage. Anyone noticing a streetlight that is out or some other malfunction is encouraged to report the problem to Center Point via

either these two methods without delay. Our association is charged for every streetlight each month, irrespective of whether or not the light is functioning. So please help us get value for your hard earned money!

GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY

• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

Theater/Fine Arts MILDRED’S UMBRELLA THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES ITS 2013-2014 SEASON!

FOXFINDER by Dawn King. US Amateur Premier - August 15-31, 2013. Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn award. William Bloor, a ‘foxfinder,’ arrives at Sam and Judith Covey’s farm to investigate a suspected contamination. He is driven by his education and beliefs to unearth and destroy an animal that threatens man’s civilization and to remain free from its influence himself. As his investigations proceed, the events that follow change the course of all their lives - forever. Dawn King’s play won the 2011 Papatango New Writing Competition (in partnership with London’s Finborough Theatre). A darkly comic exploration of belief, desire and responsibility, set in a world both strange and familiar, from a striking new voice in British theatre. CARNIVAL ROUND THE CENTRAL FIGURE by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive thinking, desperate chit chat and the existential fears we all harbor about the end moments of life - the great mystery. MUSEUM OF DYSFUNCTION IV - December 6-14, 2013. Short plays from 200 writers who submitted from all over the US and were chosen by a panel. Co-produced by Wordsmyth Theatre. ROME by John Harvey - World Premier - March 6-22, 2014. This original script is being written by local playwright, John Harvey, workshopped by designers, musicians and actors, video documented over a year and presented as a collaborative effort as our final play in the season. Located at Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street, Houston, TX 77007. All performances begin at 8 PM. Price - $18 regular/ $10 students and seniors. Pay as you can on Mondays and $25 for opening night with a party immediately after the show. More info/reservations: www.mildredsumbrella.com - info@ mildredsumbrella.com or 832-463-0409.
