BERKSHIRE WEBSITE Please be sure to visit the Berkshire website at www.berkshirecai.com and sign up to “Join Our Mailing List.” Check the website often for community updates, events and other important community information. Information on the recycling program is on the Website.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY If you notice any suspicious activity in the community, please call the Harris County Sheriff ’s Department nonemergency number at 713-221-6000 and provide as many details as possible.
HOME SECURITY TIPS DOORS: • Use your locks - a lock is only useful if you use it. • Make sure your doorways are visible from the street and not obscured by shrubs, etc. WINDOWS: • Make sure your windows have good locking mechanisms. • Make sure windows are visible from the street and not obscured by shrubs, etc. 2
LANDSCAPE: • Keep trees and shrubbery trimmed to prevent concealment for a potential burglar. LIGHTING: • Timers on lights give your house the lived-in look while you are away. ALARMS: • Remember, like a lock, an alarm is only valuable if you use it.
TRASH IN & AROUND THE COMMUNITY We have a contractor on property every Thursday who does odd jobs and picks up trash around the community. The problem with trash in and around the community is increasing. Please help us keep the community clean by not littering and taking the time to pick up any trash you notice on your street and/or around your home. We have a volunteer in the community who is interested in starting a “Clean Up Committee” to assist with this problem. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact PCMI.
PARKING ON THE STREET The Association receives numerous complaints a day regarding cars parked in the street. Parking in the street not only looks bad but also creates a safety hazard. Please refrain from parking in the street as it is against the Deed Restrictions. Vehicles should be parked in the garage or in the driveway at all times.
RUNNING A BUSINESS FROM YOUR HOME The Association has become aware of some homeowners running a business from their home. Please note that the Berkshire community is a “single family” home community and running a business from your home is strictly prohibited. These homes are being monitored by our contracted Harris County Sheriff, as well as our property manager. Be advised that the Board of Directors will take all measures, including legal action, to see that this practice is stopped.
GRAFFITI Please report any graffiti you may see in the community to PCMI.

Trashcans MUST be stored out of public view except on days of trash pick up. Also, please remember to remove trashcans from the curb in a timely manner after trash pick up.
FLAT CURBS Please refrain from parking vehicles on the flat curbs. Vehicles parked on the curbs eventually cause damage and deterioration. Further note that storage of vehicles on streets or within road right-of-way is specifically prohibited.

NOTICE TO PET OWNERS We love dogs - we really do. That’s why the association is committed to enforcing the county leash law on association property. According to the U.S. Humane Society, an unleashed dog has an average life span of less than four years. Allowing your dog to run free threatens your dog’s health and welfare and the happiness it brings to you. We also love our community. That’s another reason the association is committed to enforcing the county leash law - so all residents may enjoy our community. We trust we can count on you for voluntary compliance with the leash law. We don’t like to call animal control, but we won’t have any choice if your dog is running free.

GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY
• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

LOST YOUR PET?
Veterinary Public Health DIVISION (Formerly called Harris County Animal Control) The Veterinary Public Health Division posts photos of all animals found on their website and updates it twice daily. If you have lost your pet, please check this website. www.countypets.com.
VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH DIVISION
HARRIS COUNTY LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Veterinary Public Health (formerly called Harris County Animal Control) advises that “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.”

While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.
PET HOTLINE NEWS A very important thing you can do is have a collar with some form of ID and your phone number on it. Pet stores have special ID’s for your pets. Many pet owners are now “chipping” the pets. If found and taken to a vet they can scan chip and find the owner. If your pet has a rabies tag, the vet has your name and #. The first thing I ask a caller is “does the pet have ID on it.” If it does, I will help contact the # on the ID and get the pet to it’s owner ASAP. Or the owner can pick up their lost pet. Having an ID on a pet makes life easier for all. Marie Nugent - 281-859-1104

With warm weather and family events, the Fourth of July can be a fun time with great memories. But before your family celebrates, make sure everyone knows about fireworks safety. • Kids should never play with fireworks! • Buy only legal fireworks and store them in a cool, dry place. • Never try to make your own fireworks. • Always use fireworks outside and have a bucket of water and a hose nearby in case of accidents. • Steer clear of others. Never throw or point fireworks at someone, even in jest. • Don’t hold fireworks in your hand or have any part of your body over them while lighting. Wear some sort of eye protection and avoid carrying fireworks in your pocket. • Point fireworks away from homes and keep away from brush and leaves and flammable substances. • Light one firework at a time (not in glass or metal containers) and never relight a dud. • Don’t allow kids to pick up pieces of fireworks after an event. Soak all fireworks in a bucket of water before throwing them in the trashcan. • Think about your pet. Keep pets indoors to reduce the risk that they’ll run loose or get injured.

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)
• Oral Surgery & Wisdom Teeth • Dental Implant Surgery • Conscious Sedation • Digital X-rays with reduced radiation
Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle!
We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281-4974904 or visit our website, www.Decibelles.org.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through July.
