HAVE A FUN AND SAFE 4 OF JULY CELEBRATION! TH

Remember our troops and their families during the celebration of this great nation’s birth. Without their sacrifices, these celebrations would not be possible.

USE FIREWORKS RESPONSIBLY Fireworks are legal in the unincorporated areas of Harris County. It is imperative that we use them responsibly. Following are some common sense rules for fireworks. • Do not hold them in your hand while lighting. • Do not allow small children to light them. • Do not point them at people, pets, homes or vehicles. • Light them one at a time. • Keep a water hose and bucket of water nearby. • Soak all fireworks in a bucket of water before putting in the trash. Pets are often frightened by the sound of fireworks and may run off or hurt themselves or others when scared. Keep them indoors during the celebrations. Place them in a secure and safe area. A radio or television playing in the room with them can help distract them from the unusual sounds.

SUMMER HAZARDS Summer, a time for the kids to enjoy time off from school, but it brings out some hazards as well. We live in a rural type community and there are some dangerous critters around. Please enjoy the walking trails, but be aware of snakes. Poisonous snakes live in and around the wet areas. Also when out at dusk or dawn, please use an insect repellent. We have had rain and the mosquitoes are out in abundance. One of the delightful results of the recent rains is an increase in the lightning bugs (southern name) or fireflies as some know them. In the edges of the wooded area they have been seen often recently. It’s a great reminder of my youth.

HURRICANE SEASON Hurricane season began June 1st and runs through November 30th. Are you prepared for a weather emergency? In the event of an emergency, listen to local emergency officials: KTRH-AM 740 is the designated Emergency Alert Station for the Houston area. There are six basics you should stock for your home: water, food, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, tools and emergency supplies. There are also some special items to help pass the time. Keep the items that you would most likely need during an evacuation in an easy to carry container. Possible containers include a large, covered trash container, a camping backpack or a duffle bag. For a complete list of suggested items, check at www.redcross.org/ services. To get copies of American Red Cross Community Disaster Education materials, contact your local Red Cross chapter at 713-526-8300.

Happy Birthday America !!!

ADDITIONAL BUSINESS Mrs. Cutlip advised that the crape myrtles were not trimmed, the seasonal color was not installed and the repairs at the Hampton Falls entrance had yet to be completed. The Board expressed their concern with the new landscaper and the services provided. HARRIS COUNTY ALARM PERMIT

A permit is required for all alarms in Harris County. Obtaining the required permit will avoid the issuance of a citation and excessive false alarm fees. The permit application can be downloaded from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office website at www.hcso.hctx.net and click on forms. The application should be completed and mailed with the appropriate fees to the address shown on the application. A new permit will cost $35 and annual renewals are $10. Should you have any questions, please contact the Alarm Detail office at 713-755-4600 during normal business hours.

DEED RESTRICTIONS

Deed restrictions are in place to maintain continuity within the neighborhood. Without these standards, a home could be left in disrepair or abandoned and could become a plight to our neighborhood. At entrances to the neighborhood, there are signs declaring deed restrictions are strictly enforced and when you purchased the home you were given a copy of the deed restrictions. Please remember, this is a legal document in place to protect the value of your home. Crest Management handles most of the business transactions for Concord Bridge under the direction of your Board of Directors. If you don’t understand any correspondence from Crest Management, please call for clarification. The homeowners association pays for all correspondence related to deed restrictions; therefore, duplicate letters cost you and me additional fees. Do not ignore correspondence from Crest Management!

CONCORD BRIDGE PET HOTLINE

The pet hotline at www.concordbridgepethotline.com is no longer in service. You can still contact them at 281-4689414 and on the new Facebook account, Concord Bridge Pet Hotline. If you don’t have access to Facebook, you can call 281-468-9414. Please note, Harris County requires that all pets be on a leash or confined within your yard.

BOY SCOUTS

Hunter Britsch and his sister Karsyn perform at a fundraising concert in his backyard benefiting CAM.

BOY SCOUT’S MUSIC CONCERT FUNDRAISER EARNS NEARLY $1,000 FOR CAM When Hunter Britsch, a sixteen-year-old sophomore at CyRanch High School and Fairfield resident, began planning his Boy Scout Eagle Project fundraiser, he wisely decided to tap into his own musical talent as a singer-songwriter. The result was an extraordinary music concert held on May 18th in Britsch’s own back yard that was attended by over 100 people. Performed by a unique ensemble of professional and amateur musicians, the concert raised almost $1,000 for Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM). Donations of more than 50 pounds of non-perishable food items and toiletries were also collected at the concert and given to CAM. Britsch is a member of Explorer Post 1475 sponsored by the Fairfield Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 12

Performing at the concert were two professional musicians, Abbey Hickman and Rod Branch and one former professional musician, Lisa Hickman, who played along with five accomplished musicians from Cy-Ranch High School, one Salyards Middle School vocalist and Britsch. A professional photographer, Lloyd Toby Dawson, volunteered to take pictures at the event. Refreshments for the audience were prepared by eight members of Explorer Post 1475. Michael Lucas emceed the concert. The concert, however, was only the beginning. It was followed on Saturday, May 25th, by a service project to resuscitate the landscaping at CAM’s pantry. Britsch walked the grounds, took pictures and made plans. He was able to recruit 19 volunteers to clean up and beautify the grounds and the materials were purchased with funds raised by the concert. Britsch would like to make the concert an annual event. Submitted by Chris Fults Photo provided by Lloyd Toby Dawson (with permission)

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ? We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through July. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.

FUNDRAISERS YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND

“Ales and Tails II” A CASINO NIGHT FUNDRAISER BENEFITTING TWRC WILDLIFE CENTER

On July 13, 2013, TWRC Wildlife Center will host Ales & Tails II, this year’s major fundraising event, at Saint Arnold Brewing Company in downtown Houston. We are excited to offer dinner, beverages, casino-style gaming, a live band, silent auction and prize drawings throughout the evening! TWRC Wildlife Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, serves as an emergency facility for wildlife brought to us by the public. We are funded solely by the generosity of individuals, corporate donations and grants, as we receive NO Federal or State Funding.

Throughout our 33-year history we have had over 130,000 injured, orphaned or ill wildlife pass through the hands of our caring volunteers. We provide veterinary care for injured animals and coordinated placement of wildlife with appropriately skilled and permitted rehabilitators, who care for wildlife until it can be safely released back into its native habitat. TWRC also provides a truly unique variety of educational outreach programs for the community we serve and two on-site rehabilitation programs to engage the public in helping care for wildlife during our busiest months. Please join us, Saturday, July 13th, for a fun night at Texas’ Oldest Craft Brewery and help TWRC Wildlife Center make a difference for wildlife in need! MILDRED’S UMBRELLA THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES ITS 2013-2014 SEASON! Foxfinder by Dawn King. US Amateur Premier - August 15-31, 2013. Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn award. William Bloor, a “foxfinder,” arrives at Sam and Judith Covey’s farm to investigate a suspected contamination. He is driven by his education and beliefs to unearth and destroy an animal that threatens man’s civilization and to remain free from its influence himself. As his investigations proceed, the events that follow change the course of all their lives - forever. Dawn King’s play won the 2011 Papatango New Writing Competition (in partnership with London’s Finborough Theatre). A darkly comic exploration of belief, desire and responsibility, set in a world both strange and familiar, from a striking new voice in British theatre. Carnival Round the Central Figure by Diana Amsterdam. Regional Premier - November 7-23, 2013. A wild ride through theatrical terrain that sears the senses and impacts the audience at a visceral place, which also manages to be hilariously funny and heartbreakingly real in the five core scenes of a young woman’s visit to the death bed of her friend. Her moment of acknowledgment and comfort comes hard in the face of denial, moralizing, insane positive

713-269-4089 We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281497-4904 or visit our website, www. Decibelles.org.

During the 2013-2014 school year, students from all across the world will have the opportunity to travel to Houston and surrounding communities to spend the entire school year in the United States, learning and working with American Families. In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year. The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States.

HOSTING A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT IS EASIER THAN YOU MAY THINK

There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student. The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture. There are a few basic requirements, of course. Anyone older than 25 and can provide food and shelter for a student fulfills the requirements of being a host family. There is a background check, reference check and an interview. Background checks have to be done on everyone over 18 living in the home. The host families have to be interested in it for the right reasons, the cultural exchange of learning from them and them learning from us. It’s the language, the cooking, the music, the food. The host family has to be genuinely interested. Once the host families and students are matched, Ayusa stays involved by monthly contacts with the families, students and quarterly contacts with the schools. Ayusa coordinators also handle the host family orientations and the student orientations. Group activities, such as community service and seeing things with the group of exchange students is also arrange throughout their academic year. With the current school year quickly coming to an end Ayusa’s local staff is busy looking for families for students for the 2013-2014 school year. Many families are needed and with the schools having deadlines and limits for foreign exchange students the earlier the better. It also gives the families and students time to get to know each other via skype, facebook, etc. while waiting for their year abroad to start. Please contact Heather Wells by email ayusakaty@gmail.com or by phone 281-770-3414.

DCON 2013: CYPRESS FALLS IS NEVER AFRAID TO SERVE The Cypress Falls Key Club recently attended the 2013 “Don’t Be Afraid to Serve” District Convention (DCON) in Dallas, Texas. Held at the Sheraton Hotel, DCON is a gathering of over 1,100 high school volunteers as well as 200 chaperones. “As soon as you arrive at the opulent Sheraton Hotel,” immediate past treasurer and current vice president Blake Jones said, “you are enveloped in a sense of unity and passion. Everyone there is just like you. Not in the sense that we all look or dress the same, but that everyone there wants to change the world and DCON is the place to get it done.”

The participants spent the four-day event contributing to fun service activities, attending character-building workshops, competing in exciting contests and electing their leaders for the upcoming year. “DCON was such a life-changing experience this year,” immediate past president and current Lieutenant Governor Gabi Bradshaw said, “I learned so much about how to become a leader in my community and how to inspire members to serve. I also developed many new friendships with Key Clubbers from around Texas and Oklahoma.” Out of over 470 clubs in the Texas-Oklahoma district, nine of which are from CFISD, Cypress Falls was celebrated in the Top 25 Clubs as the fourth best Key Club. In addition, the individual members won numerous awards. Maryam Arjomandi was awarded for her service with a $1,000 scholarship, which will go toward the cost of her books and fees at the University of Texas next year. Mohammed Syed won first place for the Club Video while Sachit Saksena won first place for the District Project. Tashrima Hossain also took home first place for the Club Newsletter and third place in the Oratory contest. During the Texas vs. Oklahoma Quiz Bowl, Jones and Hannah Norem were two of the five students to represent Texas. After an intense match, Jones, Norem, Martin High School’s Osman Moneer, Bellaire High School’s Jenny Li and Lamar High School’s Gregory Ross were able to snag the Quiz Bowl title back from Oklahoma.

The club won patches for participating in the Eliminate Project, an organization designed to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus, as well as the Governor’s B.R.O. Project, which concentrated on working with the Children’s Miracle Network. Moreover, Louis Kirkley won a patch for his Distinguished website (http://www.cyfallskey.me). “I am so proud to work with such an amazing group,” club sponsor Kathie Kiklas said, “They always go beyond what is asked of them. DCON is wonderful training to enhance leadership skills.” Several Cypress Falls students were elected to divisional and district-level leadership positions for the upcoming school year. Bradshaw was elected as the Division 3N Lieutenant governor and she will serve as the head of Key Clubs throughout Cy-Fair and Katy. Roshni Chandwani not only coordinated the four-day weekend as the immediate past Convention Liaison, but she was also endorsed to run for International Trustee during the summer International Convention at Washington D.C. Hossain was elected as the District Editor and she will serve the District by creating bimonthly magazines and overseeing clubs’ publications during the 2013 - 2014 year. “District Convention was exquisite,” current president Amy Jiang said, “Perhaps ecstatic would be the word to show the feelings of our Key Club as we won numerous awards. Committed was our attitude as we grew stronger and better as a group. Inspiration sparked within us at the forums as we learned more about this international, monumental organization. Leaders, is what we came back from District Convention as.”
