• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. THE LIBERTY BELL, THE BELL’S MESSAGE

The Liberty Bell’s inscription conveys a message of liberty, which goes beyond the words themselves. Since the bell was made, the words of the inscription have meant different things to different people. When William Penn created Pennsylvania’s government he allowed citizens to take part in making laws and gave them the right to choose the religion they wanted. The colonists were proud of the freedom that Penn gave them. In 1751, the Speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly ordered a new bell for the State House. He asked that a Bible verse to be placed on the bell - “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the inhabitants thereof” (Leviticus 25:10). As the official bell of the Pennsylvania State House (today called Independence Hall) it rang many times for public announcements, but we remember times like July 8, 1776 when it rang to announce the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. The old State House bell was first called the “Liberty Bell” by a group trying to outlaw slavery. These abolitionists remembered the words on the bell and, in the 1830’s, adopted it as a symbol of their cause. Beginning in the late 1800’s, the Liberty Bell traveled around the country to expositions and fairs to help heal the divisions of the Civil War. It reminded Americans of their earlier days when they fought and worked together for independence. In 1915, the bell made its last trip and came home to Philadelphia, where it now silently reminds us of the power of liberty. For more than 200 years people from around the world have felt the bell’s message. No one can see liberty, but people have used the Liberty Bell to represent this important idea.

While it’s always a good idea to stay hydrated, it’s especially important when the temps of Summer start rising. Whether you’re spending your vacation camping and hiking or just doing more outdoor daily activities like biking and walking, I’ve got some tips for how you can stay hydrated during the warm weather months. • Eat your water. Chowing down on water-filled foods like watermelon, is an easy and refreshing way to keep hydrated. • Swap soda for sparkling water. If you’re trying to kick a soda habit, sparkling water is a healthy, but still fizzy, alternative. • Hydrate before exercising. Be sure to drink water before exercising to maximize your workout. • Drink water on the plane. If you’re traveling this Summer, don’t forget to drink up the H2O on the plane. • Stay hydrated at work. SUMMER PET SAFETY TIPS

Hot weather can make us all uncomfortable and it poses special risks for your dog. Keep the following safety concerns in mind as the temperature rises and follow our tips to keep your dog cool. Heat Hazards • If your dog is outside on a hot day, make sure he has a shady spot to rest in. Doghouses are not good shelter during the summer as they can trap heat. You may want to fill a child’s wading pool with fresh water for your dog to cool off in. • Never leave your dog in a closed vehicle on a hot day. The temperature inside a car can rise to over 100 degrees in a matter of minutes. • Always provide plenty of cool, fresh water. • Avoid strenuous exercise on extremely hot days. Take walks in the early mornings or evenings, when the sun’s heat is less intense.

• Try to avoid prolonged exposure to hot asphalt or sand, which can burn your dog’s paws. • Dogs that are brachycephalic (short-faced), such as Bulldogs, Boxers, Japanese Chins and Pekingese, have an especially hard time in the heat because they do not pant as efficiently as longer-faced dogs. Keep your brachycephalic dog inside with air-conditioning. General Health • Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date, especially since dogs tend to stay outdoors longer and come into contact with other animals more during the summer months. • Keep dogs off of lawns that have been chemically treated or fertilized for 24 hours (or according to package instructions) and away from potentially toxic plants and flowers. • Keep your dog well brushed and clean. • Fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, which carry heartworm disease, are more prevalent in warmer months. Ask your veterinarian for an effective preventive to keep these parasites off your dog. Beach Tips • Make sure your dog has a shady spot to rest in and plenty of fresh water. • Dogs, especially those with short hair, white fur and pink skin, can sunburn. Limit your dog’s exposure during the day and apply sun block to his ears and nose 30 minutes before going outside. • Check with a lifeguard for daily water conditions. Dogs are easy targets for sea lice and jellyfish. • Running on the sand is strenuous exercise. A dog that is out of shape can easily pull a tendon or ligament, so keep a check on your dog’s activity. • Do not let your dog drink seawater; the salt will make him sick. • Salt and other minerals in ocean water can damage your dog’s coat, so rinse him off at the end of the day. • Not all beaches permit dogs; check local ordinances before heading out. Water Safety • Most dogs enjoy swimming, but some cannot swim and others may hate the water. Be conscious of your dog’s preferences and skills before trying to make them swim. • If you’re swimming for the first time with your dog, start in shallow water and coax him in by calling his name. Encourage him with toys or treats. Or, let him follow another experienced dog he is friendly with. • Never throw your dog into the water.

• If your dog begins to paddle with his front legs, lift his hind legs and help him float. He should quickly catch on and keep his back end up. • Don’t let your dog overdo it; swimming is very hard work and he may tire quickly. • If swimming at the ocean, be careful of strong tides. • If you have your own pool, make sure your dog knows where the stairs or ladder are located. Be sure that pool covers are firmly in place; dogs have been known to slip in under openings in the covers and drown. • Never leave your dog unattended in water. Travel • By Air: Many airlines will not ship animals during summer months due to dangers caused by hot weather. Some will only allow dogs to fly in the early morning or in the evening. Check with your airlines for specific rules. If you do ship a dog, put icepacks or an ice blanket in the dog’s crate. (Two-liter soft drink bottles filled with water and frozen work well.) Provide a container of fresh water, as well as a container of frozen water that will thaw over the course of the trip. • By Car: Keep your dog cool in the car by putting icepacks in his crate. Make sure the crate is well ventilated. Put a sunshade on your car windows. Bring along fresh water, a bowl and a tarp or tent so you can set up a shady spot when you stop. Keep a spray bottle filled with water to spritz on your dog to cool him down. • By RV: A dog’s safety should not depend on the air conditioning and generator systems in an RV or motor home. These devices can malfunction, with tragic results. If you leave your dog in an RV with the generator running, check it often or have a neighbor monitor it. Some manufacturers have devices that will notify you if the generator should malfunction. Never leave an RV or motor home completely shut up, even if the generator and AC are running. Crack a window or door or run the exhaust fan. Never, ever leave a dog unattended in a vehicle in the summer months. Heatstroke and death can occur within minutes in warm temperatures. Heatstroke Heatstroke can be the serious and often fatal result of a dog’s prolonged exposure to excessive heat. Below are the signs of heatstroke and the actions you should take if your dog is overcome. Early Stages: Heavy panting; rapid breathing; excessive drooling; bright red gums and tongue; or standing 4-square, posting or spreading out in an attempt to maintain balance. Advanced Stages: White or blue gums; lethargy, unwillingness to move; uncontrollable urination or defecation; labored, noisy breathing; and shock. If your dog begins to exhibit signs of heatstroke, you should immediately try

“Mom, can I watch a movie?” This is how I woke up this morning. A cute little four-year-old face, inches away from mine, asking to be entertained by major Hollywood corporations. I don’t have a problem with TV or movies—we watch them both. But we all know they’re FAR too often the default choice of leisure time for children. They can easily suck away imagination, energy, and the innocence of our kids, and a few hours of distraction just isn’t worth that, in my opinion. But during these dog days of summer, it’s also hard to shoo your kids outside, at least if you live in a climate like ours, where the norm is 100+ degrees fahrenheit daily. Unfortunately, it’s just not safe to let kids sweat in this brutal heat for hours at a time. So what’s a parent to do? Not much. But there’s plenty

that children can do indoors on their own without touching a remote. Here are a few ideas. 1. Read a book. This is a go-to favorite in our family. Our library is right in our living room, available for access any time of day. Our kids know they can pull a book off the shelves at any time and enjoy, even though they can’t read on their own yet. And don’t forget about your public library. 2. Write a book. Even if your kids aren’t writing fluently yet, they can still compose literature on their own. Create a collection of blank books, and let your kids illustrate a story. Later, you can write the words for them as they dictate them to you, or they can sound out the words phonetically and write the story on their own. These books will make great keepsakes later. 3. Act out a book. Does your child have a perennial favorite book? Have her act it out — the plot may take a unique turn, all her own. While I was making breakfast, my daughter said, “Mom, right now I’m going on a walk at half past nine.” 4. Listen to a book. Audible Kids has a great selection of quality literature for children. Download a few to your mp3 player, and either give your child some headphones, or play the book over speakers while they play quietly. 5. Make an indoor clubhouse. Build a blanket fort. Get your child started, and see how else they architect a little place of their own. 6. Perform a puppet show or play. Hopefully you have a collection of hand-me-down clothes and thrift store finds in a dress-up box for your kids. They can use these to create costumes for a play, with you as the audience. Or they can let their stuffed animals star as puppets, and hide behind the couch for a dramatic reenactment starring their pretend friends. You can also make a simple puppet show theater with a spring-loaded curtain rod and a piece of fabric in a doorway. 7. Have an indoor picnic or tea party. Lay out an outdoor tablecloth on the floor, and enjoy lunch together down there. Kids think it’s a big treat to do the everyday in a special place, and the floor is one of those places. Or brew up some

warm tea (my daughter’s favorite is blackberry), and have a little tea time in cups with saucers, alongside crackers or sweet bread for an afternoon treat. This is best done during baby’s naptime. 8. Make homemade play-doh. Play-doh made from scratch is incredibly easy, and you can make an endless array of colors with basic food dye. Plus, it doesn’t have that awful commercial-brand smell. Spread the outdoor tablecloth on the floor, and give them dull knives, a rolling pin, and some cookie cutters 9. Help with chores. Many younger kids think it’s a blast to help Mom with the chores — but even if they don’t think it’s fun, it’s good for them to do chores anyway. It teaches kids that running the house is a family effort, and that life involves work (and things we don’t always enjoy doing). 10. Save up those TP rolls and wad up your socks. Arrange TP rolls like bowling pins on one end of the hall. Stack up a few balled-up socks on the other. Bowl or throw at the “pins,” and you’ve got an indoor bowling alley. There’s tons of other crafts you can do with toilet paper rolls, too. 11. Get your groove on. Even the parent can benefit from this little break in the day. Crank up the peppy music and get dancing. Even 10 minutes of jiving will release some wiggles, and it’s a stress relief for you, too. 12. Craft, craft, craft. In our family, we draw or create near daily. Keep a well-organized art cabinet handy, and your children can grab supplies whenever their muse strikes. If they want to paint, simply use that handy outdoor tablecloth again, and spread it on the kitchen floor. This is another baby’s-taking-a-nap activity. 13. Write a letter to a friend. Old-fashioned letter writing is a dying art, what with e-mail being today’s communication method of choice. Help your child write a letter to Grandma, her cousins, or a friend, and make someone’s day when they open their mailbox a few days later. 14. Have a simple playdate. Invite your child’s good friend over — this often makes for an even easier day, because your kiddo has a playmate instead of asking you to play all the time. It depends on the age and the particular friend, of course, but I’ve found that when my daughter has a friend over, I don’t see her for hours. They’re engulfed in their own little world in the playroom, content with each other’s company.

15. Play shop. Create different shop kits from thrift store and sale finds. The next time you’re at a craft store, pick up some fake flowers on clearance. Make some homemade plant labels, save some empty seed packets, and hang on to those temporary pots from store-bought plants — all these supplies will make great tools for a flower shop at home. A notepad, pencil, apron, tray, and play food are all you need to play restaurant at the dining room table. 16. Rearrange the bedroom. If your child is old enough to safely move small furniture around, let him explore his creative side and rearrange his bedroom. Depending on the result, it could be an afternoon set up, or it could be a new permanent look. 17. Supply some cardboard boxes. If you haven’t recently moved or purchased a new appliance, go to your local grocery store and see if they have any cardboard boxes you could take off their hands. Bring a few home, and let your child’s imagination take over. They might build a castle, take off on a spaceship, or go sailing to a new world. 18. Go on a treasure hunt. Think of some unusual spots around your house, or plant some treasures in rooms and on shelves (in an age-appropriate location, of course). Then make a list of objects, and have your child go on a treasure hunt. If they can’t yet read, draw a sketch of the hidden item. 19. Have them help with batch cooking. Do you have a batch cooking day planned? If they’re old enough to stir, sift, and pour, let them help you with the basics — pasta and pizza sauces, muffins, and breads are all kid-friendly. America celebrates July 4th as Independence Day because it was on July 4, 1776, that members of the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, adopted the final draft of the Declaration of Independence. Following its adoption, the Declaration was read to the public in various American cities. Whenever they heard it, patriots erupted in cheers and celebrations. In 1777, Philadelphians remembered the 4th of July. Bells were rung, guns fired, candles lighted and firecrackers went off. However, while the War of Independence dragged on, July 4th celebrations were modest at best. When the war ended in 1783, July 4th became a holiday in some places. In Boston, it replaced the date of the Boston Massacre, March 5th, as the major patriotic holiday. Speeches, military events, parades and fireworks marked the day. In 1941, Congress declared July 4th a federal holiday.

These savory beef burgers are seasoned with ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, sprinkled with sliced cheese and served over crusty Italian bread for a hearty meal that’ll let you get a handle on dinner. Ingredients 1 pound lean ground beef 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon pepper 1/4 cup ketchup 1/4 cup chopped onion 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 3/4 cup crushed corn flakes cereal 1/2 cup evaporated milk 1 (1 pound) loaf Italian bread, cut in half lengthwise 6 American cheese slices Cooking Instructions Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt, pepper, ketchup, onion, Worcestershire sauce, cornflakes and evaporated milk until evenly blended. Divide the mixture in half and spread onto the cut side of each half of the loaf of bread. Place them crust side down onto a baking sheet. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until meat is no longer pink. During the last 5 minutes of baking, place the slices of cheese over the top to melt. Depending on how many you are cooking for, you can cut into smaller pieces or serve in larger sections.

Boil the potatoes until they are done but not overcooked. Boil the eggs over medium high heat until hard boiled. Allow the potatoes and eggs to cool. Run cold water over them in a strainer to speed up the process. Peel the potatoes and then slice into chunks. Peel and slice the egg into 1/2 inch pieces. Chop the onion into very small pieces. Stir all ingredients gently except for the paprika. After all ingredients are well mixed, pour into a bowl. Add the parika across the top. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

The House and Senate successfully negotiated a two-year budget that will restore approximately $4 billion of the $5.4 billion in cuts to public education that were made by the 82nd Legislature in 2011. While the budget still needs to be approved by the full House and Senate and signed by the governor, this key negotiation between five members from each side is expected to be the basis for the new funding system through 2015. This is a huge step in the right direction for Texas public schools and Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and I commend the members of the 83rd Legislature - specifically those within the CFISD delegation who worked diligently to make this education budget replenishment happen. I would especially like to thank Sens. Dan Patrick, John Whitmire, Joan Huffman and Glenn Hegar and Reps. Patricia Harless, Allen Fletcher, Bill Callegari, Gary Elkins, Dwayne Bohac, Sylvester Turner and Jessica Farrar for using the power of their votes to keep our students’ best interests in mind. We have been fortunate in CFISD to maintain academic excellence amid financial constraints, but the additional infusion of money will be paramount as we seek to provide students with the best possible educational experience. Thank you for any feedback you gave to our local legislators that stressed the need for a properly funded education system in Texas. Students from Cy-Fair and Langham Creek high schools collected more than 180 pairs of shoes from Copeland Elementary School to push CFISD’s collection totals to nearly 1,100 pairs of sneakers for Haitian schoolchildren through the New Missions program GiveSneakers. com. Copeland’s drive ran from May 1st - 15th and combined with donations from Lowery Elementary School, Salyards Middle School and Langham Creek and Cy-Fair high schools, students shattered their initial goal of 900 pairs of sneakers. “When we first made our goal, we thought we might be overshooting it,” said Langham Creek sophomore Marin Anderson, who helped round up sneakers along with Langham Creek sophomore Andrew Hadad and Cy-Fair junior Blake Hayes. “I think the students here are very excited because they haven’t had a lot of opportunities like this yet. Their response has been phenomenal.” Copeland principal Michelle Rice, who coincided the shoe drive as part of the school’s monthly community outreach program, Copeland Cares, said she was not surprised by the outpouring of support. “The Copeland community is a very giving and generous community,” Rice said. “I am impressed with all the leadership we are developing within our students in Cy-Fair. We’re helping them look to the outside and this is a generation of children who want to be counted on by others.” Hayes helped launch the shoe drive last month with the support of his mother, Langham Creek director of instruction Rebecca Hayes. The Hayes family had visited Haiti over spring break and seen firsthand the impact that quality footwear can have on the academic success of children in the impoverished country. “I’m very impressed with these students at Copeland. I don’t think they even understand the huge impact they’ve already made for children in Haiti,” Hayes said. “These 180-odd pairs of shoes can go so far down there; they’re a ticket for the children to be allowed to attend school. I can’t wait to go back and see the impact that this shoe drive has made for them.”

The league will have a tournament at the conclusion of the season. On July 13, 2013, TWRC Wildlife Center will host Ales & Tails II, this year’s major fundraising event, at Saint Arnold Brewing Company in downtown Houston. We are excited to offer dinner, beverages, casino-style gaming, a live band, silent auction and prize drawings throughout the evening! TWRC Wildlife Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, serves as an emergency facility for wildlife brought to us by the public. We are funded solely by the generosity of individuals, corporate donations and grants, as we receive NO Federal or State Funding. Throughout our 33-year history we have had over 130,000 injured, orphaned or ill wildlife pass through the hands of our caring volunteers. We provide veterinary care for injured animals and coordinated placement of wildlife with appropriately skilled and permitted rehabilitators, who care for wildlife until it can be safely released back into its native habitat. TWRC also provides a truly unique variety of educational outreach programs for the community we serve and two on-site rehabilitation programs to engage the public in helping care for wildlife during our busiest months. The Houston Metro Go Texan Committee Katy Subcommittee of the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM will host a Casino Night at 7:00 PM, July 27, 2013 at the Mason Creek Community Center. Gaming tables will include blackjack, craps, roulette and Texas Holdem tables. Music will be quietly playing throughout the evening. A pasta dinner will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. The silent auction will begin at 7 PM and closing at 10:30 PM. Door prized will be given out shortly after all chips have been counted and tickets distributed to players. Wine, beer and setups will be available for purchase at the facility. Tickets are available for $50 each and all proceeds benefit the 2014 Show. Ticket price includes $2,500 in chips for gaming tables, pasta dinner and door prize entry. Additional chips, reserved seating for Texas Hold-em tables and reserved seating at dinner tables may be purchases at an additional cost. In 2012, $256,000 in scholarships was awarded to Katy ISD high school students. HOSTING A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT IS EASIER THAN YOU MAY THINK

During the 2013-2014 school year, students from all across the world will have the opportunity to travel to Houston and surrounding communities to spend the entire school year in the United States, learning and working with American Families. In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year.

The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States. There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student. The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture. There are a few basic requirements, of course. Anyone older than 25 and can provide food and shelter for a student fulfills the requirements of being a host family. There is a background check, reference check and an interview. Background checks have to be done on everyone over 18 living in the home. The host families have to be interested in it for the right reasons, the cultural exchange of learning from them and them learning from us. It’s the language, the cooking, the music, the food. The host family has to be genuinely interested. Once the host families and students are matched, Ayusa stays involved by monthly contacts with the families, students and quarterly contacts with the schools. Ayusa coordinators also handle the host family orientations and the student orientations. Group activities, such as community service and seeing things with the group of exchange students is also arrange throughout their academic year. With the current school year quickly coming to an end Ayusa’s local staff is busy looking for families for students for the 2013-2014 school year. Many families are needed and with the schools having deadlines and limits for foreign exchange students the earlier the better. It also gives the families and students time to get to know each other via skype, facebook, etc. while waiting for their year abroad to start. Copper Corners would like to thank all our troop leaders, service team and especially our steering committee for all their hard work in the past year. We are looking forward to all the fun things we’re going to be doing next year! Girl Scout camp is on the horizon for many of our Copper Corners Girl Scouts. San Jacinto Council offers a variety of day, twilight and resident camps for Girl Scouts of all ages and interests. Camp is a great place to make new friends and learn new skills. Whether you are going through the “people washer” at day camp, making ‘smores at twilight camp or canoeing across the lake, you will have a great time with fellow Girl Scouts. The council website with information on all these camps is www.gssjc.org. Brownie troop 16451 finished up the year with a pool party and a special “Brownie Vest “cake. Daisy troop 16109 had a great time at Build a Bear. Some of the bears they brought back wore what looked like Daisy Girl Scout uniforms. Junior troop 16257 delivered their cookie share to Ronald McDonald house, where they made friends with a young resident who is waiting for a double lung transplant. This troop also wound up their Scouting year with a trip to a dude ranch in Bandera, TX. “Carousel” events at Council camps during the year are an opportunity to experience a variety of activities on a “themed” day or weekend. Troop 16149 attended the Princess Academy carousel event at Camp Robin wood and went canoeing. Brownie troop 16398 bridged and “flew up” to Junior Girl Scouts. They made commemorative plates at Color Me Mine and used their painted finger prints to make different animals. Troop 16164 attended the Skeeters Girl Scout Sleepover baseball game at Constellation Field. The girls participated in special activates before the game. After the game they pitched their tents on the field for a movie and a sleepover. It was quite a night out! As you can see, Girl Scouts are active and they have fun! If you have ever thought of being a Girl Scout leader, summer is a great time to get started. Lots of training is available, but you only need a little (and a background check) to get started. We can’t have Girl Scout troops without leaders and our leaders come in all ages (over 18), kinds and interests. Some of us don’t even have children! If you have a skill and or an interest and or a desire to help, we’d

Boy Scout’s music concert fundraiser earns nearly $1,000 for CAM When Hunter Britsch, a sixteen-year-old sophomore at Cy-Ranch High School and Fairfield resident, began planning his Boy Scout Eagle Project fundraiser, he wisely decided to tap into his own musical talent as a singer-songwriter. The result was an extraordinary music concert held on May 18th in Britsch’s own back yard that was attended by over 100 people. Performed by a unique ensemble of professional and amateur musicians, the concert raised almost $1,000 for Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM). Donations of more than 50 pounds of non-perishable food items and toiletries were also collected at the concert and given to CAM. Britsch is a member of Explorer Post 1475 sponsored by the Fairfield Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Performing at the concert were two professional musicians, Abbey Hickman and Rod Branch and one former professional musician, Lisa Hickman, who played along with five accomplished musicians from Cy-Ranch High School, one Salyards Middle School vocalist and Britsch. A professional photographer, Lloyd Toby Dawson, volunteered to take pictures at the event. Refreshments for the audience were prepared by eight members of Explorer Post 1475. Michael Lucas emceed the concert. The concert, however, was only the beginning. It was followed on Saturday, May 25th, by a service project to resuscitate the landscaping at CAM’s pantry. Britsch walked the grounds, took pictures and made plans. He was able to recruit 19 volunteers to clean up and beautify the grounds and the materials were purchased with funds raised by the concert. BOY SCOUT TROOP 61

Young men between the ages of 11-18 are encouraged to visit Boy Scout Troop 61 at 7:00 PM Wednesday nights at Peace Community Church, 5151 Addicks Satsuma Road, Houston, Texas, 77084. They will get a hands-on experience of what Scouting has to offer and have the opportunity to visit with the Scouts and their adult leaders to learn more about the things the troop has done during meetings and activities. Scouting activities include camping, fishing, archery, rifle/ shotgun shooting, hiking, first aid, wilderness survival, community service, citizenship, swimming, leadership, white-water rafting and much more. Troop 61 camps each month and has a group that goes to High Adventure Camp and to Merit Badge Camps each summer. The Cy-Fair Community Band was initiated about three years ago, with approximately five or six musicians coming together to explore their common interest in music and their enjoyment of playing together. They have evolved into an accomplished group of band members and have recently changed their name to Sounds of Cypress. DeeDee Flores is director of group. By day she is a band director at Plummer Middle School. Her ability has led the group to develop polished performances, which they are anxious to share.
