Please remember your pets must be on a leash at all times and any waste must be picked up. Animals are not allowed at the community park/pool area. Take care of your pets in the heat and make sure they have plenty of fresh water and have a place in the shade if left outdoors. Be careful of the blacktop and concrete when walking your dogs, as it can burn the pads on their feet.
TRASH REMINDER Trash receptacles and recycle bins must be stored in garage or behind house out of public view on non-trash days. This is unsightly and is not the image we want to present in our community. Trash pickup days are Tuesday and Friday. Friday is heavy trash day. Trash should not be placed at curb before 6:00 PM the night before trash is picked up. Please respect the deed restrictions.
SPEEDING If you observe speeding cars in your area, you can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 281-341-4665 to request patrols so that speeding is discouraged. The Sheriff’s Department has been given authority to enforce traffic laws on our private streets.

In an effort to get information out to our residents in a timely manner, we are asking homeowners to voluntarily submit their email addresses to be included on a mailing list for Falcon Point use only. Sending email will allow us to keep homeowners informed of upcoming events (garage sale, National Night Out, etc.), scheduled maintenance (gate repair, etc.) and other issues of concern to our neighborhood. The reservation must be made by a resident of Falcon Point East HOA (The Arbor, The Grove, The Landing and The Meadows), who is responsible for the activities on the field during the reserved time. The soccer fields at the neighborhood center can be reserved by contacting Rachel Schmutz of Community Solutions at 713-429-5440 or if you have any questions.
Please note that the association pays electrical charges for a streetlight whether the bulb is functioning or not. To report street light outages you can contact CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222 or www.centerpointenergy.com. Be sure to note the pole number and the street address.
NEED ADDITIONAL GATE TRANSMITTERS AND/OR GATE CARDS? Gate transmitters and gate cards are available for purchase. Transmitters are $40 each and cards are $10 each at this time. If you wish to buy gate access equipment, you can contact the Gate Committee at FPE.gates@gmail.com. It is strongly recommended that everyone purchase a wallet card to be able to gain access to the neighborhood, in case your transmitter battery fails or you need to gain access to the community, but you are not in your own car.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION The Falcon Point East subdivision consists of the 613 lots located in the Arbor, the Grove, the Landing and the Meadows. Owners of these lots are members of the Falcon Point East Homeowners Association, Inc. (the Association). The Association is managed by Community Manager. Policy is set by a five member Board of Directors (the “Board”). The Board is elected by the members of the Association at the Annual Meeting of Members held in October or November of each year. In each newsletter, there is a list entitled, “Important Numbers for Falcon Point East.” You can cut it out and put it on your refrigerator for easy reference.

You can review the financial statements, including the monthly check register, and approved minutes of Falcon Point East HOA. You can also download governing documents. An application for home improvements is available on the website. The website contains links to Katy ISD, as well as links to local traffic and weather reports. 281-617-2231 BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY: MAKE IT A PRIORITY As parents prepare for the start of a new school year, teaching children how to be safer needs to be at the top of their list of things to do. An analysis by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children of attempted abductions during the past five years found that children are at most risk when going to and from school or school related activities. Parents and other adults can help keep children safe by following these ten tips: • Teach your children to always TAKE A FRIEND with them when walking or biking and stay with a group while standing at the bus stop. Make sure they know which bus to ride. • Walk the route to and from school with your children pointing out landmarks and safe places to go if they’re being followed or need help. Teach your children they should NEVER TAKE SHORTCUTS and always stay in well-lit areas. • It is not safe for young children to walk to and from school, even in a group. Parents should always provide supervision for young children to help ensure their safe arrival to and from school. If

your children wait for a bus, wait with them or make arrangements for supervision at the bus stop. • Teach your children that if anyone bothers them, makes them feel scared or uncomfortable to trust their feelings and immediately get away from that person. Teach them it is ok not to be polite and IT IS OK TO SAY NO.
• Teach your children to NEVER ACCEPT MONEY OR GIFTS from anyone unless you have told them it is ok to accept in each instance. • Make sure the school has current and accurate emergency contact information on file for your children and confirm names of those authorized.
• Teach your children if anyone tries to take them somewhere they should RESIST by kicking and screaming, try to run away and DRAW ATTENTION by kicking and screaming “This person is trying to take me away” or “This person is not my father/mother.”
• Always know where your children will be. Teach your children to always CHECK FIRST before changing their plans before or after school. Teach your children to never leave school with anyone unless they CHECK FIRST with you or another trusted adult, even if someone tells them it is an emergency.
• Teach your children NOT TO ACCEPT A RIDE from anyone unless you have said it is ok in that instance. If anyone follows them in a vehicle they should turn around, go in the other direction and run to a trusted adult who may help them.

SALES TAX HOLIDAY AUGUST 9 - 11, 2013 The recent passage of Senate Bill 485 (83rd Regular Legislative Session, 2013) changes the dates of the this year’s annual Sales Tax Holiday to August 9th - 11th, a week earlier than previously scheduled. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.
Subject to the criteria explained at www.window.state.tx.us/ taxinfo/taxpubs/taxholiday/d/, all sales of qualifying items made during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including items sold online or by telephone or mail. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday. The dates for the sales tax holiday are set by the Legislature.

MUSIC SINGING GROUP “ONE-A-CHORD” One A-Chord is an interdenominational men’s and women’s singing group with a music ministry to the elderly in Katy and West Houston. HOSTING A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT IS EASIER THAN YOU MAY THINK During the 2012-2013 school year, students from all across the world will have the opportunity to travel to Houston and surrounding communities to spend the entire school year in the United States, learning and working with American Families. In order for the students to come to the U.S. they must have proper host families lined up. Now is a crucial time of year for the Ayusa program as local staff coordinators to find local host families for the upcoming school year.
The Ayusa program is celebrating its 30th year this year and is responsible for more than 60,000 students from 75 different countries spending the school year in the United States. There are not many strict requirements that need to be met to host a student. The most important thing is that those who host students are doing so for the right reason; providing a loving experience and an exposure to American culture. There are a few basic requirements, of course. Anyone older than 25 and can provide food and shelter for a student fulfills the requirements of being a host family. There is a background check, reference check and an interview. Background checks have to be done on everyone over 18 living in the home. The host families have to be interested in it for the right reasons, the cultural exchange of learning from them and them learning from us. It’s the language, the cooking, the music, the food. The host family has to be genuinely interested.

Once the host families and students are matched, Ayusa stays involved by monthly contacts with the families, students and quarterly contacts with the schools. Ayusa coordinators also handle the host family orientations and the student orientations. Group activities, such as community service and seeing things with the group of exchange students is also arrange throughout their academic year.

KATY YOUTH BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES FALL AND WINTER LEAGUE REGISTRATION Katy Youth Basketball is launching the 28th season of Youth Basketball for boys and girls. Two leagues are being formed this year, a Fall 3-on-3 league and the traditional Winter League. Boys and girls in 1st through 8th grade zoned to the Katy Independent School District are invited to participate. Players are placed on teams by grade. Registration for the fourth season Fall 3-on-3 League is currently underway online at www.kybb.org. KYB’s Winter League registration is Saturdays, September 14th and September 21st, from 9 AM to 3 PM at McMeans Jr. High. The Winter League has walk-up registration only. Practices will begin in November and games are played January and February, 2014. Katy Youth Basketball depends on volunteers for its success. KATY REBELS-D’ADDIECO TEAM The 9th/10th Grade Katy Rebels-D’Addieco team took first place at the June 8-9, 2013 Tournament for Hope in Austin, TX. This is now an incredible 5 first place finishes so far this year. In this tournament, the Rebels had key players missing and more key players battling through significant injury and they still managed to win the tournament. They showed some admirable grit and character to rise up as a team and pull together for the wins. The team shooting efficiency was well above their normal average all weekend, including a team record in both 2 pt. and 3 pt. percentage in the first game. The improved shooting, along with the typical disciplined defense, a steadily improving low post offense and domination on the glass were the main differences in the games. Congratulations to Allison, LaShanda, Kim, Sydney, Natalia, Kayla, Anna, Delaney, Myangiel and Emily on your fifth championship!

Singer’s and Instrumentalists and Dancers are invited to join the “Grace Notes,” a performing group which shares music with the community in retirement homes, alzheimer’s and nursing facilities, country clubs and several churches. We sing a combination of Secular, Broadway, Patriotic, Sacred and Gospel Music. We also sing once a month for the congregation of St. Peter’s United Methodist church - during the traditional morning services. We rehearse and perform during the school calendar year on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 AM at St. Peter’s UMC in room E-106. Tuesday mornings are our “outing” days for performances in the community.

FORT BEND COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS EARTH-KIND® KIDS’ KAMP The Fort Bend County Master Gardeners are hosting the fifth annual EarthKind® Kids’ Kamp August 5 through 9, 2013 for youth entering 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. FBMG volunteers have helped to teach nearly 100 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students about gardening basics, where food comes from and the wildlife often encountered in the garden. Each year a new curriculum is selected from the nationally acclaimed Junior Master Gardener program supported by 28 universities, including Texas A&M University, which serves as JMG headquarters. This year’s curriculum is Wildlife Gardener and includes lessons taught by Master Gardeners and other subject matter experts about birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles, vermicomposting and much more. “Twenty to thirty years ago, nearly all kids were exposed to nature on a day to day basis. Times have changed and it gets harder and harder for youth to have the same experiences. This camp gives youth the opportunity to learn about and experience the best that nature brings and get their hands dirty along the way” said Boone Holladay, Fort Bend County Extension Agent Horticulture, who advises the Master Gardener volunteers. Kids’ Kamp will be held at the Fort Bend County Extension office at 1402 Band Road in Rosenberg from 9 AM until 3 PM each day. Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computergenerated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for citizens of their community. THIRTY-TWO KATY-AREA BOYS ATTEND AMERICAN LEGION’S BOYS STATE IN AUSTIN Jonathan D. Rozier Post 164 of The American Legion in Katy, selected 32 Katy-area boys to attend Boys State in Austin, June 9-14, 2013. Boys State, a program of The American Legion since 1935, provides training for city, county and state governments with students elected to various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies and musical and recreational programs. The selection effort was led by Post 164 members Henry Thomas, Wally Klekar, Todd Spiller and Monte Ikner. They coordinated with high school counselors and conducted interviews with the students. Boys are selected in the spring semester of their junior years. The 2013 effort sent 17 Katy-area boys to Austin. This year’s attendees are:

“In order for Katy ISD to be ready for storms, we need our community to be informed and prepared,” said John Bremer, Katy ISD emergency management coordinator. “Prepared families help by allowing us time to close schools and secure the buildings well ahead of any impending threats. If families are prepared, then we can make better decisions about school operations.” The Texas Department of State Health Services has a number of tools for families to use, including a brochure on Hurricane Preparedness, an emergency supply checklist and a video on surviving disasters. The Ready Houston regional preparedness page also has helpful information on how to prepare for disasters, including hurricanes at: www.readyhoustontx.gov. “Make a plan, put together a survival kit and stay informed are three steps Katy ISD uses to prepare for hurricane season; these are the same steps students, parents and school personnel can use to be ready,” added Bremer. District preparations include annually reviewing and updating the tropical weather annex of the emergency operations plan; maintaining flood control features and inspecting roofs of the schools and making sure that emergency resources are available and ready should a storm threaten the Texas Gulf Coast. In order to respond ahead of any storm, Katy ISD stays informed by working closely with the National Weather Service and by listening to regional partners at the City of Katy, Harris County and Fort Bend County.
