Our yearly homeowner’s meeting is tentatively scheduled for mid November. This important event is the one time of the year that all homeowners are invited to a local venue to meet with the Board and Community Solutions Unlimited Homeowner’s Association members to vote on Board members and make important decisions regarding the community you live in. It is vitally important that we have a large turn out at this meeting to have a quorum to vote and to also have a good representation of our residents to ensure that Falcon Point East continues to be Football “YOUR” neighborhood. Save the time date, stay tuned for more details and above all plan to attend! in Texas!

PLEASE DO NOT POST LOST PETS ON OUR FRESHLY PAINTED GATES OR MAILBOXES. YOU ARE WELCOME TO POST SIGNS ON STAKES BUT PICK THEM UP AND DISPOSE AFTER YOUR PET IS FOUND.

STAY CONNECTED Stay connected and be informed! The new way to keep in touch with your neighbors is by joining our new online private network. You can post, chat and stay informed by logging on the https://falconpointeast.nextdoor.com/join.

PETS Please remember your pets must be on a leash at all times and any waste must be picked up. Animals are not allowed at the community park/pool area. Take care of your pets in the heat and make sure they have plenty of fresh water and have a place in the shade if left outdoors. Be careful of the blacktop and concrete when walking your dogs, as it can burn the pads on their feet.

TRASH REMINDER Trash receptacles and recycle bins must be stored in garage or behind house out of public view on non-trash days. This is unsightly and is not the image we want to present in our community. Trash pickup days are Tuesday and Friday. Friday is heavy trash day. Trash should not be placed at curb before 6:00 PM the night before trash is picked up. Please respect the deed restrictions.

SPEEDING If you observe speeding cars in your area, you can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 281-341-4665 to request patrols so that speeding is discouraged. The Sheriff’s Department has been given authority to enforce traffic laws on our private streets.

In an effort to get information out to our residents in a timely manner, we are asking homeowners to voluntarily submit their email addresses to be included on a mailing list for Falcon Point use only. Sending email will allow us to keep homeowners informed of upcoming events (garage sale, National Night Out, etc.), scheduled maintenance (gate repair, etc.) and other issues of concern to our neighborhood. Your email information will be kept confidential. We will not sell or give it away to anyone. If you would like to participate, send your name, physical address and email address to Meridith Wehrle at wehrleml@ hotmail.com.

NEED ADDITIONAL GATE TRANSMITTERS AND/OR GATE CARDS? Gate transmitters and gate cards are available for purchase. Transmitters are $40 each and cards are $10 each at this time. If you wish to buy gate access equipment, you can contact the Gate Committee at FPE.gates@gmail.com. It is strongly recommended that everyone purchase a wallet card to be able to gain access to the neighborhood, in case your transmitter battery fails or you need to gain access to the community, but you are not in your own car.

As a child, Brittanee couldn’t talk and was taught sign language. Today, she not only has great mastery of the English language, she has spent a lot of time helping by reading to younger children. She still enjoys reading to others, but as with most teenagers today, her favorite pastime is texting. As a student at Morton Ranch HS, she was a “Best Buddy” to an autistic girl. The scholarship funds presented by the Elks each year emphasize their motto: Elks Care - Elks Share. Nationally, the Elks are second only to the Federal Government in providing students with scholarship and grant funds. For anyone interested in pursuing any of the Texas Elks Scholarships for 2014, go to texaselks.org after September 15th when all current information should be posted. KATY GIRL SCOUTS FROM TROOP 17259 EARN SILVER AWARD

In May, Girl Scouts Anusri Shah, Rebecca Clark and Veronica Miko earned the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn, the Silver award. The trio of 7th graders accrued more than 60 hours supporting Katy’s Krause Center with various projects and events. They organized and led an Art Workshop for younger Girl Scouts, culminating in a large canvas to be displayed at the Krause Center. Using their creative energies, the Cadettes designed inspirational posters and assembled fleece pillows for the residents there. They also hosted a flip-flop decorating workshop at the Krause Center with more than 40 residents. Each of these girls is continuing on with Girl Scouting and plans to earn the highest honor, the Gold Award.

EF FOUNDATION FOR FOREIGN STUDY HIGH SCHOOL EXCHANGE STUDENTS Tammala Baszile, international exchange coordinator for nonprofit EF Foundation for Foreign Study, the leader in high school exchange, is currently accepting applications for host families for the 2013-14 school year. Host families open their homes to a 15-18 year old from one of 25 countries around the world. Students come for one or two semesters and attend the local high school. Through the exchange experience, both student and family get the chance to learn about a new culture and promote global understanding, right here in this community.

16

According to Ms. Baszile, EF Foundation host families represent the diversity of American culture - with varied economic, religious and social backgrounds. Among those who embrace the exchange experience are parents looking to give their children a glimpse of the world, without having to travel the globe. In addition, there are many successful host families who have no children or adult children who no longer live at home, who are looking for new ways to connect to their communities, while gaining fresh perspectives on the world. Host family applicants undergo a screening process to ensure that they are well suited for an exchange experience. To host, one adult in the household must be at least 25 years old. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, EF Foundation for Foreign Study is the leader in high school exchange. Committed to promoting international understanding and global awareness for over 30 years, EF Foundation brings more students to the United States each year than any other high school exchange program. Since 1979, the organization hasmatched over 100,000 enthusiastic students from around the world with caring host families across the United States. EF Foundation is designated by the United States Department of State as an Exchange Program Sponsor.

BECOME A TUTOR-UNDERSTAND OUR STUDENT’S LIFELINES

Become an essential part of a student’s life by signing up to be a tutor for the Literacy Council! The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County holds tutor training every other month. After 12 hours of training, outstanding volunteers are equipped to teach Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adults. The trainings prepare tutors to organize and compile lesson plans, learn about various tutoring techniques, understand the purpose of the Literacy Council and much more. Tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor do they need formal teaching experience. We offer many locations for tutoring throughout the area, including locations in Katy. Tutoring sessions are offered during the day and at night. If you are interested in impacting someone’s life by being their tutor, please contact the Literacy Council at 281-240-8181 or visit the website at www.ftbendliteracy.org.
