UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

The HOA is hosting several community events during the upcoming months whereby neighbors can come out get to know each other and have fun. Look for email alerts, the HOA website and banners for additional information as the scheduled dates approach. To ensure each event is successful, volunteers are needed. Listed below are the scheduled events: • NATIONAL NIGHT OUT - Tuesday, October 1, 2013, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at Pocket Park (Linden Tree/Westgreen) • POOLSIDE CHAT WITH THE HOA BOARD - Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 7:00 PM at Raintree Village Pool: As discussed during the annual meeting, the HOA Board will hold a meeting at the community pool. The purpose of this meeting is allow residents an opportunity to address the Board regarding community issues as well as updated on community affairs. Please mark your calendar for: • RAINTREE VILLAGE’S TRICK OR TROT FUN RUN (5K) Saturday, October 26, 2013, 8:00 AM • REINDEER FESTIVAL - Saturday, December 7, 2013, Noon 4:00 PM at Pocket Park (Linden Tree/Westgreen) Additionally, you are reminded of our standing committees, which need ongoing volunteers. The committees are as follows: • Pool Committee (organizes Official Pool Opening Party & monitors activities during pool season)

TIPS TO REDUCE YOUR RISK OF BURGLARY

It cannot be stated enough of the importance of minimizing our exposure to crime. The list below simply reminds us of things we should be mindful each day. 1. Make sure to close garage doors when at home and away. 2. Don’t keep garage door openers in the car, take them in the house with you; a garage door opener makes it easier for someone to enter your garage or house to remove personal property. 3. Keep car doors locked and take valuables either in your home or ensure the items are not in plain sight. 4. Keep all shrubs and plants at a level low enough that officers passing by or other residents can see if someone is lurking in those bushes! Shrubs should also be trimmed high enough to show “feet” of someone hiding in them. 5. Have keys in hand before leaving the store, house or office avoiding standing by the car searching for them. 6. Don’t leave ladders on the side of the house or in the back

Make sure you close blinds when you are inside at night with the lights on, potential burglars can see right inside and know who is at home. 8. Use sensor lights outside the home. It deters criminals by “spot lighting” their efforts to enter your home. 9. Use double key locks: locks that require a key from the outside and from the inside. 10. Repair any broken areas of your fence reducing the access of potential burglars or mischievous kids. 11. When on vacation, let your neighbor(s) know so they can keep an eye out for suspicious activity. 12. When on vacation, keep yards mowed and trimmed, burglars spend a lot of time in a neighborhood looking for their next targets. Overgrown yards are a sure sign no one’s home.

RAINTREE VILLAGE RECYCLES

Our community participates in recycling through our trash services company. Yet, it’s been brought to our attention that not all residents are aware of this opportunity. Residents may contact Royal Disposal at 713-526-1536 to obtain a recycle bin. The following items may be placed in the recycle bin and placed for pickup on trash days (Tuesdays & Fridays): • newsprint • corrugated cardboard • office and computer paper • mixed paper • plastics • magazines • telephone directories • aluminum cans and scrap The HOA needs to hear from you regarding the program. Do you recycle? If so, how often do you use the recycle bin? Would you like the option of receiving a larger bin (size of a regular trashcan)? Where would you store a recycle bin of this size? SATELLITE DISHES

It’s come to HOA’s attention that the installation of satellite dishes on some homes violates the deed restrictions. Satellites are expected to be installed out of sight of public view. The Association appreciates residents taking the time to ensure compliance.

RECREATION CARDS

Raintree Village residents will now be able to apply for a recreation card online at www.raintreevillage.com, through the community website. Our new application can be found in eforms. We will still accept mail and faxed applications which can be found in the documents section of our website.

We encourage you to visit our community website. The website includes a link to review current crime statistics for our community (www.crimereports. org) and pictures of Yard of the Month winners. As a fellow resident, you’ll have access to critical information regarding the HOA budget and annual meeting minutes. The aforementioned information can only be accessed by establishing a log-on user name and password. A request for an email address during the initial signup process will enable residents to receive alerts of upcoming events or critical notices. TRASH PICKUP SERVICES

Royal Waste Management encourages residents to call in complaints regarding trash pickup. The crews are participating in a competition whereby the best crew receives a cash bonus at yearend. All complaints are taken seriously and posted internally for all crews to view. Additionally, the crew suffers deductions for each complaint. If you have a complaint regarding the trash service, contact Charles Gregory (Operations Manager) at 713-526-1536. Let’s be mindful that as residents, we must do our part by placing waste in trash bags. If you can’t lift the bag or trash receptacle it’s too full. You should consider breaking up your trash into more bags. We encourage you to remove all trash receptacles from curbside before you retire in the evenings. Additionally, the crew cannot pickup paint and other hazardous materials. You must take such items either to a Harris County or City of Houston hazardous waste dumpsite.

HARRIS COUNTY LEASH LAW

Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal. Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat, nor to allow any dog or cat to become a stray.” Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances: 1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing the dog or cat in question 2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle 3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access to sidewalk or street.” While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained. Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet. The Board of Directors feels it serves you best when the Board meetings are conducted in an orderly manner. The HOA Board Meetings are held to conduct Association business. Your cooperation in this regard is requested. Parliamentary Procedure is followed at this Meeting. There are two sessions at the HOA Board Meetings, an open session when members may be present and an executive session when no members are permitted. Board Meeting will begin with the open session at 7:00 PM until 7:15 PM when that time slot has been filled, members must wait until the next month’s meeting to be placed on the agenda. BOARD APPROVES CONCEPTUAL DESIGN FOR PROPOSED SECOND STADIUM

During its regular July meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved the conceptual design for the proposed second stadium. The stadium project is one of three projects being considered for the District’s Student Activities Facilities referendum this fall. Members of the community, as well as Katy ISD end users and support staff attended a two-day design workshop held on June 26th - 27th and developed the conceptual design presented at the July 15th Board Work Study meeting. The second stadium would support student growth and success with additional athletic and fine arts support facilities at the secondary level within the District. PBK Architects were deemed best qualified for the stadium project, having successfully completed numerous stadium projects across the state, including multiple projects at the Rhodes stadium complex. Two other architectural firms have been selected for the STEM Center and Agricultural Sciences Center that are also components of the Student Activities Facility Proposal. During its regular July Board Meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees named David Kendler as the new Area 3 Assistant Superintendent. Kendler is currently the principal at Taylor High School. David Kendler began his educational career in 1986 as a high school basketball coach at West Mesa High School. His experience includes serving as principal at Paul Revere High School and Sharpstown High School in Houston ISD. He has been in his current role as principal of Taylor High School since 2007. Kendler holds a bachelor’s degree in

kinesiology and physical education from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of New Mexico. Katy Independent School District announced its policy for providing free and reduced price meals for children eligible under the federal income guidelines for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program. A copy of the policy may be viewed at www.squaremeals.com. Children living in households with incomes at or below the federally approved levels, based on household size, may be eligible for free or reduced price school meals. Transfer students approved for the program from another school district may either complete a Katy ISD application or provide documentation of their eligibility status. Foster children who are the legal responsibility of a welfare agency or court may also be eligible for benefits regardless of the income of the household with whom they reside. The Nutrition and Food Service Department encourages parents in all eligible households to complete an online application prior to the start of school. The online application can be found at the district website at www.katyisd.org. A Free and Reduced meal application form and an information letter was also distributed in the student’s first day packet. A paper application will not need to be completed if you submitted the application online. If your child was on the program at the end of the previous school year, they were eligible for the same benefit for the first 30 operating days of the new school year or until a new application is processed. A new application is required each school year. The Nutrition and Food Service Department is located at 5364 Franz Rd, Katy, TX 77493. Staff is available Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 2:30 PM to assist parents in completing the application. Bring the names of all members of the household and their Gross Monthly Income. For any questions, call the Katy ISD Nutrition Department office at 281-396-6240. Applications are available online, at any district school and at the food service office. Applications may be submitted any time during the school year starting in August 2013. The information households provide on the application will be used for the purpose of determining meal eligibility. Application information may be verified by school officials at any time during the school year.

KATY YOUTH BASKETBALL ANNOUNCES FALL AND WINTER LEAGUE REGISTRATION

Katy Youth Basketball is launching the 28th season of Youth Basketball for boys and girls. Two leagues are being formed this year, a Fall 3-on-3 league and the traditional Winter League. Boys and girls in 1st through 8th grade zoned to the Katy Independent School District are invited to participate. Players are placed on teams by grade. Registration for the fourth season Fall 3-on-3 League is currently underway online at www.kybb.org. KYB’s Winter League registration is Saturdays, September 14th and September 21st, from 9 AM to 3 PM at McMeans Jr. High. The Winter League has walk-up registration only. Practices will begin in November and games are played January and February, 2014. Katy Youth Basketball depends on volunteers for its success. KATY GIRL SCOUTS FROM TROOP 17259 EARN SILVER AWARD

In May, Girl Scouts Anusri Shah, Rebecca Clark and Veronica Miko earned the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn, the Silver award. The trio of 7th graders accrued more than 60 hours supporting Katy’s Krause Center with various projects and events. They organized and led an Art Workshop for younger Girl Scouts, culminating in a large canvas to be displayed at the Krause Center. Using their creative energies, the Cadettes designed inspirational posters and assembled fleece pillows for the residents there. They also hosted a flip-flop decorating workshop at the Krause Center with more than 40 residents. Each of these girls is continuing on with Girl Scouting and plans to earn the highest honor, the Gold Award.

An anticipated 400 runners and walkers of all ages will run the streets around the Villagio dressed as their favorite superhero to raise money for Keep Kids Connected, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing netbook computers to sick children in an effort to keep them connected to friends and family while undergoing treatment. It’s that time once more when the members of the Katy, TX based Bayou Belles Charity Service Organization, Inc. are tirelessly working to organize our Fourth Annual Charity Gala scheduled for October 12, 2013.
