 MEETINGS
The Falcon Ranch HOA Board monthly meetings are held at The Club at Falcon Point on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The Club at Falcon Point is located at 24503 Falcon Point Drive, Katy, TX. Regular meetings begin at 6:30 PM and residents are welcome to observe. If you would like to address the Board, please call the PMG office at 713-329-7100 to be placed on the agenda. The Board - which is made up of solely Falcon Ranch homeowners - wants to hear resident concerns, but due to time constraints, open-session discussions must be limited. If you plan to attend, please call the PMG office or check the website (www.falconranchhoa.com) to confirm meeting location or for more details.

PRINCIPAL MANAGEMENT GROUP CAN ASSIST HOMEOWNERS
Do you have a question you need answered or a comment you would like to make regarding our community? If so, please contact the Principal Management Group at 713-329-7100 or email your questions or comments to them at board@ Happy falconranchhoa.com. Fall Y’all! The Principal Management Group will direct inquiries to the proper authorities and every effort will be made to respond to homeowners as quickly as possible.

COMMUNICATING WITH PMG If your mailing address changes, please notify PMG at 713-329-7100 immediately. All correspondence from the property management company is sent to the resident’s mailing address on file. The mailing address does not change unless residents contact PMG to update their records. This is especially important to have updated before annual assessments are mailed in November.

WANTING TO MAKE AN EXTERIOR IMPROVEMENT TO YOUR HOME? Many new homeowners like to improve on the new home they purchase by adding a swimming pool, storage shed or other modification. If you want to make an exterior change to your home, please fill out the application in this newsletter (pg. 38) and send it to the address on the application. The Association has a committee that reviews these applications and the committee has 30 days to respond. If you have questions, please contact the PGM office at 713-329-7100.

Please help keep our roads safe by not parking on the streets in our neighborhoods. Some of our roads are very busy throughout the day and evening, yet they are difficult to drive when cars parked on the road reduce them to one-lane streets. In the case of emergencies, fire trucks and ambulances need to be able to maneuver through the neighborhood quickly. Residents can help by parking in garages and driveways.

PARKING IN THE STREETS PROHIBITED

The Board is constantly receiving complaints from residents regarding other residents parking in the street. To quote our deed restrictions, which everyone was required to sign when they agreed to live in our community: “Overnight parking of any vehicles in the street is prohibited. Owners or occupants of lots may seek a temporary variance from this restriction for their guests: however, any such request for a variance must receive the prior written approval of the Board.” This is Article VII section D titled Parking and Prohibited Vehicles.

RECYCLE YARD WASTE

Residents of Falcon Ranch could benefit the community, as well as their own lawns and pocketbooks, with one simple change in lawn maintenance. If you or your lawn service currently bag grass clippings, simply leaving the clippings to work down into the lawn will make a huge difference in the amount of waste our community puts into the landfill each year. It will also help conserve water,

Moreover, it is estimated that lawns that are naturally fertilized with grass clippings require 25% less fertilizer - resulting in even more savings to you! Grass clippings and finely chopped leaves add vital nutrients and organic matter to the lawn, thus improving the health of the lawn. It isn’t necessary to use a mulching mower; just mow one inch when grass reaches four inches tall. The clippings won’t be noticed and will break down within a week.

PET PEEVES

Do your duty as a pet owner! When you take your dog for a walk around the community or to the park, please be courteous to the surrounding neighbors and pick up behind your pet and keep unwanted dog waste from becoming a threat and a nuisance to the safety and enjoyment for all members of the community.

GARDENING TIPS FOR OCTOBER

• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose. • Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted

now. Woody plants concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart they can get before summer, the better. • October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies. • Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather. Control with Daconil. • If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead, weak and overcrowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60 degrees. • Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better. • Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations. • Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two applications are usually needed, even if done this early. • For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

YES - you can have your Halloween candy and eat it, too! When you’re about to gobble you’re little goblin’s treats, here is a list of some healthier, lower fat, sodium and sugar options of this Hallmark holiday goodness: • Reese’s Peanut Butter cups or Snickers? Snickers • Skittles or peanut M & M’s? peanut M & M’s • Twix or Kit Kat? KIT KAT • Tootsie Roll or Candy Corn? BOTH! Vegetarians choose Tootsie Roll, as Candy Corn has gelatin, which is an animal by product. • Butterfinger or York Peppermint Pattie? Butterfinger • Starburst or Jelly Rancher? Jelly Rancher • Smarties or Sweetarts? Smarties • Milky Way or Pay day? Milky Way • Almond Joy or Mounds? BOTH

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS Keep these helpful tips in mind while enjoying your spook-tacular evening! TRICK-OR-TREATERS • • • •

Carry a flashlight. Walk, don’t run and stay on sidewalks. Obey traffic signals. Stay in familiar neighborhoods and don’t cut across yards or driveways. • Make sure costumes don’t drag on the ground. • Avoid wearing masks while walking from house to house. • Wear clothing with reflective markings or tape.

• Approach only houses that are lit. PARENTS • Make your child eat dinner before setting out. • Young children of any age should be accompanied by an adult. • If you buy a costume, look for one made of flame-retardant material. • You should know where your kids are going. • Tell children to bring the candy home to be inspected before consuming anything. • Look at the wrapping carefully and toss out anything that looks suspect.

HOMEOWNERS • Make sure your yard is clear of things like hoses, dog leashes and flower pots that can trip the young ones. • Battery powered jack o lantern candles are preferable to a real flame. • If you do use candles, place the pumpkin well away from where trick-or-treaters will be walking or standing. • Make sure paper or cloth yard decorations won’t be blown into a flaming candle.

KATY ISD BOARD CALLS FOR NOVEMBER BOND ELECTION During the August Board work study meeting, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees accepted a bond referendum recommendation by the Student Activity Facilities (SAF) Bond Committee and called for a Nov. 5th Bond election. It is projected that there will be no tax rate increase from the current rate of $.40 with the $99 million authorization. The authorization of the bond referendum by voters would fund the building of three new Student Activity Facilities:

Agricultural Sciences Center - $25 million The District has outgrown the current L.D. Robinson Pavilion and room for growth or expanded instructional opportunities is limited. Developing an Agricultural Sciences Center at the current Gerald D. Young facility on Katy-Hockley Road will address student safety and convenience; reduce animal safety risk caused by travel; address the negative impact on Katy HS and Leonard Merrell Center operations and allow for strategic investment in a long-term solution. STEM Project Center - $4.5 million The STEM Project Center will provide additional classroom and project space for students engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses and activities. It will provide increased space for students to conduct largescale experiments such as robotics and would lend itself to a variety of engineering projects such as boats, catapults and chip manufacturing. Physics teachers would also have the ability to video a large-scale demonstration at the S.T.E.M. Center while students are viewing from their classroom.

14,000 Seat Stadium - $69.5 million A second stadium will address scheduling issues that will become increasingly difficult as future high schools are opened. Six Katy ISD high schools currently participate in varsity football, soccer and marching contests at Rhodes Stadium. With the opening of Tompkins High School, Katy ISD will schedule seven varsity football teams into Rhodes Stadium beginning in August of 2014. Scheduling seven schools in Rhodes Stadium will create a challenge for the District to comply with the U.I.L. 5-day rule.

If you’ve ever thought about being someone’s sweetheart, Katy ISD invites you to watch “Hey VO!” (http://vimeo. com/72830951) - the district’s new invitation to volunteers. Starring Cinco Ranch High School Choir Director David Lee and choreographed by Taylor Drill Team Coach Darby Boyd, the film features dancers and singers from all seven Katy ISD high schools and a cameo by Superintendent Alton Frailey. This cinematic call to action is a reminder that volunteering is fun and that every Katy ISD campus needs and welcomes volunteers. Last year’s volunteer video, “Call Us Maybe,” won the prestigious Crystal Award from the Texas Schools Public Relations Association. During the 2012 - 2013 school year, more than 15,000 parent and community volunteers donated almost 782,000 hours to the children of Katy ISD. That’s the equivalent of 376 fulltime staff members! For more information on the volunteer opportunities Katy ISD has to offer, visit www.katyisd.org. Partners in Education is the Katy ISD department that brings the community into the classroom.

“The Southland Conference is again very pleased to bring our marquee Basketball Tournament to Katy and the Merrell Center,” said Tom Burnett, commissioner of the Southland Conference. “We’ve had a successful run over the last six years in Katy and the seventh tournament at the Merrell Center should be even more exciting for the teams and fans!” The Conference provides an opportunity for Katy ISD students to participate in a variety of volunteer capacities such as ball boys/girls and student trainers. Students can also earn hours for the National Honor Society. “This event is a great opportunity for Katy ISD students to participate in a major collegiate sporting event. The Southland Conference puts on a first class event and we’re thrilled to have them back to the Katy area,” said Ben Rolens, general manager of the Merrell Center.

BECOME A TUTOR-UNDERSTAND OUR STUDENT’S LIFELINES Become an essential part of a student’s life by signing up to be a tutor for the Literacy Council! The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County holds tutor training every other month. After 12 hours of training, outstanding volunteers are equipped to teach Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adults. The trainings prepare tutors to organize and compile lesson plans, learn about various tutoring techniques, understand the purpose of the Literacy Council and much more. Tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor do they need formal teaching experience. We offer many locations for tutoring throughout the area, including locations in Katy. Tutoring sessions are offered during the day and at night. If you are interested in impacting someone’s life by being their tutor, please contact the Literacy Council at 281240-8181 or visit the website at www.ftbendliteracy.org. RUOK PROGRAM Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computergenerated call intended for senior citizens (over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily unsubscribe and re-subscribe when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back 3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for citizens of their community. To request more information or to enroll in this free and very beneficial program, please call the Sheriff’s Dept. at 281-341-4704.

PLEASE NOTE - PETS ON LEASHES It is the law in Fort Bend County that all pets must be vaccinated for rabies, registered and restrained. All animals, when outside of an owner’s means of restraint (i.e., in a fenced back yard), must be on a leash. For the safety of all residents, please use all precautions with your pets and keep them on leashes when walking pets in the community EVEN IF YOU FEEL YOUR PET IS HARMLESS. If you see ANY animal roaming freely in the neighborhood, immediately call Animal Control at 281-342-1512. Even if you recognize the animal, be very careful approaching it, as you do not know how it will react; if you can safely retrieve the animal, then call the owner. Otherwise, Animal Control is your best and safest option.

FORT BEND COUNTY “LEASH LAW” Animal control authorities are permitted to enter your Property to patrol and remove pets. Pets must be registered, licensed and inoculated as required by law. As a dog owner, you are responsible for the control of your dog. If your dog is one that ‘makes objectionable noise,’ you must make every effort to respect your Neighbor’s right to their ‘peace and quiet.’

The Pumpkin Patch at First United Methodist Church In the Heart of Katy - 5601 5th Street Choose from Pumpkins of all Sizes and Enjoy Great Family Photo Opportunities

Family Night in the Patch Friday, October 25th 6-8 PM FREE Games, Food and Fun!!!

When your dog is not in your yard, it is imperative that you keep your dog on a leash at all times. While your dog is friendly to you and your family, imagine the consequences if it were to harm someone while it was ‘roaming free.’ Please respect other resident’s right to walk the common area ground without fear of attack from an unleashed dog. Laws are written to ensure that owned animals are confined to their property or kept on a leash to free a community of unrestrained and free-roaming animals. Although most dog bites occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or free-roaming dogs do pose a substantial threat to the public. In addition, unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by rabies infected wildlife. Enforcement of restraint laws is essential in enhancing the animal control program’s efforts to reduce the risk of rabies in our community. LICENSING OF DOGS AND CATS The primary benefit of licensing animals is identification, should that animal become lost. Licensing also: • Ensures that rabies vaccination are current. • Allows for quick identification in case of a bite incident. • Provides revenue to offset the administration costs of the animal control program. VACCINATION Rabies vaccinations are a prerequisite for licensing dogs and cats because they are an important control measure for the public health threat of rabies. In addition to protecting pets, rabies vaccinations provide a barrier between infected wild animals and humans.

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)

Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle! We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday morning from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Treemont Retirement Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner. Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass. We have been performing in the Houston area for over 35 years. We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props, narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year includes songs from the 1920’s, as well as a Spiritual Medley that will start your toes tapping. Come visit any Friday. We would love to see you and if you decide to join us, we would be delighted. For more information, please call Pat at 281-497-4904 or visit our website, www. Decibelles.org.

center, an expanded student center and a new rehearsal space

for the church’s choirs and orchestra. Ground was broken for this building project on April 14th.

In addition, the funds will allow for renovations to the sanctuary, nursery and welcome center. Construction is projected to be finished in early 2014. Dr. Pat Sparks joined St. Peter’s as the new senior pastor at the same time the construction was beginning. “On my first Sunday after I was appointed as St. Peter’s pastor, we had our groundbreaking service,” he said. “Now as I look outside of our office windows, the construction is really ramping up. It is exciting to see the walls on the new children’s worship building going up. I look forward to being a part of what God will be doing in the lives of the people who will worship, learn and play in these new facilities.” Mike Eastland, chairman of the Building Committee, said the building program will expand the vital children’s ministry area at St. Peter’s. “We will reach more children with our new children’s worship facility and the centrally located, enhanced nursery space will better serve families in both our contemporary and traditional services.” The new rehearsal space will allow the various choirs, ensembles and orchestra to assemble comfortably as they prepare for worship on Sunday mornings and also will provide storage areas for the musicians’ equipment. “The Music Department is grateful to the people of St. Peter’s who appreciate and support our music ministry,” said David Galasso, director of music ministries. “The financial support that will make this expansion possible is an expression of appreciation that inspires us to work even harder as we offer our musical gifts to God,” he said.
